  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) 1 - Are the Sox going to take on a contract on that size right now? 2 - Would Manny agree to be a DH? 3 - Why would Boston trade him to what looks to be their main rival for a world series spot in the AL? 1-With JR you never know. He wants that World Series Ring, BADLY! 2-I would think so or at least partial DH. People say he refused to DH. I never heard of that so I can't comment on it. 3-For pitching or prospects to turn around and trade to possibly Florida for AJ Burnett.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) I think Manny will only play in the OF, he hates the DH spot. That's the problem with Manny, he's a head case. If he's forced to DH he sulks and is horrible in the lockerroom, something KW won't let happen Never heard of him complaining about being put in the DH spot. Also, you guys act like he's a cancer. Can any of you name anyone on the Red Sox who hates him or even dislikes him player wise? He seems he would fit in with Ozzie.
  3. First off, it wouldn't cost as much as you guys think considering we'd be taking on his contract. I don't know why people don't grasp that concept. Secondly, I didn't know it was a rule that Manny would have to play OF when there is a DH spot available. At last, Kenny wouldn't inquire if it wasn't possible. It's too close to the deadline to inquire about things that are very close to impossible.
  4. Cmon White Sox. Pull through dangit. Trade them BMac and Gio if need be.
  5. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) lol....yeah i've just seen the rumor of the Mets/Bosox......I don't like our chances now..... If that deal really goes down, the White Sox are screwed. Especially if it's true that the Red Sox will inquire about Ken Griffey if the deal does go down. We'd certainly have to get Wagner, maybe Burnett and Guardado as well.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) McCarthy in Philadelphia would have no chance. With his past 3 starts, let's hope they don't think that.
  7. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) I think the Huff/Baez deal fills the Sox's needs as of now...with thomas out, they need another bat....and we need a bullpen arm more than a sp... Too bad those two might be getting dealt to the Mets/BoSox. If we were to get them, we'd have to overpay unless that deal falls through.
  8. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) It sure seems like the BoSox would be giving up A LOT of talent. I mean they're already ditching Manny. There are not that many good free agents they could buy during the offseason, and they're gonna have to give a big payday to Damon. It just seems like the BoSox are shooting themselves in this deal. Then what would they do with Millar? Cameron, Millar, or Huff would have to be moved in another deal, IMO, assuming Trot Nixon comes back fully healthy. That is unless they'd have one of them riding the pine frequently. If you see this deal done, you probably see Millar and Mueller traded for Romero.
  9. Anibal Sanchez is supposed to have great stuff. I've heard he's dominated basically every level he's been on. Go to soxprospects.com
  10. I would love it, but I don't see it happening.
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) ESPNNEWS breaking report: Red Sox: Cameron, Huff Tampa Bay: boatload of prospects Mets: Manny, Baez Possibility Boston would go after Griffey then. Nevin to Texas, Park to Pads. Soriano would reject Cubs deal because he has no interest in playing LF. Indians are ready to trade Wickman & Milwood. Pirates: Lawton, Mesa, Redman TAM, SEA, CIN, PIT asking prices are coming down. We need to go after Griffey damnit. I can't stand to watch the Red Sox get super strong and us stand pat. Good pitching and defense is effective, but you still need to score runs to win and right now, I don't think we could do that. GET GRIFFEY DAMNIT!!!!! Nevin will probably reject a trade to Texas. Hopefully that's not on his list of teams.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) This might help with the Benson deal, at least I hope. It should. Usually the worry is that the pick below you ends up getting more money than your guy. Now that Benson's agent knows what Cadillac got(at least he should know), Benson's deal should get done quick unless he's greedy.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Did anyone else see this? Do you mean espnnews? Cause I was just watching sc and Stark wasn't on there. Yeah, I don't remember him saying anything about the Sox. Heck, I don't remember seeing him, but that's because I only caught the last 20 minutes of SportsCenter. BTW, as much as I love Drew Bledsoe(especially now that he's on the Cowboys) I think it's a crock that he beat out John Stockton for best homegrown talent(and I hate Stockton or any former Jazz member).
  14. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) We'll c. Because if you listened to SC they said manny was goin to the Mets and Baez and Huff to the Red Sox. Nope man. Other people heard it too. The new guy who started a thread on this even heard Baez and Manny to the Mets. People from other websites(SOSH) are also saying Manny and Baez to the Mets.
  15. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) It was both Baez and Manny to the Mets, at least that is what SC reported. Yep.
  16. On Sportscenter they just said that the Mets, Red Sox and D-Rays are taking 3 way that will send Manny and Baez to New York and Huff to Boston. Probably top prospects from both going to TB. Buster Olney has been quoted saying that this may go down tonight.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Exactly. No way Kenny takes that on. Imagine trying to move him in a deal. I think he's one of those unintentional cancers. When you could get something better for him, he just won't leave.
  18. He isn't leaving SD until he retires. Lock this thread too. It's not a possibility at all. There's more of a chance Frank Thomas comes back to play in a week.
  19. Only guy I hold onto is Jenks. Everyone is available. I mean everyone. Gio, BMac, Sweeney, Anderson, etc.
  20. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) I really dont understand the logic here. I too believe the Sox could use another bat, but this team was chugging along to the tune of baseball's best record without Frank, and it's not like he was tearing the cover off the ball(yes, he did hit for power a bit). Yes, but the playoffs. Do you honestly believe with our current lineup that the White Sox have a legit chance to win it all? I don't.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) To me, the team does not need more power, it needs somebody who can do what Frank did at his best ... make the opposing pitcher work his ass off and draw a bunch of walks in the process. They need a guy who has got a good eye at the plate more than anything. There are a few out there and KW will have to overpay. Which is exactly what he should do at this juncture. So we should try to pry Kevin Youkalis off of the Red Sox? He is the Greek God of Walks, you know.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) I disagree. Unless he was going to be able to keep that homerun pace up. Did you not notice how our offense picked up after he came back?
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) It was also a complete shutdown of our 3-4-5 guys during that stretch. How many pop ups and K's did Konerko and Thomas have that series. Our pitchers didnt pitch that bad. Our offense though shutdown for the most part. Hence where the famous term CORPSEBALL was born. With Frank out now, its time to get a good high BA stick who can give us double and drive in runs. We have enough high strikeout, high power, low BA guys who will be prone to slumps against good pitching. Lyle Overbay, LETS GET HIM NOW. Yeah, wasn't Jose Valentin the only guy who hit decent in that playoff?
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) They have been winning most of the season without Frank. This actually could be a blessing. He wasn't going to be 100% anyway, and except for the homeruns, really added nothing offensively. Now, it appears KW will be forced to add a bat. The chances are that bat would be more effective down the stretch and hopefully into the playoffs than what Frank would have been able to provide at his ankle's top condition this season. But he still basically made Paul Konerko better. Notice how when Frank was back, PK started heating up? That's because PK needs someone there. He's proven that he can't carry an offense and is one of those guys who's just good with other hitters around him. If we don't get a big bat, we're officially f***ed. With that said, KW is probably working on a deal to get a big bat here. Hopefully he doesn't drastically overpay for anything though. He probably will have to now that Levine(I'm suspecting) leaked this info that shouldn't have been leaked.
  25. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Anyone hear any specifics? We know how KW likes to keep things quiet. It must be something severe if they announced it before the deadline. Either that or Levineline leaked info he shouldn't have and KW is going to let him habe it. I agree that KW is going to let Bruce Levine have it for reporting this. I know I would since now teams are going to know he's desperate for a bat. F'n Levine. Anyway, Depending on how much the White Sox would pay of Griffey's contract, they could ask for anything between a Brandon McCarthy straight up to a Kris Honel if we were to pay all of his contract.
