  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 09:35 AM)
    Now that scares me more than anything. I love a healthy ego in an athlete. I think it makes them tougher and more resilient. If he has lost that confidence, the kid could be in trouble.

    This is one of the things I actually kind of agree with Hawk about. He routinely says, "Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right either way." It's kind of a catch 22 though, because you need to have success in order to gain that much needed confidence he's talking about.

    May with a walkoff homer

    I loved his answer the other day when he was asked if power was going to be a part of his game. He replied that he's just going to run into a few if he's making solid contact, but he knows his job is to get on base and be a table setter. I think that was the perfect answer for a leadoff hitter to give to that question. Clearly, the kid has power, but all indications are that he knows his job and that he's not going to fall in love with hitting the ball over the fence.

  3. I had the #8 pick in a 12 team league, and I went against everything I believed in when I took WRs in rounds 2 (Dez Bryant) and 3 (Demaryius Thomas) because I didn't like the quality of RB left on the board when I was drafting. Now I'm a little short on stud RBs, but I feel like I have some elite talent at WR. Also, if you don't get one of the top 3-4 TEs, you're going to be stuck with garbage at that position.

    Here's my team:

    Andrew Luck - QB1

    Doug Martin - RB1

    David Wilson - RB2

    Dez Bryant - WR1

    Demaryius Thomas - WR2

    James Jones - Flex

    Brandon Pettigrew - TE

    Bench

    Daryl Richardson

    Tayvon Austin

    Lance Moore

    Ben Tate

    Bernard Pierce

    Justin Blackmon

    Alex Smith

  4. I don't understand how Micah Johnson isn't a top 10 prospect in this system. He's one of the few players who has put up solid (and in some areas, even gaudy) numbers at an age appropriate level, and even earned a promotion. In a system that has not been short on disappointment, he's been a bright spot.

  5. Jason Churchill of ESPN suggests Dunn may be a fit in TB. He says TB needs a LH run producer and Dunn has been just that lately. He also states that TB has an abundance of minor league talent which seemingly makes the two teams good trade partners. The Sox would need to pay some of the remaining money owed to Dunn to make this work. Dunn will make another $7.5mil this season and $15mil next season.

    Jacob May making his debut in Kanny. Micah Johnson finally promoted to Winstom-Salem.

    Great to see Micah Johnson get that well-deserved promotion, but I wonder what this means for DeMichele (who is not having a very good season). I wasn't thrilled with the Jacob May pick at the time, but he's shown to be a nice player in the early going.

  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 12:07 AM)
    I liked the pick initially, but I'm souring a bit. He's another raw project and I'm not sure the Sox can develop a guy like him. That said, I love everything I've read about his personality and work ethic. I have hope he can do what's necessary to improve.

    The Kannapolis assignment will test his confidence. I just hope he has a good approach at the plate and let's the skills catch up naturally.

    Like someone said above, it's best not to think of him as a shortstop long-term. If he improves leaps and bounds, great, but otherwise expect him to move at some point.

    I totally agree. His footwork and arm strength don't look like that of a guy who will be playing SS for the long haul. With professional coaching combined with him taking a ton of reps over there, he should definitely improve, but I would bet he gets moved.

    I'm Gone Throw A Slider When I Throw The First Pitch at the sox game Wednesday..??

    It's kind of funny that one of the few words he didn't capitalize is Sox, which is one that should be capitalized. Come on, Tim. That sentence made me cringe.

    That said, I hope he has a great career and I'll be rooting for him.
