Any outlets in Beverly?

Thanks. Where can I get this pub? I'm not too familiar with it (weekly, monthly?).

Where is this from?

QUOTE(AstralSox @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) No you see it does make you a moron because you based your statement on complete lies. I don't care if you agree with me or not. It was personal attack. Oh well I don't see anything personal about it. Quickman literally agreed with another poster's contention that you are really a cub fan ..... that's it. He offered no additional comment (malicious or not). :headshake You need to drop the defensiveness and roll with the punches like you did with the "Hollandsworth" dig. I don't doubt your Sox fandom even though you're neutral on the cubs, but you must realize you are a rare breed in that respect. At least on Sox internet boards.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) It's a lost art because teams don't do it much any more. There's are reasons for that. One of which being is that it takes about an 85% success rate to make it worth your while, in general. With the long ball so prevelent in toiday's game, it's not worth the risk. Now, I'm speaking in general terms here. There is a time and a place for everything. Exactly. Like late innings in a close game. You don't need to be risking a momentum killing "caught stealing" early in the game. Let your hitters do what they're supposed to do before you start taking risks.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) I would take Podz. OBP is overrated in a way with some leadoff men because a bad one can be negated by being a great stolen base threat. If you offered me a 320 obp with 75 steals or a 360 obp with 35 steals, I'll take the steals. Welcome to soxtalk.com! OBP is king. ESPECIALLY for lead off hitters! Stolen bases are nice (turns singles into doubles) but secondary.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) If healthy, it is a nice deal. I would take a healthy Maggs over comparable salaries like Garrett Anderson and JD Drew. Health aside (and it's been more of an issue with Drew), I'd take Drew over Maggs. Anderson and Maggs are pretty close.

Pirates owner rips other owners
southsider17 replied to sox-r-us's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah, I'm not so sold on a salary cap either. I do, however, think that broadcast and advertising revenue needs to be distributed more equally. How, I don't know. But a salary cap just guarantees owner profits. These are successful businessmen. They don't need any help to make more money Edit: I do think a salary base is a good idea, though, so that stingy owners don't just pocket the additional revenue. -
QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) My sources are saying the Tigers are set to sign Ordonez. Should be official in the next day or so. I'm relatively new here and unfamiliar with you so don't take this the wrong way, but do your "sources" have any credibility or track record?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) AS JOSE CONTRERAS GOES, SO GO THE WHITE SOX IN 2005. THAT may be the closest thing to a valid response as I'll see to this poll.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) What that is assumed, what needs to happen to have that happen.. that should be the question. Alot of things. Not any ONE thing on that list or any other list. I think this poll is pointless, hence my wise-ass response. :banghead I figured I could at least try and get some enjoyment out of it.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) I wouldn't worry about it too much. Philly Stark is another one of those clueless East Coast writers who dove in headfirst to the gallon of Red Sox-Yankees koolaid. Though I do admit, I am surprised he didn't put his beloved Phillies on that list. I think the Phillies will surprise this year. That NL east will be really interesting (the most improved division in MLB)

QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) hmm.. interesting.. I like your views and would like to subscribe to your newsletter Newsletter? You just read it.

What about "Win more games than the Twins and Indians"?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Pay attention Ozzie: Hernandez did rescue the Yankees' season by going 8-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 15 starts. He also wore down, though, and gave the Yankees only five so-so innings in October. But he was still recovering from arm surgery. He hadn't built up his endurance yet. And I'm not saying he has now, either. That's why I also support putting him in the 5 spot in the rotation with regards to allowing him to skip some starts.

Where's Juggernaut when you need him?! Hey! I got a promotion!

Sun Times article on Iguchi, fans, & 2005 lineup!

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) What is the argument for letting Rowand play center over Pod.? Because he's a better centerfielder. Pod may be faster but supposedly has poor judgement and a much weaker arm than Rowand. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) so you are saying, he is a sure thing becuase you know for sure that he will be mediocre. So you think a sure thing is any player who doesnt leave a little mystery to his game. So we could pick up a crappy pitcher, and he would be a sure thing because we would be sure he will lose 12 games?? Exactly. A known quantity. Mediocrity makes a perfect #5.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) Irony-the title of this thread, and its contents. Not a big Garland fan, I take it. I'm not a big fan either but I like that he's in the 4th or 5th spot now. Let's hope Contreras develops some consistency.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) Sorry Jeckle, me thinks you are going to get called out on defending Garland as a sure thing again. Garland is a sure thing. Sure to give you 12 wins and about 200 innings, which is what he's been doing for the last 3 years. That's great production from a 5th starter and decent production from a 4th starter (which is more accurately what Garland is).

3-yr averages .... OK, now I understand. ESPN also provides these, though, I'm guessing you already know this. You may or may not already know of this site but Hardball Times is an online site that has excellent analysis and articles as well as there own custom stats: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/stats/

I looked at the link for Iguchi but couldn't figure out where you got his runs and RBI #s. Are these averages? Projections based on some formula? And who is Kaitou?

Welcome! Do you just watch alot of Japanese baseball on cable or satellite or do you live in Japan?

I love stats. Keep'em coming! But presentation is key.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) After the hatchetjob that KW got in Beane's book, you know that has to be in the back of Billy's mind... What?! I doubt Beane gives Kenny any thought other than when he needs a trading partner (dupe). They are in a separate division, after all. The A's will no doubtedly have a down year compared to their recent past but, while time will certainly tell, they appear to have re-stocked for another great run.
