  1. According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the White Sox have been dissapointed with AJ Pierzynski and might trade him. Go to Pro Sports Daily and click on MLB Rumors for proof!
  2. The best player on the Sox, relative to other players at his position, is Damaso Marte. Marte wins the Sox between 10-15 games a year on his own. I always feel so confident every time Ozzie Guillen brings him in, especially with the Sox leading or the game on the line. Nearly every time, he comes through and that was why they Sox won so many one run games early in the year. Marte did struggle slightly last year but I think he was overworked because the rest of the pen was weak. This year, I expect Hermanson and Vizcaino to help him out and for this reason, I would not be surprised to see him post a sub 2.00 era. In my opinion, Marte is the best left-handed reliever in all of baseball. As far as relief pitchers, I believe that only Eric Gagne, Mariano Rivera, and John Smoltz, when he was a closer, were better than Marte and he is a future superstar.
  3. Here is the link for an article I found from JapanBall.com...It states that the White Sox want an immediate response regarding their offer and cannot offer any more money, while Iguchi remains unsatisfied...I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this article yet http://www.japanball.com/news.phtml?id=2914
  4. What is with all the Timo bashing? He was one of our best hitters with runners in scoring position last year and with games on the line, he consistently has the best at-bats out of any one on the team. You guys mentioned the Anaheim game when he hit the triple off of Rodriguez, but what about the Florida game in which he hit the game tying homer off of Armando Benitez, a 7 million dollar closer, in the ninth inning to tie a game that we eventually went on to win. HE CONSISTENTLY HAS EXCELLENT AT BATS AGAINST SOME OF THE BEST PITCHERS IN BASEBALL. Timo brings something to the table that other bench guys cannot, not only in his clutch hitting, but in his bat control. He can hit the ball exactly where he WANTS to hit the ball and can move runners along as well. Is Timo worth 1 million dollars? Maybe he is slightly overpriced...but Neifi Perez of the Chicago Cubs is also making a million dollars so there are other similarly priced contracts out there. I am sure if Kenny Williams tried to trade Timo right now, there would be some teams surely displaying interest in him. With a bench of Timo, Everett, Gload, and Burke, the White Sox have one of the deepest benches in the league to go along with an excellent bullpen and a much improved pitching staff. Timo is an essential part of this.
  5. Here are my rankings for the top rotations in baseball - what do you guys think? 1. CHICAGO CUBS 2. NEW YORK YANKEES 3. CHICAGO WHITE SOX 4. BOSTON RED SOX 5. ATLANTA BRAVES 6. MINNESOTA TWINS 7. NEW YORK METS 8. FLORIDA MARLINS 9. ANAHEIM ANGELS 10. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
  6. If I were a GM, I would easily take Jon Garland over Javier Vazquez...sure, Jon Garland's numbers have not been phenomenal over his career but keep in mind that he's still very young and he has experience and he's just gonna keep getting better and better...with Jon Garland, you are really paying for the future because he has the stuff and experience will just keep making him better...sure he struggled early in his career but that was more because Jerry Manuel had no confidence in him...if your boss at work keeps talking you down and never gives you challenges, how can you expect to get better? Garland is young and could easily pitch another 15 years in the big leagues...at 15 wins a season, Garland could easily still win 300 games and go to the Hall of Fame...it would be a grave mistake to trade Jon Garland right now...his sinker is also perfect for US Cellular Field too...Vazquez is ovverrated, his health is questionable and he got rocked in the AL, he's an NL type pitcher i think and he has a great arm but his upside is not as high as Garland's...Garland if he puts it together could easily win the Cy Young which gives us four Cy Young Quality arms (Contreras, Buehrle, Garcia, and Garland) to go with the crafty veteran El Duque, only the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees have better rotations than the Chicago White Sox
  7. The White Sox have no heart...the reason they lose every year is because they are willing to take garbage from their opponents...that is why they need the trash talking AJ Pierzynski, he's a very good offensive catcher and he will get in the heads of his opponents and anger them...If the Sox sign AJ, they would have a very balanced lineup which could actually be better than last years...Jermaine Dye is better than Carlos Lee so his addition offsets the loss of Carlos, Scott Podsednik for a full season and AJ Pierzynski as opposed to Miguel Olivo/Davis/Burke/Alomar (which we had last year) is better than a half season of Maggs...also, we did not have Thomas for most of last season so adding him back to this year's team is similar to an addition...therefore, all we really lost from last season was half of Magglio Ordonez...to offset this loss, we have a full year of Frank Thomas, Podsednik, and Pierzynski...this is easily a way better lineup than last year if we get AJ and I am pretty sure we would win the division...the only guy who could POSSIBLE get in our way is santana, if he doesn't repeat his last season, then we easily win this division...also a side note...we all know since the core of this team is locked up for the long-term, if we win now, the fans will come back and we can return to the days of 30,000 plus fans each game, in turn, this will increase our payroll and next offseason, i can easily see jerry bumping the payroll to 90-100 million in an attempts to go for it all, much like he jacked the payroll up to sign albert belle and jaime navarro in 1997...things look good on the South Side
  8. NOOOOO! Lima would get shelled...we need a sinker baller, not a fly ball pitcher at the CELL...thats why clement would have been good, or even el duque or derek lowe at the right price...LIMA would simply be disastrous and hes a head case at the same time!! But, if its lima at one million a year, or grilli, cotts, danny wrong, etc., i would definitely go with lima but only as a last resort!
  9. I agree. Garland does have a lot to prove but maybe thats because we expect way too much out of him. He is NOT a number one starter. People expect him to be an ace and win 20 games a year. He might do so in the future but we need to be reasonable for garland...reasonable means maybe a 15-8 record with a 3.85 era...even mark mulder had a 4.34 era last year and hes considered one of the best pitchers in baseball so i think in time, garland will get there...
  10. Diaz definitely isn't ready yet...he needs at least two more years of seasoning in the minors...there is no point in bringing up pitchers who aren't ready yet...all that happens is that they get pounded during their 300,000 years and by the time they get good, the are arbitration eligible and get very expensive...this is exactly the mistake the white sox made with jon garland...now that hes getting good, hes very very close to free agency
  11. We should try to lock up Jon Garland to a long term deal. I think a five year, 25 million dollar deal would be just in line for him. That way, if he ever becomes really good, he would be a great bargain for multiple years. At the same time, even if he doesn't improve, he still is a very fine pitcher and should average out to at least a 4.5 era every year, even if he never gets better. And if he was in the NL, i bet he would be a jon lieber type and post about 3.8 eras...just a thought
  12. WE DO NOT NEED DEREK LOWE...We do not need to overpay for a pitcher with a 5 + ERA unless he's affordable...what you guys do not understand is that the way to win is not to invest all your money in one player at $7 million, but to sign two players with the money, for example, I think we should offer AJ Pierzynski for 4 million a year and then sign El Duque Hernandez to a one year, three million dollar deal with a mutual option for 2006...if we do that, our lineup is this: Podsednik, Rowand, Konerko, Thomas, Dye, Pierzynski, Uribe, Crede, Harris...with a rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, Hernandez, Contreras, and Garland...that's a great team right there with very very few holes...especially with our revamped pen...don't spend all your money on one player, spend it on a few and short term contracts...that way we always have flexibility and don't get stuck for years with horrid contracts (ie - Pittsburgh with Jason Kendall)
