  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I'm sorry.. but this is a very unfair assesment of all those that attend Monday night games.. There are plenty of people that know how to behave. If you can guarantee I'll be surrounded by these well behaved people then I'll reconsider. But I'd rather play the percentages and go on other days (with my kids that is).
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Would definitely suggest not taking them on a Monday nite. Noted!
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) It's perfectly fine to show team pride and there's nothing wrong with wearing Sox stuff to another stadium. The reality is, though, you heighten the chance of getting into a problem ... big time. You can say the same about drinking beer. Cub fans are pretty harmless; stupid, but harmless. And it's not like I sit there and cheer the opposition (outwardly, at least). Plus I'm usually with a group of cub fan friends and I get more s*** from them than strangers. I have to admit, though, that I haven't been to the Urinal in about 4 years (since the kids came along). The crowd mentality has likely changed since then. I'd much rather take my little fellas to a Sox game where the scene is not as frenzied and their are less drunks. Plus there's alot more activities for the kids at the Cell.
  4. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) Why? I mean if you're there to watch a baseball game and not start trouble...then why do it?? It just asking for an argument/fight. If the Sox are playing then it's a different story...but if its the Cubs and Astros why wear a white sox shirt?? Because I want to. And I've never had a problem other than some friendly banter. And I've always been in the obnoxious bleachers.
  5. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) On another note I will never understand why a cub fan comes to sox park with his jersey on...just stupid IMO Whenever I go to the Urinal I wear something with "Sox" on it (shirt or hat).
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) I am so not the person to ask this... Honestly put... I don't care who calls the game. I would listen to Chip if it meant seeing the Sox win.. Yep.
  7. I don't think losing Harry cost us any existing fans so much as it decreased the draw for newer fans.
  8. Yeah. I forgot to include the Harry Carey loss in my list of ownership fumbles.
  9. QUOTE(Be Good @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) I actually can tollerate the Red Sox especially after what they did to the Yankmees last year. Not me. Winning has brought out their ugly side.
  10. The Sox had the city in the palm of there hand in 1983 - new ownership, marquee names, playoff appearance. But then 1984 (the accursed) happened, and coupled with Harry Carey and a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, the cub phenomena took off. Previous to that (from what I can recall - I'm 40) the team with the better record usually was the better draw. Though the Sox drew well (even outdrew the cubs) in the early 90's, the media, especially national, focused on the cubs and their "fun at the ballpark" atmosphere even though they weren't very good. Alot of disinterest towards the Sox was the fault of bad ownership decisions (taking Sox games off of WGNTV, going to SportsVision, isolating the new stadium with parking lots, the White Flag trade and the grandaddy of them all - the '94 strike engineered by JR). Even the 1919 incident had to have an impact. Edit: Just read the above post. The WGNTV cable exposure also had to have a huge influence, though more nationally than in Chicago.
  11. QUOTE(DetroitWhat @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) Hey guys, I'll be visiting here as often as I can for some friendly talk between division rivals...You really won't have to worry about me, I'm very civil, it's tough not to be when you're team hasn't had a winning season in what, 12 years now? Do you buy the Magglio hernia story? I have a feeling he'll be getting alot of "non-knee" injuries throughout the year.
  12. QUOTE(Spiff @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Then the pitching starts to suck. But at the same time:
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 06:13 AM) If Carl is out for a bit, PK should DH, like he did last yr for Sept. Gload is the better glove at 1b. There ya go!
  14. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) I will love him if he can hit half as well in the majors as he did in the Spring. Exactly.
  15. QUOTE(brentbrookhouse @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) http://whitesoxreport.blogspot.com NIIIIIIIIIIIICE! I've added it to my bookmarks.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Anyone else have any good Sox blogs, or Sox sites that I missed??? http://whitesox.mostvaluablenetwork.com/ and this: http://www.sabrsox.blogspot.com/
  17. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) No! No! Get off at Van Buren. Walk 5 blocks east! And don't forget your goggles.
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Charles Johnson WAS traded to Boston but they immediately waived him. The Devil Rays are expected to sign him once he clears waivers. Ahhh. OK, I stand (partly) corrected.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) I'm all for trading Davis is that's at all possible, but I don't think it's going to happen, especially now with Charles Johnson probably on his way to Tampa. Let's hope though if Widger is given the chance to be the backup, he does all the right things, can handle the pitching staff well, and can hit repsectively enough for a backup (hitting at the Cell should help). Johnson got traded to the Red Sox.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) ...for if he was playing in the NL and at Wrigley Field in more particular?? I know there's alot of stat heads on this board, so I would like to see his translated stats. I would appreciate it alot. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) Oh yeah, could someone also give me Prior's translated stats playing in the AL and at the Cell?? Sounds like you have a Sox/cub bet going on.
  21. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Wow, I didn't realize you had logged on here. I'd be interested in reading more of your work. It was a pleasure to read something of this caliber. Of course many of your individual points are open to debate, but you really did your homework, unlike so many in the field today. I salute you! Read away! http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/authors/studes/
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) get rid of garland No way. Garland is a known quantity who gives you lots of innings. He'll be an excellent fifth starter.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) The only thing remotely positive about this Buehrle situation is hopefully he'll be strong and refreshed down the stretch. I think that's more a truism when the injury and downtime occur in the middle of the season allowing your body to recharge for, essentially, a second half.
