  1. Being Mark Buehrle wouldn't suck. No-hitter, perfect game, World Series ring, Gold Glove, a segment of Baseball Tonight dedicated to one of your plays, oh, and a ton of cash. I think that would work for me.
  2. Peter Gammons said the Red Sox may put a claim on Manny in order to block him from going to the Rays. The Red Sox currently have a better record than the White Sox, so the White Sox would have an opportunity to claim Manny first. The problem, however, is that supposedly the White Sox' plan was to have Manny clear waivers, and then try to work out a deal. My understanding is that this would prevent a Rios-like situation where the Sox would be handed the entire contract without LAD picking up anything. I'm not so sure the White Sox would be comfortable with that.
  3. There's no question that an injury like that would affect his swing. I had something similar (obviously I can't speak to how severe Brent's is) but it was pretty brutal. Long-term, I don't see it being an issue. I would still think this hurts his trade value even though it's not a major injury for an infielder.
  4. "That one almost dehorned him right there."
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) I don't get it. Notre Dame's academic standards really aren't that amazing. I might offend some ND grads here, but they are the midwest version of USC. It is an expensive school but much easier to get into than some of the good and even decent public institutions. And there MBA program in terms of the grades/etc you need to get in is a joke. Comparing them to USC is fairly accurate (US News ranks Notre Dame #20 and USC #26) but stating that their academic standards are not amazing is off base, in my opinion. The list of schools ahead of them are pretty much the Ivy League, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Duke, and Stanford.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Our boy Mark Kotsay hitting 5th again! In Ozzie's defense, he's a better option at 5 than Ramirez, Castro, Beckham, or Garcia.
  7. In no particular order: Cano, Crawford, Ichiro, Fielder, Pujols, Mauer, and Longoria.
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) I'm also sick of looking at left handed batting Alexei And I am sick of watching a right handed batting Alexei.
  9. Rumor is Sale wants too much money. He's got a great looking swing though - I'd love to see him at #13.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) Thanks thunderbolt. Commin through in the clutch! You (or anyone) got the time the draft is gonna be? I unfortunately won't be on the computer till around 4-6 CT (and not again till about 10 pm or so), so I won't give any insight this year like in past years (or in rare cases for myself, might be a good thing to not look like an idiot in 2-5 years. ) till that time probably. It begins at 6PM Central.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) This was quite the oxymoron. My point is the organization needs talent, not projects.
  12. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) If we reach for Loux, it's no better than the Kyle McCulloch pick. This system is in dire need of talent and potential over safe signs. It's easy for us to say the pick needs to be a high upside, projectable talent, but the Sox surely can't afford to miss on a 1st rounder with the lack of depth in the organization. Safe might be the right way to go tomorrow.
  13. Mayo's latest mock draft says Barret Loux from Texas A&M. Based on what I've seen, he projected more as a late 1st to mid 2nd, but his stock has risen lately as he's had some strong outings against good talent. 11-2 2.60 ERA 104 IP 75 hits allowed 33 BB 136 Ks .197 BA against
  14. I'd like to see Morel, Viciedo, Hudson, Flowers, and Torres. I know it's early for Morel and Viciedo, but I think Morel can handle it, and selfishly, I want to see what Viciedo looks like against good pitching. Had Mitchell not gotten hurt, I'd have him on my list too.
  15. Revival by Rios Here's an encouraging article about Alex Rios and his fine start to the 2010 season. Matt Klaassen writes that Rios' production has reverted back to the mean, and that contract (once looking like an albatross) may not be so bad after all.
  16. If they go with a pitcher, then it sounds like Alex Wimmers is their guy. He's a very safe pick. Projects to go mid to late 1st round, with #3 starter kind of stuff (so he'll be on the board when the Sox pick). Low 90s fastball, nice curve, and decent change-up. He's pitched well for Ohio State this year.
  17. MyMLBDraft.com's updated mock draft has the White Sox selecting OF/RHP Bryce Brentz from Middle Tennessee State. They previously had the White Sox taking OF, Austin Wilson. Baseball Rumor Mill has this to say about Brentz.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ May 14, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) A few more stats... HBP's -1st SH (sacrifice hits) - 22nd SF (sac flies) - 27th I expected us to be higher in SH. We've only got 7 all year? Almost half the teams in baseball have 2X as many as we do. So much for small ball. And only 6 sac flies all year? Two more indications of our challenges with situational hitting this year. I suppose it makes sense to have less SH due to the high number of stolen bases. Seven still seems very low, however. Six sac flies is pathetic this far into a season.
  19. I just noticed Short only has 3BBs on the season to go along with 26Ks. If he hits .400, I can live with him not drawing many walks.
  20. This will make some of you happy. MyMLBDraft.com is a pretty informed site when it comes to the draft, and they currently have the White Sox taking Austin Wilson with the #13 pick.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:43 PM) Swish in Lf. Move Q to DH. Pierre to bench. That sounds like a great move even if we don't acquire anyone else.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:27 AM) They need someone to loosen the mood and let them have fun. They need to hit and start winning. When you win, you have fun.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) but he also didn't back up the smack he's been writing, calling Toronto a city in a third world country. Look, i think it's funny, but in the interview he backed off that stance, which is not surprising because he's a p****. He addressed that in the first two minutes of the interview. It was due to them pretty much being on lockdown because of the SARS outbreak.
