QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 2, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) Brennan was replaced by Nolan Sanburn just before gametime. Not sure why yet. He was actually on the very back end of our T30 midseason last year on Future Sox. He was once a highly touted prospect. He had defensive problems that forced him to move around the diamond, he's currently at 1B but still plays some 3B. His hitting was on and off. There were rumors of attitude issues, and what's really interesting is how he came to the Sox. When we interviewed him, we got a story that he hadn't told anyone else yet - basically, it wasn't that the Brewers couldn't find him as they reported. It's that Nick intentionally avoided them because he wanted to leave. So then they released him, and the Sox grabbed him. Here's our profile on him. Includes a link to that interview I mentioned. Wow, that's interesting stuff. The fact that he failed to report to Brewers camp hoping to be released rubs me the wrong way. That's such an immature act. Between that and the positive test for amphetamines, he's not the most likable prospect, but I hope he finds his way with the White Sox. Thanks again for the info, NorthSideSox.

How serious of a prospect is Nick Delmonico? I know he had been busted once for PEDs a couple years ago, but he seems to be a dangerous hitter. He is nowhere to be seen on the White Sox Top 30 Prospect list and doesn't get a whole lot of publicity. Thanks in advance for any insight on him.

Mymlbdraft.com has the White Sox drafting SS prospect Delvin Perez from the International Baseball Academy. He's 6'3" 165 and a native of Puerto Rico. Here's his prospect video:

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) It's really incredible how Hahn was able to make all these moves and not give up the draft picks. The Jackson move caps off a fascinating, yet productive offseason. Kudos to Hahn. It wasn't for lack of trying. He and the Sox made very competitive offers (according to reports) on Gordon, Cespedes, and Fowler. In Fowler's case, it was a stronger offer than the one he accepted. While I truly believe they're thrilled to retain all three top 50 picks, I think they'd have been ok with forfeiting one for the right player.

What is your favorite ballpark food?

The Irish Nachos might be 4,000 calories and shave a year off my life, but in my opinion, you can't beat them. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) What do people expect Hahn to day? As someone that wants them to add another impact bat, I was thrilled with the tweets that came out. It was very promising, as they could have easily said "heavy lifting is done, we are confident this is the group we have for ST". The LaRoche stuff was fascinating as well, as it seems he will have to earn playing time this year and if he looks lost in ST, who even knows if he makes the roster. Robin talked about LaRoche being a pro and working hard to make sure he's prepared coming into this season. He also mentioned that for whatever reason, LaRoche's numbers seem to spike every other year. Based on what I heard, Robin is confident LaRoche will contribute this year.

Mike Olt dfa'd by Cubs, claimed by White Sox
BaseballNick replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 5, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) And Olt's OPS is .521 this year. Your point is? Olt: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/oltmi01.shtml No matter how you slice it, this move makes zero sense and the Sox have nothing to gain by giving a 4A player some playing time. You are absolutely correct. In 6 games, and 15 at-bats, Olt's OPS is indeed .521. He OPS'd .823 in the minors for about 1/2 the season, missing time due to a broken wrist. Give him some time, and see if he can hit. Again, the White Sox have nothing at all to lose. -
Mike Olt dfa'd by Cubs, claimed by White Sox

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 5, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) Uhg, I do not understand this in the least bit. If Olt gets playing time then Saladino loses playing time at 3B. Not a fan of this claim at all. Cannot believe I'm going to say this but I would rather have Gillaspie back in a Sox uni. At least Gillaspie could hit a little at the major league level. What?! Conor Gillaspie's OPS was .627 this year. That's absolutely terrible no matter which way you slice it. Alexei is very likely out of the picture next year, so Saladino may shift over to SS, or if Sanchez plays SS, then Saladino can play 2B. Olt, assuming he's healthy, gives them a more powerful option at 3B. If Olt isn't cutting it at the major league level, then Matt Davidson can take a break from whiffing in Charlotte for a bit, or you just DFA Olt. The White Sox have nothing to lose. -
Bill Maher: God/Organized Religion, yes or no
BaseballNick replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
I was raised catholic and basically went through the motions of accepting it as truth because that's what church tells you, and as a kid, I didn't know any better. I questioned some things regarding the religion in HS, and had some really terrific theology teachers who told me that the things I questioned came down to my faith in the religion and divinity. When I stepped back and looked at it - essentially as an outsider for the first time instead of accepting the religion as truth or fact, that's where things fell apart for me. Simply accepting things "just because" didn't work for me. That combined with the intolerance of so many people, and the structured beliefs of a group that had found itself upon an all-forgiving figure struck me as extremely hypocritical. The main idea or concept that I took from religion is to treat people as I would want to be treated, and I've found that I live that way more devoutly than do a lot of the hardcore religious fanatics in my life. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) Zangari keeps racking up the hits and errors I didn't realize Zangari had that much trouble catching the ball. I actually thought he'd be serviceable at 1B seeing that he was a catcher in HS, but to have 14 errors in 40 games is concerning. As long as he continues to hit, they'll find a place for him somewhere.

I think Eddy Alvarez would be a great candidate to send for the player under AA. He's an exciting player, and I'd love to know what the organization has in him. Additional reps against some of the better minor league talent is exactly what he needs.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Lmao. Matt Cooper 2IP 0H 1BB 6K. What an incredible stat line from Matt Cooper's last 10 games: 13.2 IP, 3H, 1BB, 0ER, 31K.
-
Former White Sox draft pick, David Holmberg made a quality start for Cincy today. I didn't know he had been called up. 6IP, 5H, 2ER, 3BB, 4K against Pit.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) I really don't like the idea of going for a rental. We are still on the outside looking in and are working towards a longer term plan. This winning is nice, but I'd rather give up an extra prospect for Carlos Gomez or someone else who will be around vs. giving up prospects who won't even be around next year to help us (especially positional prospects). What longer term plan? Trading four players for one year of Jeff Samardzija in the offseason doesn't exactly scream long term plan.

I was really hoping to see some offense from Cleuluis Rondon. He's got a .461 OPS and just 17 BB to 48 SO in 245 ABs this year. That's pretty awful.

I haven't heard Micker Adolfo's name lately. Does anyone know what's going on with him and where he's playing?
-
Birmingham and Winston-Salem both managed just two hits each today. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot going on offensively with this program.

Tim Anderson was 2-4 with a fielding error, a throwing error, and he was caught stealing. He's game needs a whole lot of polish.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) Whoa whoa whoa! It's not a big deal going to the clubhouse. I think a top 5 pitcher in the league has the right to go to the other clubhouse and tell the young punk that he's disrespecting the game. Happens in all lines of work- old guys police the young guys. I understand it's the job of his teammates, but still, I don't see anything wrong with Sale's actions if that's along the lines of what he did. Now if he went in there and took a piss in his mitt...i dunno that's still alright I guess It is a big deal. It's not Chris Sale's job to police the game. As a matter of fact, Chris had been ejected by the men who police the game. I'm very disappointed in both Sale and Samardzija for being so selfish. You'd hope these two guys would make better decisions, but now they've likely put the White Sox in a much more difficult position with suspensions looming for both of them. Both of them need to grow up.

QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Yeah I'm a huge fan it makes it so much easier for tracking our prospects, and others of note also Anderson now 2-4 with 2SB If he goes on a tear any chance he makes AAA at the ASB and a cup in Sept? I'd think that's highly unlikely. His defense needs a whole lot of work. There's really no point in rushing him because he needs the repetitions, but it's very encouraging to see he's hitting and stealing bases.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
BaseballNick replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a whole lot of fun right now -
Tim Anderson 2-5 with a pair of singles, and he made his 3rd error for the Barons. That glove is beyond shaky. I really hope he can shore up his defense.

Tim Anderson homered for the AZL White Sox.

Per Rotoworld.com Tyler Danish: White Sox RHP prospect Danish 6 no-hit IP Tyler Danish - S - CWS - Aug. 10 - 10:02 am et White Sox right-handed pitching prospect Tyler Danish threw six no-hit innings for High-A Winston-Salem on Saturday, walking two and striking out five. Danish has not allowed a run over his last three starts, and has been ascendant since the beginning of July, holding batters to a .209/.273/.278 line while striking out 40 over 44 2/3 innings over eight starts. The 2013 second round pick won't turn 20 until mid-September, but he has been dominating a league where the average batter is nearly 23 years old. Danish has the potential to be a solid No. 3 pitcher, and could be another White Sox pitcher who climbs the organizational ladder very quickly. Here's another really nice article from MiLB.com about Danish and his recent success with the Dash.
