I'd like to think we were a manager away from 87 wins. But, I know we aren't.

Biden has definitely shown he knows when to run for president.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) I'd leave off Magic probably. He's the "worst" scoring threat in the bunch. Jordan/Lebron/Kobe. You leave off johnson because he is the worst defensive player by far, but I'll take his 5 positions and distribution, as the team would do much better without kobe/mj hero ball.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) The cubs are a one dimensional team. They can't win without the longball. That in itself isn't bad but good pitchers won't give you pitches to bop out of the park. What about this postseason has supported the thesis that home run hitting teams are worse?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Absolutely agree, you cant take anything for granted. I just dont think the Cubs pitching is the sole reason they are 0-2 right now, and you cant say that a pitcher like Hamels or Price( for a hefty return that would have probably included your current starting short stop) would have changed the fact that they are 0-2 right now yes, I think this whole "cubs need pitching" thing was just a pre-season diagnosis of the cubs that sox fans have carried over even though their pitching staff outperformed ours. But, for leading the league in strikeouts they don't seem to have those classic power arms that seem to do well in playoffs.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) The 2014 Mets and 2015 White Sox are somewhat similar. Offensively and defensively challenged, nice young pitching. KW and Hahn get a couple of guys who can hit and catch the ball, another guy or two either bounce back or develop, next year could be a lot better than many think. They hit 40 more home runs than us and have better defense. They are absolutely our aim as a team set-up, but we need to get closer to average in power.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) I leave Kobe and it's not particularly close, though someone else can probably better explain it than me. Agreed. But one, kobe/jordan is more redundant than LBJ/Jordan.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) come on now, this team is set up to contend going forward. What is happening now is 100% gravy, not expected. Mortgaging a guy like, say, Javier Baez(who was the major name on the block) would have KILLED them right now after Addison Russell went down. Theo did a masterful job, sticking with his prospects and getting an arm like Haren was absolutely the right thing to do. If this was the end of a percieved playoff window, then yea, sitting back and doing nothing is inexcusable. But calling into the score to rip Theo while your team is in the NLCS as a wildcard team is just pure fan stupidity I agree and disagree. The cubs are going to be good for a long time, and this was "a year ahead of schedule". But, lots of stuff happens in seasons like injuries and random horrible years that can derail a season. Getting to the CS is sooo close that you don't want to rely on the fact that the team is young, because you aren't young for that long. Take it when you can. They've had a lot of good luck this year with Arrieta's run and good health. But, after this year of lester I think they probably will sour on Price signing. Granted, price in the NL is probably a 36 win pitcher with a .4 ERA. At least that's what it seems like when you make the switch.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) I am not sure. The guy was a .259 career batter who only hit .167 here in limited appearances. If he was washed up then Hahn screwed up by signing him. I really wanted either denorfia or bonifacio this offseason. We got the worse one.

I was excited for this season after the first few preseason games but the defense really looks terrible.

The writing of that snl skit was really bad. I thought sanders was the best written material. Hillary's was the worst.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) http://www.thefrisky.com/2015-10-12/serial...-boyfriend-don/ weird. It's interesting but I'd want someone more reliable to weigh in. You read articles like that and realize, heyyy this is only a hop skip and a jump from the conspiracy articles that all mass murders are just actors to allow the new world order to take over.

I can't stop laughing at this play. Has there been any explanation from Pagano on what was supposed to happen?

I guess we saw the bad John fox there today. Amazing coaches paid to know how things like "a clock" works can be so much worse than casual watchers.

I was hoping it would work in the case where doctors were recommending a high cost pill (best example was a pill for skin care that was $80 pill) when a generic was available. The deductible was the same, and when it wasn't, the pill manufacturer was providing coupons to make it the same. This did some effort to remove that incentive. I think competition and pricing only works in the places it alreayd works for, non urgent cosmetic procedures (braces, skin care, etc).

I'd imagine the unemployment rate for people with law degrees is probably very low (regardless of whether they became a partner). in some demographics, the unemployment rates are 20+%, median incomes in the $10,000 - $16,000 range. So the "got a law degree and ended up doing x and paying off student loans" is probably incredible progress. Re: STEM degrees just overloading with students and can't finding jobs - 1) doesn't require advanced degrees with higher debt 2) having that skill still means you can do a lot of things! I guess my point is, they aren't speaking to you.

Looking at the lineups of the playoff teams it's a gut punch of how far we have to go. We have a bunch of players that we say "well they'd be good enough for that position", but that's what you say when you have 4-5 star players to offset the "good enough". You can't have good enough at every position!

Cubs look like the best team left to me in NL. Jays in AL. So Jays will probably lose.

LaFofo is my favorite writer.

Ugh, happiness.

Not that concerned long season.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't an increase. I think it's always more noticeable when it's a rash of skill players vs. trench bodies. This year just seems to be a run of WR/QB injuries.

Not enough for ROY though.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) To be fair, he had worked for teams in the past. I always got the impression that the writing was something to do until the next team came along. Not to say it wasn't high quality--it was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. Probably because of his name I always thought he was like 25.

Bartolo has always been the best at deploying that high inside fastball
