  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) LOL, the 10 post limit on WorldXing was constricting my brain flow. The table talk on this site is really fun to me. Alot more varying opinions. More hard baseball talk ..... obviously because there are alot more posters.
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) I dont think Kenny waits until the deadline to pull the trigger on this deal. Not his style He definitely likes to get a jump on things like this. After reading thru all these posts I've changed my mind on including BMac in a Chavez trade. Considering how our "stocked" minor leagues have fallen on their face with all the supposed pitching talent we had down there earlier this decade, maybe Kenny has decided that the best use of pitching prospects is to get proven MLB talent. I hope it works for him. BTW, Kyyle ........ 119 posts already? You hit the ground running!
  3. QUOTE(sayitanitso @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) I'd rather trade Sweeney than Anderson, but it most likely wouldn't be what Billy Beane-o was looking for. Really?! I'm not so up on the minors but I always read that Sweeney is more of a talent than Anderson. Anderson just has some years on him.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) This post is so confusing We were down 4 runs, Willie went up there, he was patient. He took a fastball right down the middle 3-1 because it's not really worth swinging at it and risking an out. Had Willie, or in this case Pauly as your sugesting, hit a HR, we still would have been down by a run. He did the right thing and looked to bring the tying run to the plate by any means necessary. Completely agree!
  5. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:48 AM) Fred Mitchell [Trib] Piersall swinging from the heels June 2, 2005 Former big-league outfielder and White Sox color analyst Jimmy Piersall hasn't lost any of his zing at 75. During an extensive on-line interview on whitesoxinteractive.com, Piersall disparaged late White Sox owner Bill Veeck, former Sox manager Tony La Russa and current club Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. Regarding Veeck, Piersall said: "He was a fraud. He never had any money to run the team with. Harry [Caray] didn't like him either." On La Russa: "La Russa acts real tough, but he isn't. … All I can say is Tony's real lucky he has had great players in Oakland and St. Louis because he is a terrible manager." Regarding Reinsdorf, who had Piersall fired as a broadcaster following several controversial comments: "If I saw Reinsdorf in an alley, I'd punch him right in the head." Classic Piersall. Hey Jester, oh ultimate avitar god, who's the swinger?
  6. Also, I heard that Lucky Strike on Lincoln (just south of Diversey) is a Sox hangout. I've been there many a time, but never to watch a Sox game.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) I was thinking about this lately, I live up in Lincoln Park and I was wondering if anyone else lives in the area and does before/after game drinking and eating at one of the local bars. I have a group of about 5 or 6 sox fans and we are always looking for more people to take over a bar. Anyone? There was a post about a month back regarding a northside bar that was a self-proclaimed Sox bar. Maybe someone else can refer you to it. At least I think it was on this board.
  8. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Hey, I just discovered this site today. I used to lurk around the official boards over on sox.com but too many douchebags arguing with cub nerds for my liking. Anyhow, good topics and I like what most of you say: KEEP MCARTHY, the Cuban connection isn't a sure thing. Sorry, Joe we're going full steam on trying to win and dealing with your slumps is killing us. Agreed and WELCOME!
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) So because one guy doesn't work out, that means no one else will? Come on. No. I think he may have meant that you shouldn't dump a servicable player for a "sure thing" unless he proves himself first.
  10. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Anyone that could be a decent replacement for Cruddy's horrible ass in the lineup would be fine with me. Polanco is a career .293 AVG / .338 OBP hitter. That blows away anything Cruddy could do. He can also steal a few bags and isn't a base-clogger like Cruddy is. Polanco can even lay down a goddamn bunt. If he can play a good 3rd base, he would definately fit the team concept of speed and defense. Exactly.
  11. QUOTE(beck72 @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) BHAMBarons posted last night [seeing how he seems to know more about our AA team then most reporters do, I'll take his word for it] that a lot of Phillies scouts [10?] were at the Barons game when Sean Tracey threw the other night. Some may question trading Tracey [with his poor control, and Liotta and Gio coming on strong in high A, Tracey wouldn't likely be close to AAA even this yr], I can see Tracey being expendable. The Sox want SP's who don't beat themselves with walks. Tracey will give up a lot of walks, esp in the majors as players lay off his close pitches. With that many scouts at a AA game in May, I don't see this as a deadline deal [for a Billy Wagner type player]. The Phils must want to make a move now, and aren't going to get rid of a guy who they think can help them get back into the NL east race. That said, a guy like Placido Polanco could be available. The Phils didn't even want to re-sign him, as they had Chase Utley for 2b. This would mean addition by subtraction. Get a good prospect in Tracey, get a guy for the Phils roster [Timo Perez, who has played in the NL east and had good success vs ATL, MON/ WA and FLA, who can play solid late inning defense at all 3 OF spots], maybe a bullpen arm in a AAA type guy like Arnie Munoz, and get rid of a guy making $4 mill who they didn't want in the first place, the Phils get an offer they can't refuse. Where could Polanco fit on the sox? Seeing how Crede and Uribe often look horrible for long stretches at a time [and are both in the midst of a second slump after starting the season slow], getting a guy who can play both spots [as well as 2b, and the OF] to give these guys some days off, makes sense. Their inconsistencies may necessitate the Sox making a trade for a veteran pretty soon. A move for Polanco would be to help the Sox be more competitive, esp. against the good teams. Polanco is a versatile dependable fielder at the IF spots [his career numbers at 3b are even better than CRede--fielding %, .981 to joe's .961; RF: 2.97 to 2.48; and ZR: .825 to joe's .768; #2 type hitter, who can handle the bat, makes solid contact, a doubles hitter, in essence he could help the club without hurting it. And when the sox face tough, playoff type pitchers, having both Crede and Uribe in the lineup going 0 fer and looking horrible doing it, doesn't leave the Sox with any margin for error with the 7 other guys. Crede's and Uribe's recent slide could be a sign of things to come. Maybe not. Yet the Sox wouldn't replace either guy. Both would have the opportunity to battle and get back on track, even while the Sox make a push for the playoffs. Polanco would take Timo's spot, and either Ozuna or Willie could move down to AAA when Frank comes back. Walker would likely go down when Gload is ready to return. If Polanco shows he's solid at 3b, then Crede could be expendable at the deadline. Thoughts? I like.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) The size of the seams looks proportional to the ball. Also the sun/shadowns going into the ivy when added to an extreme zoom, could play with the color. Plus I did a little visual aiding here. If you look at the yellow lines, each of them follows a piece of the fencing grid. Then all of the sudden when you get to the ball, that pattern breaks, and turns into the exact same curvature that the seams of a baseball would have. I don't think there is any doubt that this ball was under, not in, the fencing. The basket fencing pattern clearly ends at the perimeter of the ball, indicating the pattern is behind the ball. The large size of the seams is due to the distortion from enlarging the photo. You can even see the fencing pattern stop at the ball perimeter in the normal sized shot.
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) I know the Bulls arent bad now. But they were for 7 straight years, and yet they stayed in the top 5 in attendance still. Thats a fact that baffled Mariotti, and he used to love ripping on the fans for it. Newbie.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) As far as I'm concerned Duque has pitched like crap most of the time with the Sox anyway. This past outing was just a matter of time. Guys are on base all day long in his starts and his command for the most part has been awful. Yep. He's definitely been a high wire act.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 20, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) *grabs some popcorn*
  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 20, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Love to hear that! There are a decent amount of ex-WSI posters on here, myself being one of them. Welcome aboard! Ditto. Welcome!
  17. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 18, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) You sure its your lap he can sit on?? Hey Jester, can you get your avitar to sit on something for me?
  18. QUOTE(JohnStamos @ May 14, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) I don't know about anybody else, but I am annoyed at the way some White Sox fans on this board view the media (namely ESPN). Seriously, if the White Sox are not written about, people b**** and moan for the lack of recognition. If they are written about but in some way that could be considered remotely negative, people b**** and moan about the 'errors' of the author . If they are written about in a good way praising the Sox, people b**** and moan that they don't want the media to recognize them because they want to fly under the radar. I've seen it all this season as far as these points of views and simply would like Sox fans to not be so rediculous in their complaints. Just because someone doesn't think that the White Sox will win 100 games and go to the World Series doesn't mean that the guys a f***ing moron like some fans would want you to think. Chances are these writers are giving a far more objective view on the Sox than fans who are inclined to side with their team regardless of the point. For example, any writer who questions the White Sox pitching staff isn't necessarily a moron, but probably poses a valid argument given the past of the staff. Just support the White Sox and let them handle any doubters with solid play and victories. I'm not saying don't criticize anyone, but do it with an open mind and don't b**** when they present views against the White Sox that they can support. Also, get used to the fact that the White Sox are not Barry Bond, the Yankees, Cubs, or Red Sox. They will never get the national attention that these teams or players due. Every city's fans want their teams to be recognized on the national level, but there's simply not enough time to in a day to suit everyone. ESPN, realizing their audience, obviously will show more highlights of teams that have massive fan bases. That is not being jerkoffs or assholes, it's called good business. The White Sox will never get extra attention until they earn it time and time again. These are just my feelings on the media, so feel free to oppose them. BTW, I understand the hatred for those who make bold statements using false information or irrevelant statistics. AMEN!
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 13, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) Last years demise was largely due to not having our two best hitters on the field at the same time after about this time last season. Nobody here is going to blame you. I think it had more to do with our pitching going in the tank.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) One decent offseason?? The sox are the best team in baseball right now. Sure he didn't make the playoffs in his first 4 years but the teams were there, 2 of those years injuries just derailed our chances and in 03, that was the best team in the al they just choked. Forget all that for a second and realize that it took beane 3 years to make the playoffs with oakland and I believe it took Terry Ryan something like 5 or 6 years to get there were Minny(Not sure on that one). You need to give a gm some time to get his team on the field. Best team in baseball for a month-and-a-half. So far so good for Kenny .... this year. Also, were Beane and Ryan handed young division winners in there first year? I'm still hopeful for Kenny but he has made a few mistakes. This team will likely need something on offense eventually. How he addresses that will go further in showing how good a GM he can be.
  21. QUOTE(ISF @ May 10, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) Give them our staff, they'd have a winning record too. Given our offense, that can apply to any team.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 10, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Yesterdays loss nonwithstanding I think we're doing a fine job beating up on the easier teams so far this year. Our record against KC, Detoilet and Cleveland speaks to that. I don't think Detroit can be considered one of the "easier" teams. Cleveland is now but I think that will change.
  23. QUOTE(T R U @ May 10, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) I dont care that they beat us, just the fact is they are a bad team.. while people have so far tried to defend them saying they arent Sorry T R U. Though I responded to you, I wasn't talking about you.
