  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) But what KW's OK fails to mention was that it was on the new, 2400 point SAT. Yea, you wish buddy. Some people are born natural test takers. Doesn't mean I don't get the greatest grades in schools, but line me up next to anyone for a standardized test and I will kick the s*** out of it and everyone else. I legitly got a 1530 (800 Math 730 Verbal). So screw you and your sarcasm
  2. Section 1. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles vs. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix vs. Baba O'Reilly - The Who Section 2. Street Fighting Man - The Rolling Stones vs. A Day in the Life - The Beatles
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) As did I. There's a lot of old people here like Steff and YASNY who are bright but are far too old for standardized testing. 33 on the ACT, but how does 1530 on the SAT sound? [only took each once, none of this take it till you do well bulls***]
  4. The motion picture industry I know is getting extremely serious over this. I've talked to one of my law professors who is also part of a practice in Madison (not just an academic). He tells me that one of the biggest clients they have is the motion picture assosciation (forgot what the actual acronym is). He says that there are currently over 300 cases in the greater Madison area alone, with each one settling for around $4000 with little exception!!! So if you are downloading music or movies beware, you never know who is lurking
  5. QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) Pretty soon I'm gonna start looking around as it is now my second semester of junior year in HS. I'm looking at going into business, and the only school I've thought about so far is NIU. I can probabaly get into most schools besides the highest tier, so any suggestions on some schools I should look into? See two posts above. I'm in the business school at Wisconsin, its a top ten business school. If you are looking into other schools with good business schools: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, surprisingly U of Arizona (if you are the right major), but there really isn't much of a reason to leave the big ten if you are looking for business. And to the guy who said should I apply early. As long as it is a non-binding application . . . YES!!! I can't think of a single situation in which applying early hurts you
  6. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) I think Mizzou is the best journalism school in the country along with Northwestern. That is probably journalism combined, so for broadcast others might be better. I am also trying to pick a school. So my list is: 1. Mizzou (got in + lots of $$) 1. Northwestern (will hear in mid-march) 3. Wisconsin (got in) 4. Illinois (got in, my favorite school by far for sports, too) 5. Syracuse (will hear in mid-march) 6. Indiana (got in) I want to be a sports broadcaster. Ideally, a play-by-play announcer, which I have been doing for four years in high school. But, I realize it is nearly impossible to get play-by-play jobs, so I will settle for sports talk show host or sports writer. For those reasons, Mizzou and NU are my top choices. My parents want me to choose Mizzou, wonder why? But, I will make that decision when I hear from Northwestern. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I gotta sing Wisconsin's praises. If you are a journalism major Madison has two seperate student run papers that gives almost all the journalism majors an oppurtunity to get some experience while still in college. Two of my good friends are section editors on one of the papers. If you care at all about a sports atmosphere Wisconsin is great. How many other schools have three different sports that regularly sell out. Football at Camp Randall is awesome, and the new construction they have done to it has made the place look great. Nothing in the Big Ten matches Jump Around between the third and fourth quarters. Our basketball team is good year in and year out under Bo Ryan. If we didn't lose our first 3 players off the bench to academic ineligibilty we would have won the Big Ten without even breaking a sweat (as it is now we are in 3rd only a game back controlling our own destiny). And the one thing that is amazing about WIsconsin is the hockey atmosphere. we were #1 in the country for the majority of the year until our goalie went down, but he is due back anytime now and are ready to make a run into the frozen four. If you didn't get a chance to watch 50,000 people at Lambeau for the Wisc v. OSU hockey game this weekend you missed out. That was an incredible experience, and when we are at home we regularly sell out the Kohl Center (basically a mini-United Center for our basketball/hockey teams) unless we are playing s*** teams like Michigan Tech. On top of all that the bar scene is great and they just started a smoking ban in the bars which means if you are lazy doing laundry you can get away wearing the same jeans for a while because they dont reak of smoke. State street is amazing and there are hippies around every corner, and you are located in a pretty big city. Bands are always coming through Madison, especially with the new Overture Center just opened down state street. I have been here for 3 years and have seen Dark Star Orchestra, Jethero Tull, Yonder Mountain String Orchestra, Robert Randolph, Herbie Hancock, O.A.R., Dave Matthews, Eagles, Stones, Ben Harper, and Jurassic 5. All in 3 years! If you haven't visited Madison it is definately worth the trip. I visited it for the first time on the coldest day of the winter and still chose to come. Oh yea . . . GO BADGERS!!!
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) Thats cool. When I was going around last summer, I put them all together on one big trip since most of them were in the midwest and I live in Jersey. That way, I wouldn't have to be driving back and forth between here and the midwest Before looking at the schools, my list was something like this: 1. University of Illinois: Chicago 2. Pittsburgh University 3. Michigan State 4. University of Minnesota 5. random other schools which I didn't visit (Kent State, Penn State, some others) After looking at the schools, I realized how much I hated Michigan State, and Pittsburgh seemed rather dull, although was still nice. I loved Chicago, which was expected, and I fell in love with Minnesota's college atmosphere and campus. I ended up applying to one school (Minnesota), which isn't smart, in September, and was accepted by mid-October. I was done with the college process before most of the people I knew even submitted their applications (I suggest that anyone applying to colleges does it early, its great). I had my housing application done and accepted by the end of November, and haven't had to worry about anything since then. I have an Open House on March 4th, and past that, I don't think there's anything else until late August when I move in. So yea, thats basically my entire college story Minnesota, now theres a mistake! Or should that not be in green? GO BADGERS!!!
  8. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) That the English popularized American blues music by going electric and putting white faces behind it. Damn straight, give me Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, or Stevie Ray any day of the week. American Blues is where it is at, that still is my favorite music. For any blues fans out there B.B. King just put out a new album (in the last 6 months) that is all collaborative work, some of the songs seem like he sold out a little, but there are some quality tracks on it. I think it is called 80? I think it was released for his 80th birthday
  9. QUOTE(Yoda @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Section 1. White Room - Cream vs. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan vs. Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix vs. When the Levee Breaks- Led Zeppelin Section 2. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen vs. Baba O'Reilly - The Who Pinball Wizard - The Who vs. Street Fighting Man - The Rolling Stones A Day in the Life - The Beatles vs. Dream On - Aerosmith *This red match has two songs that were eliminated from Round 2. They are here because if I don’t have them, there will only be a conclusion of 5 winners, an odd number, so with this additional match, it will be even.
  10. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) I dont break the f***in rules.. So what, I argue with people a lot.. is that a crime? I dont come out and call you a retard, I say your post or whatever you said is retarded. This board needs some thicker skin.. people take way to much to heart. I dont hate you Rowand44, you probably think I do because of one post I don't know how you guys feel, but to me retard is just one of those words you don't say. You can go around saying f***, s***, ass, b****, whatever disparaging words you want to use. But to use the word retard truly shows what kind of person you are, and not in a good way. Its just as bad if not worse than any racist remark you can make. That's just my thoughts on that, but that is one of those words that I truly wish that no one in their right mind even thought about using. If you think you know so much more than most people on this board than show your intelligence not your ego. Why would anyone care what you say when you come across as an arrogant know-it-all who ususally doesn't bother to back up what he has to say because we are viewed as below you.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Right after that Buehrle performance or was it right b4 Garland had a perfect game through like 5-6 innings I think b4 he gave up a couple of hits and runs. The game before, it was a friday night. Garland was untouchable until the 7th where he got into a little bit of a funk. I believe Hermanson came into that game in some trouble to save it too, sweet game. The next day was the 99 minute game, I left Chicago right before the game and got to Madison right after it was over, perfect listening for a 2 hour car ride back to school. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, Garland's back to back 3 (or 4?) hit shutouts early in the season. If that wasn't impressive I don't know what is.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) Borchard is at least a switch hitter. With all his power from the left side
  13. We have no right handed power off the bench. That is my only real concern about the bench. Other than that its great and versatile, I love how many multi-position players we have.
  14. Alright, quick little piece of grammar for all you guys: Quite, adv. - Actually, to a degree, to the greatest extent Quiet, adj. or v. - Making little or no noise English 101 (or 3rd grade spelling)
  15. Seattle did a whole lot more than simply "throw 2, 3, or 4 guys at Smith." They were able to do something that the Bears were unable to do, get to the QB. Seattle showed a great ability to pressure Delhomme without needing to send a blitz. Their front four was able to constantly collapse the pocket and reduce throwing lanes and get to Delhomme (very similar to what the Bears did the first time they played the Panthers and held them to 3 points). However, I'm not disagreeing that Rivera and Smith should have adjusted their gameplan. I believe that if they had at least tried to bump Smith with a linebacker (most likely Hunter?) and release him to a safety and corner the Bears would not have given up those big plays that killed them so much. If the defense made those adjustments I firmly believe that the game last week would have come down to whoever scored last. Btw, how in the hell did Ed "let me emphatically show a first down in order to show off my arms" Hochuli pick up the flag on that Smith punt return. I just don't get that one.
  16. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) True. He struggled in Atlanta but he did a little better in the set up role after Reitsma and then Farnsworth became the closers. But look at how many closers struggled last year (Looper, Foulke, etc.) and there will be more this year (Jenks?) so it doesn't hurt to have a bullpen of set-up men that also have closed in the past instead of trying to break someone into the role. Also, Politte struggled after showing promise as a closer in Toronto and has been a solid set-up man. I think Kolb is definitely worth a look. Two syllables for you Bor ASS Enough Said
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Yeah, that trade was a steal. Who hear can say that they own a Miguel Olivo jersey? This guy It finally arrived after custom ordering it 2 weeks before he got traded
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) Looks like Jeff Davanon is about to sign with the Dbacks. They lost out on Lofton and turned their attention to Davanon. Damn, he would have been a great 4th OFer
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) Reportedly 1 year for 2 mil... With the ability to earn 3 more in incentives Octavio Dotel (Rotoworld)
  20. So who wants to make a prediction as to when Garland is traded? When do cases go to arbitration? My guess is that he will be traded before he actually gets his salary resolved in arbitration.
  21. Do they do the ring ceremony opening day? Or the pennant opening day and the ring ceremony the second game?
  22. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) Balta, I feel your pain. I was pretty pissed off when I saw that as well. Assholes. Dish Network does the same thing. I don't understand why non-live games are blacked out. However, for Bulls and Sox game in season, if they go past their scheduled 2 hours and 3 hours respectively the black out no longer remains. So if its a good game in OT or extras you can catch the end of the game on TV which is pretty sweet.
  23. Even worse is that its going to follow directly after the World Cup. THe World Cup is such a well done international tournament, and than with the WBC following on its heels, its just going to make that look worse. Even though America isnt a soccer nation the World Cup still draws considerable interest here. Because of that I think the WBC will just pale in comparison.
  24. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) When it is said that Garland WILL test free agency next year and we should trade him for a prospect I get a bit angry. First of all we don't know if the Sox can't make him a good offer to stay, but on the other hand here is the organization that made him a pitcher. It made him a winner and one can assume from the way things are sounding that there is no loyalty from Garland to stay. The sad thing about this game is it all boils down to money and that it doesn't matter which side is bringing it up. I wish we had the simpler days of the game back. When players were owned by the team and basically indentured servants? Why the hell would you show loyalty to your team if its the difference between 3/30 or 6/70? Thats 40 MILLION more guaranteed money. Loyalty is nice and all, but for that much more guaranteed money I'd go play for the Cubs. I'm assuming on the 6/70 contract, but I figure at worst he'd get Burnett money (5/55 but probably more because of being able to eat innings, health, winning record, etc.)
