  1. Couple of things: 1)Steff, I agree with you. I see MB being more like the leader of this team, but PK is usually the one talking to anyone who listens. To me, being a leader means you're a pretty productive player every time out and that every player respects you on the team and will do as you ask. I don't see PK having that at least with Frank. 2)Hanley Ramirez is as untradeable as they're going to come in Boston. 3)Chavez won't be traded. Maybe we could trade BMac for everyday Eddie and non-roider Bret Boone
  2. Too bad Count has been plagued with bad run support. He definately should be considered for the ASG. He's pitched really nice this year. Isn't he top 5 in ERA for starting pitcher in the AL?? I also am one who can't believe people wanted Contreras in the pen to make room for BMac.
  3. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) everyday eddie please. if i recall, the sox were one of the finalists for him last year before the m's snatched him I never heard about that. He definately would be nice though.
  4. Unless Mota wanted to set up which he doesn't, it's not a good move. I'm a big fan of Mota, but I don't see him coming here. He's not significantly better than Hermy to close over him.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Where does he mention his "pull ball" philosphy? I never saw anything where he says I want guys pulling the ball? Joke attempt by Jabroni.
  6. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) That is not a good arguement. More fans in the park = more $ the club can spend on payroll. Personally, I love going to a game when I know it's going to be packed. Besides, even though they are professional and get paid for it, players want a full house as well. Do you think they get up the same for an April afternoon game against the Royals when there might be 6000 fans there vs. a packed house against the Twins, Cubs, Red Sox, Yanks? I'm not complaining about attendance, but the atmosphere in the park does affect the players. I'm the same way. I think it gives the players more energy and better energy. Why do you think the players get up more for Twins, Cubs, Yanks, Red Sox?? Probably because they know it'll be a sellout crowd and the players do draw energy from that. Gives them that extra "uump" in their swing and pitches. Just like at basketball games. If you're playing in front of a sellout crowd, it gives you more energy and it seems like you can't get tired. I love packed houses. I don't like hearing myself when cheering on a HR.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) Ask Metra.. it's got nothing to do with the Sox. Yeah, and the Metra is government owned. They lose tons of money each year, so I doubt you'll see that stop. Plus you may be able to take it to games, but you won't be able to take it back if there's extra innings or the game ends at 10:30 unless you want to run your ass over there or you have a monthly ticket. Anyway, Metra most likely won't spend their own money(the government's/taxpayers if you want to be technical about it) to put another stop. That means they would also have to play employees more for service.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) I'm just hoping that if they are waiting until Gload can play the outfield, that means that Timo will be getting his ticket to Charlotte or somewhere else. With Gload being a lefty bat and having the ability to play a corner outfield spot, what would be the point of keeping Timo? Oh yeah, Ozzie needs a fluffer in the dugout. By the way, why the hell is Gload's shoulder still sore? He has been playing for Charlotte for 2 weeks. If his shoulder is that bad, why didn't he just not play in Charlotte and rest it for those 2 weeks? Makes too much sense, therefore Ozzie won't make that move.
  9. QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) WSI DOES BLOW BALLS Yeah, I got kicked off that s***ty site for literally no reason. I wasn't given a reason why and when I tried to email Daver(who's supposed to be in charge there) the email address given didn't exist. So I said f*** it and started coming here. People here are more realistic. Also, I didn't see as much "Change the stripes(and stadium) to green" threads.
  10. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) The what are we gonna spend all of this on? Shingo = 2.525 million. Konerko = 8.75 million. Everett = 4 million. Ben davis is one million. Walker is 525,000k. Ozzie's slurrrrrrrrrping mate should be back. Thomas may or may not be back. if he does i cannot see it being for anything more than five million ( the 3.5 million buy out that he will recieve either way plus an additional 1.5). Then you add up the additional money that the sox have been upping the pay roll every year. Salary increases... garland, pierz, crede ( :headshake ). We will still have a good amount left over after buehrle, garcia, and a few others that have any significantincrease in pay go up. Ask K-Dub.
  11. QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) by the way how can u like Crede n not Ross? Both r unproven, but at least Ross can use the excuse that he hasn't had pt. For the same reason I like Jamal Crawford, both are really really cool guys. I suppose I'd like Ross if some people wouldn't overrate him so much(I blame WSI for that).
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Scott Hatteberg J.T. Snow Konerko isn't worth $9 million a year. I would just sign a cheap, slick-fielding 1st baseman that can hit for a decent average and get on base at a good clip. Both sound like Ross Gload with playing time. And I don't even like Ross.
  13. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) I'd rather let Konerko leave via free agency and spend his $9 million on someone else. I still wouldn't want to add Griffey's contract. I would too, but there aren't any better 1B out there than PK sadly. There are decent options at 3rd but nothing above and beyond Crede IMO, and none that are going to make you spend a sig amount of cash and I don't foresee the Sox adding an Armando Benitez contract for a reliever, but something like 4 or 5 mil at the most) so X that out.
  14. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) I wouldn't do either deal then. I wouldn't trade Konerko for Griffey because of his contract and I wouldn't trade Everett, Anderson, McCarthy, and Crede for Chavez. Pk is hitting worse and his contract with the money getting thrown in is no worse than PK will be getting.
  15. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Could we get Kyle Davies for Everett? That's overpaying. Braves definately would throw in John Smoltz
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Ok I'm only going to ask this once. Would you prefer to see the payroll increase next season go towards Ken Griffey Jr. or Eric Chavez? Or if we don't get Chavez, let Konerko go. Get J.T Snow to platoon with Ross Gload until Casey Rogowski or Josh Fields are ready. Use the $10 million we'd still have, to get some more good bullpen arms, an upgrade at third base, and to resign Frank and the usual upgrades etc. Chavez, but let's put it this way. Who would you rather trade? PK for Griffey or Everett, Anderson and BMac(probably also Crede) for Chavez?
  17. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Damnit! Not that I thought there was a chnce of that, just that Jake Peavy is an awesome pitcher, and he's only 23. I'd love to see him on the south side, but I know it's not going to happen. He would be a luxury, but not necessarily a need. Our pitching staff is good enough, at least starting 5 wise. Bullpen could use some help. Anyone know if Phillies need an OF? We could swap Everett for Wagner. Then again, Philly is still in it.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Ok my thoughts; 1) I give Griffey until the end of the month before he gets injured again. 2) PK's deal runs out at the end of this season. Even if we don't resign him, that's $8 million that can be spent in the off-season. Payroll will get increased by another $5 to $7 mill for next season, so that's $15 mill to spend right there. 3) We want to spend our money on players who are coming into their prime and can contribute for a number of seasons. Yes Griffey is hitting the ball well this MONTH, but you don't seriously believe that's going to happen over a 4 year period do you? 4) Willy Mo Pena and Austin Kearns are better trade ideas than Ken Griffey Jr. 5) Why would Cincinatti trade for PK when they already have Sean Casey at 1st? 6) How good is Jermaine Dye going to defence at 1st? 1)I don't see him getting a major injury again. He worked double time this off season so he could strengthen his legs to the fullest. If he does get injured again, it'll be for no more than 2 or 3 games. I don't forsee the days of him getting injured for the whole season again 2)Exactly why we could afford Griffey. There's no 1B out there who is as good as PK and that's not a good thing. That's why I proposed moving Dye to 1B(has feet quick enough for a 1B but no longer for a good defensive OF anymore and he's long so his range is naturally bigger). I don't even think there's anyone at 3B that's good enough to spend that money on. 3)Griffey hit good last month too, he had a poor April which is why his average isn't higher(at least in the .280's). He won't be hitting .320 anymore, but he might still be able to hit .300 or a more realistic .290 4)Austin Kearns is hitting a horrible .233 over the past 30 days and .225 with 6 HR and 25 RBI's. Now I'm a fan of Crede, but not many other people are. Those are Crede numbers in the OF. I don't see him being any good. I agree, Pena would be nicer to have, but chances are he isn't going to be traded for that same reason. Yes Griffey is 35 and will be done in 4 years which makes it that much easier to ease into Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney and Chris Young whenever they come up. I think he would be an excellent influence on them and could help out Brian Anderson in particular alot. 5)To get rid of Griffey's contract. Now they would be paying for a large amount(they were ready to pay for a large amount of it when they were trading him to SD) and the payroll for us will be rising next year I suspect unless we flat out fall flat on our face for the rest of the year. 6)I think he could play a decent 1B(of course work him into that spot and have him practice there, unlike they did with Timo when they just told him, he's starting there for the night). He has the tools to do so and if he could play a lick of SS, he could play 1B. Again, Long arms = nice range and he has a strong arm to turn that double play or get that ball to homeplate.
  19. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Lets just put this one behind and go win the first two and lose the third in Colorado. HELL YES!!!!
  20. Today would've been a nice day to have Wagner. Hermy would be better suited as an awesome setup man IMO. Anyway, again, it was just the Indians being better than us today.
  21. I'll take this 2 of 3. I can't really blame anyone. Indians just found ways to make plays and we didn't. They were the better team today. I could deal with that. Let's beat the Rockies now.
  22. Okay, I realistically don't see anymore heroics in this game. And Viz is coming in. Game will be busted up wide open.
  23. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) i hate these kind of games. Who would've thought it would've gone this long in a Buehrle game??
  24. Top of the 12th coming up. That just means we're closer to watching Shingo or Viz.
