  7. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) There 's an Inauguration pretty much every 8 years-this just hyped beyond belief lol, and the world cup is every 4 years, I don't know why people get so excited!
  8. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) Documentaries are separate like Fog of War. But yeah, Moore and Gore don't really hold much more water than Matthew Broderick. They are entertainers. 9 years ago I don't think I ever could have imagined someone describing Gore as an entertainer unless they were using sarcasm.
  9. dave is always the best part for me.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 06:09 AM) Fair enough, I disagree with this assessment but at this point outside of a nuclear war happening, how can you really prove how bad it would be. There are movies on the subject. jk.
  11. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 04:21 AM) I feel bad for all those people with the 1-20-09 bumper stickers. I saw a "thank you George W. Bush for keeping our country safe" bumper sticker today.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) That's what I thought, too. "Monotonous suburban life can lead to a miserable existence" -- tell me something that isn't blatantly obvious. I don't know. I thought it was more complex than that and really liked the performances. Coupled together, it is just an interesting study mendez does, who is the american dream for? And the perpetual literary topic of what does it mean to be a man? A woman? Its just interesting to see.
  18. that's giving brian some really good power numbers right there.
  19. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) i read up a little on this bulls*** stat and it seems to be the same rehash of what a pitcher cannot control from his defense thus with should get a big boner over K/9 I still don't understand how the same people who emphasize K/9 are the same people who say it doesn't matter if Howard, Dunn, or Jack Cust strike out 190 times a year because it's just another out. haha, great point.
  20. Because this subject is too hard to tackle in numbers. They really aren't worth a damn and people continually asking "do you have numbers to back you up" is really ridiculous. The personal rights and moral arguments are better made and much more interesting. The argument of "until the police can prove that they can protect me all time, I have the right to protect myself" is a better argument than bringing in london stats. Because even if violent crime went up, it doesn't really prove that the lack of guns has done nothing. People from London I talk to think its absurd the amount of guns we have, and are much happier with their laws. If they feel the law is serving their people it isn't a failure. Clearly, a law banning weapons in america would not be serving a huge amount of people to their satisfaction. It would be means to a revolt.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) I disagree completely. In Chicago, no law-abiding citizen can have a gun, but that doesn't stop thousands of criminals. There are other large cities with concealed carry without a problem (39 states have shall-issue policies). You can never guarantee every individual their safety. Police cannot be everywhere all the time. More importantly, they are not legally required to protect the individual (this is mainly to prevent people from being able to sue if the police can't stop every single crime, I believe). http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/28scotus.html for the record, I don't live in chicago. I don't know what your laws are I haven't lived here in 4 years. But, further, no where in my statements did I indicate I needed a lecture that was given in your post. edit: and more for the record, if this thread doesn't convince you that data is almost completely useless on a topic like this I don't know what will.
