  1. Yeah, if Clemens is available and he's willing to play here(hypothetically speaking) and you truly believe you have a chance to win it all, it's your job as a GM and manager to get that player who you believe will put you over the top. I don't doubt KW would do it either(remember when he tried to get Larry Walker and Carlos Delgado last year??). With that said, even if Houston sucks, I think the only teams he would accept a trade to is Boston and NY. Didn't he want to play here after he left Boston??
  2. First off, I just wanted to say that if a White Sox gets popped off, some fans in here are going to look like big assholes. Secondly, Tim Kurkjan said that his K/9 wasn't even 1 prior to last year. Last year it jumped hugely he said(forgot the number). Anyway, I hope everyone on the White Sox is clean. This whole 10 games is a joke. Congress is going to step in, just wait until the start of next season.
  3. Wasn't Bartolo going to get a 4 year deal but he wanted 5??? Or was it that he wanted 4 and we wanted to give him 3??
  4. I don't think Atlanta would let him go though. Not until after the season. It seems that they rather just hold onto each player each year until the end of the year. Only time I could think of them making a big trade at midseason was Andruw Jones for Maggs which didn't happen.
  5. I have a feeling that KW would go after Nomar(if healthy and the Flubs are out of it, as we know they will be). Seems like a KW move. He likes to get name players and Nomar at SS would show(the average fans) that the Sox are forreal about going after it all. Guarentee it wouldn't cost us McCarthy either.
  6. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) I think there could be surprises. Maybe th ePhils decide to get younger if they fall out completely and perhaps the BRaves would swap a player like Furcal for a guy like Juan Uribe. That's what I was thinking. Maybe we could upgrade at SS, but only if it is a better one and not an equal calibur player.
  7. For anyone who thinks the offense is automatically heat up as the summer comes, "just because it has done for the past couple of years," just remember that this is a way different hitting lineup and alot of new faces on this team. So don't take it as an automatic heat up. If we do get pitching help, I would get Billy Wagner as an automatic closer. Hell, hopefully Houston gets so out of it that they trade Brad Lidge(living a fantasy here). I'd say there really isn't no one else that will be remotely available that I would take. I don't see Mesa as a WS closer. RF would be most logical, but you guys have to wait at least until June to determine what's going to improve and what looks like it's not.
  8. QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 2, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) actually it does matter for the NBA. losers like Kwame Brown come into the league and do nothing for 4 years, and then they begin to develop. It waters down the league And after those 4 years, they don't get that big contract if they suck. No one could possibly prove that going to college gives you a better chance at the NBA. In fact, high school has the better rate. Only busts have been Kwame and Leon Smith. Even at that, Leon Smith was just a headcase from the get go. Perfect example of college working against you. Chris Duhon. #1 rated player in his high school class by many scouts. Went to college. Had a picture perfect jump shot going in, horrible one after his senior year. First two years he was still considered to be a lottery pick, after staying in college, he was a 2nd round pick. Again, the success rate in college can't be proven to be better than the success rate of those who jump straight to the pro's from high school. And just like in college, you have your really good ones who make immediate impacts like KG, Kobe and you have others who take time to develop, Jermaine and McGrady. To say all of them don't contribute right off the bat is wrong.
  9. QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) hopefully that happens. that would be great for both the NBA and college Wouldn't really matter for the NBA. Matters greatly for college though. Anyway, right now, that issue is a real lockup for the CBA. If the max salaries were at least the same length and money as the current ones, then the player's union would probably accept it, but as of right now, they are opposed to it. Hopefully the Illini get Rush, Scheyer(doubt those two though) and Collins(I think he's realistic).
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 1, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) You don't need a whole lot of run support when you pitch shutouts.
  11. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 1, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Sorry Nite, just didnt see any posts by you in the threads I looked at. But thanks again for adding me to Crede's Crew. I might have no life but I'll be the first to admit my "research" only covered a few threads that looked meaningful. It was over 2 years ago I'm pretty sure. Can't tell you the exact threads. Lots of times they said they hated his California attitude and I didn't mind it(JG'S attitude).
  12. Also, Theo Davis already signed last week with Iowa State which shocked everyone because he didn't list them as a possible candidate.
  13. ^Heard the same thing. Also Rush is leaning heavily towards the draft, but if he does go to college, he listed the Illini as the favorites as of now. I see him going pro, but if he went to Illinois, I see them primed for a deep tournament run again.
  14. I actually went to school with Dunigan. Same class and everything. He's pretty damn big. Pretty decent basketball player too. He just needed to work on FT's.
  15. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ May 1, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) I think JG is a 20 game winner for one reason, he is in the 5 hole, he matches up against 5th starters (for the most part). Here is a list of the fifth starters in the AL: Kevin Gregg, Joe Blanton, Dave Bush, Hideo Nomo, Scott Elarton, Ryan Franklin, Bruce Chen, Pedro Astacio, Bronson Arroyo, Zach Greinke,Wilfredo Ledezma, Joe Mays, Kevin Brown I know that I'd take Garland in any game over any of those guys. If he continues to throw strikes, get the ground ball outs, and continue to limit his walks I dont see why he can't be a 20 game winner this year Go look at Blanton and Chen's numbers. I would still take JG over them, but they're not bums this year. Also, I didn't know Garland was facing the pitcher. I didn't know the White Sox were in the NL. I'm pretty sure he faces the batting order those teams have to offer.
  16. I've always been a Garland backer. You could check back to my WSI days.
  17. I'm indifferent. Don't think he won't do anything bad for this team, also don't think he would make that much of a difference. I wouldn't mind having him, but I'm not going to lead a protest to KW's office to get him either.
  18. No love for Garland. Wow. Even ESPN named him the month's best pitcher. It's good though. If no one knows about Garland, makes it even easier for him to blow teams away. I bet even if he ends up with an ERA at 2.90, he probably still won't make the All-Star game.
  19. Me too. All you have to do is trade good players for great prospects. Sometimes they won't take the deal because the age and potential of the players they are giving up and receiving. They take everything into account.
  20. The were rating staying power after the first month of baseball. He said he likes us because by far we have the best rotation out there. Our rotation has the top ERA in the game by half a run and has the most quality starts. He stated Jon Garland is our 5th starter and he's 4-0. Nice to see someone think we have a chance. Also stated that Frank Thomas will be back eventually to help our offense.
  21. Rondell sucks. Damn him. Actually he's a pretty good player when it comes to facing us.
  22. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) ehh whatever, they wont be good next year anyhow Not anymore. They looked like if they had a half decent coach next year that they would at least make the tourney. I also thought they would get someone bigger.
