  1. Anyone think that the Illini's shot for Oden and Conley just went up with Ohio State possibly facing more self-sanctions and more probabtion time as there were 9 more violations NCAA investigators found against the basketball program including money given to players?
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 17, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) That must be a walker thing. He had Olivo doing it, then cruddy and now Konerko. Actually working for Crede though. He's at least getting a hit or on base once a game if not more. PK is an automatic out. I was at the game with some of my friends. In the 8th they were chanting Paulie!!! with the rest of the crow. I said, "STFU, Paulie hasn't done jack all year and he ain't starting now. Also, whenever people start that stupid chant, he does jacks*** the rest of the way, usually a rally killing DP or strikeout. Then some of my friends kept cheering and I bet one of my friends next to me that he would end up getting an out. And he did.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) The constant strikeouts are the most disturbing trend. Watching fastballs down the middle of the plate with the game on the line for strike three is unacceptable. You seize NOT to amaze me. Hitting everything on the head.

    Marte

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 17, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) The problems with Marte can be summed up by watching his delivery. His problems started towards the end of 2003. He stopped following through on his fastball. Now if you watch he short arms it instead of bending over and following through on the pitch. When you short arm pitches(ala Cotts) the ball has a propensity to sail. You never quite get on top of the pitch and it just takes off. Thats what happens when Marte pops it. He can throw his breaking pitch over for a strike like crazy. But he gets to into that and hitters lay off of it. He then drops the velocity a bit to get a strike over and then whammo. To be successful as a reliever you must pitch ahead and stay ahead. He has the stuff, he just needs to locate it more. When he throws strike one he K's hitters at a good clip. When he gets to 2-0 and 3-0 the conga line starts. The ability to throw strike one and be aggressive is what seperates Hermy and Polite from Cotts and Marte and Shingo. Took the words right out of my mouth. For some reason now, he doesn't like to follow through on his pitches and I've noticed this also and have been saying it all year, even through his good outings. I don't know why he doesn't follow through because the ball is definately floating on him as soon as he let's it go.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) I find it sad that some of you here are more interested in attendance that what the team is doing. :headshake My argument is that Sox fans are missing what the team is doing. They could see them live and rather sit on the couch and tell their wives/girlfriends to toss them another beer.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) How many sell outs would be good enough for you...? 2 series per month.
  7. After interleague. He already said he's not going to play the field this year. Makes no sense for him to rush back for early June when most of the games are going to be interleague.
  8. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Does anyone else just keep looking at the calendar and can't wait until June so we can put some, some, of this attendance stuff to rest? Of course that series against the Drays ought to be scary during 4th of July week. Not happening. In fact, June would make it much worse. It'll show that even with the better weather, we won't sell out. Only games we'll sell out are Cubs, Yanks, Red Sox and Twins, and playoffs(if we get there). That's not alot at all. And I'm not even sure about the Red Sox series being sold out(probably close). That's pretty poor.
  9. I think we should have 32 wins. Couple of those losses hurt. We can't have that many blown games, this early in the season.
  10. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) Any word on where it's being held? I should check it out and give you guys the early word. He's going to Duke 80%-20% right now IMO. I don't think it's as much of a lock as everyone says, but I think Duke is still way in the lead. Oh, and it's Scheyer. Just out of curiousity...how many of you have seen him play? *Raises Hand*. That dope shouldn't hold a press conference. Everyone, even in Illinois, know his plans. He's going to Duke. We all know that.
  11. My solution. Bench Paul Konerko. Everett's at least getting his RBI's each game. PK gets them one game of the week in a bunch and you don't hear about him til the following week. Bench his ass and have Widger play 1st.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Just for the people in college. All the high schools, middle schools, etc. have a few weeks still. Yeah, because those kids could go take the red line or the Metra by themselves and go to the game. Not. Parents will have to take them. They didn't and the games were on a weekend. Not strong enough attendance for top 2 teams in baseball. Hammerhead, Baltimore has more than enough staying power. Chen is pitching like the prospect he was supposed to be(ala Pavano last year), Lopez is good for 15, Cabrera is a hard thrower that will win 15, Bedard will win 15, Ponson around 12. That's good enough with their offense and bullpen to get there. There's a reason why they kicked our ass the past two games. And whoever wrote that letter to Jay Mariotti about the southside being even nicer and on the uprise, you do realize that it just makes it that much worse??? He's going to come back saying, "Yeah, you even have the nicer neighborhood and can't even hang with the criminal filled Wrigley Field." You set yourself up with that one. The reason that Sammy was supposed to play against us was the reason why we had as many fans as we did. It was 3:1 for Cubs-Sox fans at the game. I know it because the 3 games I went to(purchased a ticket for Sunday's game but I hung out too late into the wee hours of Sunday morning) I saw Cub fans surrounding me and absolutely say there disgusted. Here's my challenge. When the Sox face a team, let's try to outdraw fans that aren't Sox fans at our own ballpark. Everytime on the Red Line I see half the thing filled with fans of the other team(especially against Minny) and Cub fans who have nothing better to do. The Sox depend too heavily on other fans, not their own to sell out their ballpark. That's just sad. And I'm talking about 70% of Sox fans.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 15, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Ok we might be 1st place but its still May.... Like its been said earlier, if we are still struggling to get 30,000 to a game after school is out and weather is warm and we are still a 1st place team than be worried.... until than calm down and enjoy the run. School is out and weather has been decent. I don't see Flub fans complaining. Wear a jacket. That's why they were invented. I just hope that the stadium is this empty when there are playoff tickets.

  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 15, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) Extremely dissapointing? Did you know that 128,560 paid for that four-game series, without either half-price day involved? That's anything but a dissapointing sales number for a series at US Cellular if you know the slightest bit about the attendance patterns we've had the past few seasons. The average attendance for each game was 32,140. If the Sox drew that well at every home game in a season, they'd total over 2.6 million tickets at the end of the year. That number would blow any recent yearly sales number out of the water. Yes extremely dissapointing. Possible playoff matchup. Two best teams in baseball. Not just the division or leagues, but baseball. 2.6 is bad if you are the best team in baseball. Before, we weren't close at all being at the top. We were happy being in the division race. Right now, we could get home-field advantage through the ALCS. I bet the Orioles will outdraw us. I know about the attendance patterns. There should be no reason why there is this low. Have White Sox fans sunked that low in which now there needs to be a major promotion(half price night; and dont forget there was dollar-dog thursday and fireworks on saturday) for them to head out to a game. That's not right. The side shows should be bonus, not the main attraction. Sadly most Sox fans feel the other way. For the 2 best teams in baseball, that's pathetic.
  17. Still. He brings up a good point. I hate Mariotti as much as the next guy, but in this article he praises the White Sox and basically says, we're the best team to watch in all of baseball, but yet we are at the bottom of attendance. There's a difference between simply bashing and making sense. In this article he's making perfect sense. This series should've been a sellout. Two best teams in baseball(us being the best team) off to a record start and even the mayor shows up(today at least) on a weekend and we still can't sell out any of the games. That's extremely dissapointing.
  18. Pitching was there for the most part. Dye has at least shown flashes. Paul has nothing. Crede gets on base usually now. PK, again has done nothing. He's one of those guys who got the offense on streaks instead of consistant hitting. Maybe we traded the wrong guy when we traded Carlos Lee.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ May 15, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) paulie is in some kind of mind set. jeez Yeah, a horrible one. Bench his ass fast. Give him a week off and make him think about it.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 15, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) I just dont understand why Konerko gets cheered so much when he has sucked this year. Im not saying boo him but save the cheering for another player that deserves it more like Podsenick, Iguchi, Uribe, Everett, recently Rowand... all of our pitchers. I say this all the time. They should hold on cheering Pauly because he just doesn't do it.
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 14, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Brien is no lock to be the K either, it could very easily be Jones or the UFA from MD. Thomas Jones??? Nope, sorry, Brien is the kicker. Edinger said yesterday that he doesn't even want the competition and that he fully expect to be let go.
  22. What JR is saying is speculation. E-City will be just fine and then you could go on about cracking stupid jokes about him. We'll know before it's contract time. I guarentee(I'll even ban myself from this place for a year) that Eddy Curry will be back playing basketball next year(in the NBA). You could bookmark this page if you want to.
