  1. I just found out that a friend of mine will be the home plate umpire for this game.
  2. I always thought that was BS. So you're telling me that JD would be a career .000 hitter if the short stop was dancing around out there causing some kind of distraction when the pitch was coming home? OCab was about half way to third when the pitch was being released so I'm not buying it. If JD's a professional hitter, that shouldn't bother him much, if at all.
  3. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) Well for Jose's sake should have been when Jenks comes back... He'll just have to make some new friends.
  4. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Interesting....now i am really wondering why Pablo got DFAed It was only a matter of time. The team values Wise more than Pablo, so it either happens now (yesterday) or when Jenks comes off the DL in a couple weeks.
  5. We don't need Pablo anyway since Sabbathia is no longer in the AL.
  6. Contreras Danks MB Give em Jell Havy Floyd I keep Floyd out because he can be valuable as a long reliever and he reminds me of Rex Grossman on the baseball diamond - potential greatness, and potential awfulness.
  7. We are a much stronger team defensively and much less prone to the rally killing double play with Paulie not out there.
  8. Twinkies are about to win their 8th in a row and move within 0.5 games of the Sox. At least we have a nice long homestand on the horizon.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Over/under on runs tonight and tomorrow is 3 Is it too late to take the under?
  10. The boys really flashed some leather tonight. Alexei and OC were taking hits away all night.
  11. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) i'll be there tonight! hopefully I can sneak out of work a little early.... That's not how things work in LA. You're supposed to get there late and leave early.
  12. I've warmed up to DJ. He's good at what he's there to do and that's be an analyst. I don't think it's fair to criticize his HR calls because he's not a play by play guy, although he's stuck doing play by play when Hawk's in one of his many silent stints during the game.
  13. One word sums up the situational hitting on this team: PATHETIC!
  14. Dotel seems like a bit of a head case. He's dominant when he comes in the game in a bit of a jam, and he gets shelled when he starts a fresh inning. Linebrink seems to be the complete opposite.
  15. QUOTE (Cowch @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) This is where I ALWAYS see the Cubs finding a way to win a game. Let's show them we can do it too! You said it.
  16. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I'm only 24 and it makes me feel old... I just turned 25 and I feel old and extremely unaccomplished compared to this guy. The draft has turned depressing.
  17. I'd be happy with either catcher. Posey shouldn't be around that "late" so Skipworth looks like he's the prospect I want. I just love what a good hitting catcher brings to the offense, and how a good arm behind the dish keeps runners from advancing like the base paths are a merry-go-round. Since Beckham may not project as a MLB SS, I don't like using the #8 overall pick on him. A hitter like Smoak also appears to be the real deal. This franchise needs a legit position player at a key position.
  18. I thought this thread was trying to promote Javy for Cy Young. Anyway, you have to give something to get something. We gave up a pretty good OF who is still getting better, and got a staff ace kind of pitcher in return. Both sides have to be pretty happy with the trade. At the time of the trade, we were dealing from a point of strength so I have no problem with it. Brian has the tools to be every bit as good as Chris Young.
  19. I think you'll lose your bet. Hamilton looks pretty locked in and that's a team that going to score some runs. If he stays healthy and "clean" then I don't see him slowing down much. He's a guy you want to root for too on a personal level too.
  20. Buster Posey just played all nine positions the other day against Savanna State. He pitched to two batters in the 7th inning and struck them both out. He also hit a grand slam in the game. He leads the ACC in HRs (16), RBI (66), and BA (.469). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he'll be around for the 8th pick.
  21. I hope we take a 1B in the first round of the draft.
  22. We could sure use Brian Roberts right about now.
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 2, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) anyone remember the last double we had? I'm guessing it was CQ, the guy we need to bench in favor of Jerry Owens.
  24. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) its hard to believe that Kenny Lofton is the 493rd best HR hitter of all-time. 249 HRs for Valentin surprised me.
