  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Oontreras against the Redsox? Good lord. He s***s himself everytime you mention Fenway. He's a different pitcher now. Despite 2 really bad starts, he's still a damn good 4th starter who matches up with almost anyone else's #4. I think too many people on this board have gotten spoiled by what they got from Buehrle, Garcia, and Garland thus far that they think a whole pitching staff should pitch the same. That's not the case and is very unrealistic. I'm not saying Contreras won't get rocked, but it's not safe to assume he will either. Ask the Yankees if they would trade back for Contreras, I guarentee you they would say yeah.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) I still think the road to the WS will go through Fenway. We will have the home field advantage. But game 3.4.5 would be at Fenway. The thought of having Conteras or El Duque pitch in Fenway scares the hell out of me. Schmidt or AJ would give us a better chance to win in those games. And in the playoffs there are no throwaway games. All of them count. The first one to 4 wins moves on. With the way the playoff is scheduled, you won't have to depend on them to start. It would go Buehrle, Garcia, Garland then Buehrle again. The only time El Duque or Contreras were to start is if we're about to win the series and we are up 3-1 at one point.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 8, 2004 -> 11:22 AM) I've seriously had enough of these X-Box trade Dream Teams Not going to happen fellas. Then, when Kenny tries to do something to better the squad, we are going to hear..."This guy sucks. My idea was so much better. Typical Sox." Same old s***. That's not an Xbox trade. It would work on Xbox, but that's only because the computer is raping the actualy guy in this trade.
  4. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Garland and one of conde/duque will provide all the 4/5 we need if we acquire another ace, and both the loser of the 5 spot and McCarthy will be available in the pen. For the playoffs, we are going to need to win games when the back end of the rotation is pitching. If we have a real ace in the #3 hole, we can do a lot of damage. Oh, and for those of you (like myself) who violently reply to any post containing the word playoffs with "It's just June, we haven't won anything!", another Ace will be oh-so-helpful in keeping the rising Twinkies down. Again, they would start 2 games max in the playoffs. So the 4th and 5th starters will be available in the pen regardless.
  5. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Because this is our only chance for decades to win the World Series. You only start out 50-22 once in a lifetime. I'll be angry if Uncle Jerry blows it. I don't think too many Sox fans will disagree. And you do realize that 4th ace will only start 2 max games in the playoffs? Another ace isn't needed. It's a luxury.
  6. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) Wasn't Jeremy Reed untouchable last year? I don't remember that. It was widely speculated that he would get traded in the Garcia deal since the beginning.
  7. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) How in the hell do we plan on acquiring anybody halfway decent with that many untouchables? I agree. That's way too many untouchables. I'd say all of them are available minus Sweeney. But you know KW. Once he has his board, he sticks to it like the 10 commandments. I also would add Gio to the untouchable list with Sweeney.
  8. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) I wouldnt mind that if Burnett resigned and the "lower tier guy" was Eric Reed. He is compared to Juan Pierre with more speed right now. He just has to work more on his hitting You have a better chance of acquiring the actual Juan Pierre.
  9. Already being discussed in the major trade thread, but I would give up BMac, Shingo or Jizzcan and Everett for those two.
  10. Oh yeah, Gammons shot down the Burnett to Baltimore rumor saying it would make no sense whatsoever for Baltimore because he thought Cabrera would end up becoming the better pitcher. Anyway, I would give up BMac, Everett, and Sweeney. I would ask for Burnett and a lower tier guy.
  11. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) We could send them Podsednik. Everett?
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3720056 KW better be fooling us or start getting interested.
  13. I like the idea of trading for Burnett. The reason he's gone 200IP only once is because of that major arm injury he had when he started coming on. He has electric stuff and when he's on, no one can touch him. He'd be my first choice for a SP honestly. Second option is none other than Javier Vazquez. He's a great pitcher and is showing that he probably was tired in the 2nd half of the season last year with the Yankees. Has overpowering stuff. You could probably get away with just trading BMac and a low level prospect for him also because of his salary and Arizona having the need for lower priced guys.
  14. If they would accept Beckett in there instead of Burnett, I would do it if I'm Florida. Burnett has too electric of stuff to trade.
  15. Excuse me for being, for the lack of a better term, dumb, but what is IT?
  16. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) I agree...not a fan of the heat...although, I was in the UD, about 3 rows from the top, 1st base side and it was cool up there...no kidding. Wasn't even sweating, and I sweat a lot. It was teh first time I was glad to be sitting up there. That's the advantage of the Upper Deck(especially the back rows. You have the high winds swirling in back of you so you get a nice breeze. I am a fan of colder weather as well for the reason that the threadmaker stated.
  17. This is smart if they shut him down until after the AS break. He gets proper rest and will be there for the stretch run and probably 2 starts against the Twinkies. Smart, Smart, Smart.
  18. I thought there was always talk of him loving Seattle and that he wouldn't want to leave and abandon ship if it was his choice. That's what I remember reading somewhere and some people thought(at least Mariners' fans) thought that he would be a rental for the White Sox and come right back and sign a long term deal with Seattle.
  19. No game is meaningless in the season my friend until home field advantage is determined. This game counts just like all the rest. I'm not pissed we split with the Cubs, I'm pissed we split with a mediocre ballclub. Everyone outside of Lee and Ramirez have major flaws as hitters and we didn't exploit them. Our hitters, career wise at least, show that we should've scored many more runs than we did.

  21. It was bad out there. AJ was swinging at everything right on his wrists and anything low and in. Frank and PK both tried to tie the game once Willie got on and failed miserably. The worst part is, I even found out after the first 2 innings what Prior was throwing and when and our guys were still clueless to what was going to be thrown. That's what pissed me off the most.
  22. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) el conde and el duque are just not getting it done anymore; they've fallen back to Earth after amazing starts. For all we know, Garland will do the same before too long; I'm certainly hoping he won't, but let's assume worst-case scenario. We need 3-4 aces to both lock up the division and go deep into the playoffs. Buerhle and Garcia are passable in that role; Garland might be, but let's not count on him just We need Schmidt, badly. You have to be the most pessimistic person I've ever known. Buehrle and Garcia are passable?? Despite yesterday's debacle, Contreras is still at the top of the AL for OBA. We don't need Schmidt badly. He would be a luxury at this point, not a necessity.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) He should use his fastball more with location and less forkballs and only with 2 strikes. Basically what I was saying yesterday. Fastball and slider and power pitches until he has 2 strikes. Then a forkball low.
  24. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) who knows, maybe they pick up a star in free agency They are way over the cap. They're probably going to cut Allan Houston and save a good amount of change, but they'll still be over the cap with that. The most they could offer is the MLE and stars don't settle for MLE.
  25. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Lidge doesn't just miss bats, he misses great bats. He could blow away A-rod and Sheffield. I'd mortgage the farm for him. I think I would too. I think all Count and El Duque is perform decent enough to win every 4th or 5th day which they have done better than what most thought in ST. Playoff rotation would probably be Buehrle, Garcia, Garland. I think Count and El Duque would be excellent out of the bullpen.
