I am a big NY Jet fan who also happens to be a Sox fan (I know, go figure). Anyway, I was recently reading about Tim McGill, a DT playing in NFL Europe. He's the Jets' property and apparently he's doing pretty well over there. Since he played his college ball at Illinois, I'm curious if anyone here remembers him and, if so, whether you think he has any potential. Thanks!

Get this. I live in Florida and tried to watch the Orioles-Yankees game and was blacked out!!! I called MLB.com customer service and they tried to give me all kinds of BS explanations for why it happened. The bottom line is that I paid $80 for this subscription and I'm not getting my money's worth. Last night the link to the Sox game was broken until the bottom of the 1st and today I'm blacked out of a game involving two cities that are 1,000 miles away from me. MLB.com sucks.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) .... That's gotta be the fastest game in a long time in the majors. Yeah, that was an absolute pleasure to watch. In two different innings I left the TV after the Sox made out to do some quick work before watching Buerhle... and ended up missing his half inning. That's how fast he was. Masterful performance.

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) It's working for me. I usually use RP, but had to use WMP last night b/c of that error. Have you tired both? Yes, I did. Thanks for the tip. The link finally started working for me, but I missed the top of the 1st inning. No big deal I suppose...

He had to get Shingo out of there.... but I wish Ozzie wouldn't have such a quick hook with these guys. Lifting Marte was my biggest complaint. But the bottom line is that this bullpen has to do a better job.
-
Friggin' Ozzie wasting pitchers again. Why does Marte come out after one batter? Is he suddely a lefty specialist? Give the guy a chance. Now if Shingo blows this we're in the same situation as that Indian game last week when he used the entire pen.
-
I get a 'link not found' message when trying to watch the game. Every other game works. I've been on hold with these clowns for 10 mins already!!!
-
I'm definitely not talking about bullpen-by-committee. I'm just saying that sometimes the manager can have a feel for the game rather than an automatic hook when the ninth comes along. Especially when you've already used most of the pen. Just an opinion. Obviously Ozzie's in the dugout and knows better.
-
Dustin Hermanson looked great in the 8th. Ozzie lifted him just because Takatsu is the "closer." I've never understood that mentality. I mean, if you have Rivera or Gagne, fine, but no one else should get that automatic call, IMO. This is not a second guess. I was thinking this when Shingo came out there for the ninth. Now the game is tied and I'm not sure what pitchers are left if they need extra innings. Maybe Vizcaino. Hopefully we can win it in the bottom of the ninth so it won't matter.

Wow, can someone tell this guy it's only two games into the season? Good lord... Mariotti's column...

QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Dude if you state your opinion here you will be bashed. Then if you start an argument with a moderator it is all over. All the sheep will come and help. So you will lose this argument 10 out of 10 times. I don't even get that. Did I start an argument?

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Please tell me the "Fla" in your sig doesn't mean you're talking s*** from Florida. And if you are in Chicago, why are you talking smack on here and not at the game? The Sox have never drawn well during weekday afternoon games unless it's Opening Day, the recent Fri. Cubs game, or a playoff game. And NY has twice the population of Chicago AND it's a Yankee town. Like Lee Elia said, 85% (Sox fans) of the f***ing world's working, the other 15% (Cub fans) are out here! Talking s***? Are you friggin kidding me?? I was just stating a fact because I am very disappointed by it and trying to understand. Yes, I am in Florida. And I'm a big Sox fan. If you're going to be so sensitive, stay off my thread.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) People work for a living. It is a Wed afternoon in April. They work in NYC too. I have the Yanks-Boston game on MLB TV and it's packed.

It's day 2 of the season after a thrilling opening day win, against a division rival on a nice day... and the join is absolutely barren. What am I missing here? Is it a built-in reluctance of this fan base to believe in the team this early? Or is this what we can expect the rest of the year? Seriously, I thought the fan base was a little energized after this offseason.
-
Interesting that the banner should appear on April 1... :-)

I know it's still spring and I don't want to read too much into it since guys experiment with stuff... but Buerhle is really the only starter who's looked good in Arizona. Garcia and El Duque have been mediocre at best, and Contreras and Garland have been pretty shaky. Considering our home park's reputation as a launching pad, I'm a little nervous about this staff right now. Someone please reassure me...

As of right now this story is the top story on CBS SportsLine. Headline: "Changing their Sox"... http://cbs.sportsline.com

Thanks everyone for the replies. One other question... what about the club level? Can you get to the lower concourse from there?

I am buying tickets to a game and there are two possible locations that I'm considering. Both are about the same price. I've never been to a game at U.S. Cellular so I'm wondering if someone can give me their opinion on which location is better. The two options are: 1. Upper level, behind home plate (slightly toward third base), row 10 2. Lower level, well down right field line, row 30 I tend to prefer the seats behind home plate, but I've heard that the upper level at the Cell is quite far back. I appreciate any advice.

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) we win, we get respect. until then quit whining. Wow... whining? And here I thought I was just reporting something I saw on TV. Maybe I'll think twice next time.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Second, do you actually like the name of our field? Would you have thought Ravech was disrespecting Oakland if he made fun of Network Associates/McAfee Coliseum or San Diego and PetCo Park? I actually think our stadium now has the worst name in baseball along with Minute Maid Park. It doesn't roll of the tongue and it sounds just so blatantly corporate. Well, you see, he wasn't making fun of the name. The point was that he didn't seem to know the name of the stadium. I believe the current name of the stadium has been there for a few years now. No excuse for the guy who hosts Baseball Tonight not to know that.
-
There was a special edition of Baseball Tonight earlier. The Sox got dissed three different times, although each was subtle: 1. They talked about the Cubs chances this year and someone said, and I quote: "The Cubs are the only curse in town these days" referring, of course to the Red Sox winning the World Series. I understand White Sox fans don't like to say our team is "cursed" but still, how could a team without a WS since 1917 be ignored in that discussion? 2. They did a piece on Sosa and Karl Ravetch said that Chicago fans would get to see Sammy when makes a trip to Chicago this year. He said it won't be at Wrigley though, it'll be at, and I quote: "(long pause)... US.... US... Cellular... Field.... that's what they call the place the White Sox play these days, right?" Good lord. 3. In their discussion of the AL Central, Gammons said Minnesota had the best offseason. Steve Phillips disagreed, he said Detroit did better. Then someone else chimed in that Cleveland could be better than all of them. No mention of the Royals - and deservedly so... but none of the White Sox either. Wow.
-
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) Well, he's in the 35+ demographic... Exactly. The biography of him written a few years ago says he was born in '65.

What's the difference? I'm talking about looking at a map. Bottom line, the stadium where the White Sox play is not listed on Google maps. Yet Soldier Field and Wrigley are there. Go check it out: http://maps.google.com PS - sorry I posted this 8 times before. I had some computer issues...
