  1. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Oakland made a 4 yr 48 mil offer for Furcal - so I dont think they have ANY use for Crosby Supposedly this was a false report.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) I don't quite understand how Jenks is a better bet than Fuentes. Fuentes has been rock solid the past 4 seasons in Colorado. Fuentes was demoted from the closer's role in Colorado. I wouldn't say he was rock solid.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) Pedroia winning is a joke. Why is that?
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) We need to get a lead off hitter. I'm not sure who. I'm still a big Brian Roberts fan.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) You're forgetting 1 thing. The AL has good hitters. Yes, that's what I was getting at.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) A pretty good starting pitcher. Gotta think KW would just love to trump the Cubs on acquiring Peavy. Sure KW would love that, but JP won't want to come here.
  7. This kid has been playing pro ball for Cuba since the age of 15, why are we so sure he can't step in right away in the bigs?
  8. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Well, was anyone right on Floyd? Tough to see this one coming. Even within the Sox organization, I doubt many (if any) believed he'd win 17 games. There were a lot of people on this site bashing him last year. They didn't even want him occupying the 5th spot in the rotation because "he's got a career 7.00+ ERA". Young players often progress with experience. The kid was drafted 4th overall for a reason - he's got the talent.
  9. I heard this morning that he had arthroscopic knee surgery.
  10. I have my accounts with Scottrade. $7 per trade, and no other fees at all. Margin rates are very competitive as well. Essentially margin is borrowing against the equity in your account to buy more stock (a very risky thing to do in this current market). You need a margin account also if you want to short stocks. I'm very happy with Scottrade.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Which is all you can ask, no? I'm certainly not asking him to go get balls over at 3B or 2b( but hey, if you wanted to know, he's tops in the AL at getting balls out of his zone as well). He plays his position better than anyone in the AL. Agreed. OC makes some fantastic plays at SS. I don't know what games some of the people on here were watching all season, but his defense is about as good as you're going to see.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I have class from 6-9 tonight. Goddammit. I can't miss it either. In 2005, my business strategy instructor at UIC let me reschedule my midterm so that I could go to Game 1 against the BoSox. It pays to have Sox fans as your teachers.
  13. I think it's fitting that our only run has come on a double play.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Last pitch we'll see Boone throw with the Sox? Not if we're down 7-1 in the 7th tomorrow night.
  15. I predict we take one game. I don't get the defeatist attitude the Sox have going into Minne, but when they aren't confident in themselves, it's tough for me to have confidence in them.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) I wonder how many years KW can ride the 2005 wave? He may have a few issues on his plate this offseason. You do know the Sox have been in first place for just about the entire season, and have a 2.5 game lead with a week to go right? The guy who brought front-runners for league MVP, and the ROY, (not to mention Floyd and Danks) should be on the hot seat huh?
  17. QUOTE (SoxSider @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) ???????? Go get 'em...Lefty???
  18. FWIW Joe Cowley has said on several occasions that the Sox will pursue Chone Figgins in a trade this offseason to play 3B for next year's team. It looks like there's just no confidence in Josh at this point.
  19. Can we can get Rooney back in the radio booth?
  20. The weather reports don't look too good for tonight, tomorrow, or Sunday. We only have one off day the rest of the season, so you know they're going to do all they can to get the games in.
  21. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) no comment I have a comment: Lance Broadway isn't a good pitcher - not even in AAA. We're a complete mess right now.
  22. These guys are saying possibly 2-3 weeks. Let's hope he's a quick healer.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) I like your optimisim, and you may be right, but... this pitching staff is not as good as the 2005 one was. With Linebrink back, the bullpen may be close to as good. But the starting staff isn't, and with Danks looking tired out, its a big drop from 2005's starting 4. Also, this team doesn't have as good a defense. Let's hope the fact that this team has a better offense (which is true, even with out TCQ) than 2005's will make up the difference. The defense will be about as good if Uribe plays 3B and BA plays CF. The problem is that this team is designed to outslug, and those two haven't provided much offense. As for Danks, he does look tired and we're in no position to shut him down for a week or two. It'll be an interesting few weeks.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Frank didn't carry the team for 3/4 of a season. Very true, but guys like Dye, Alexei, and Thome had something to do with the team's success as well. The simple truth is that Swish and maybe a BA or whomever it is that's going to get CQ's at-bats needs to produce and play top notch defense.
