  1. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) Finally got around to it and I love 808's & Heartbreak. I agree, it's some interesting production much more minimal, I think that was a really apt insight. I hate the cheezy production that goes with R&B and pop, and Kanye continues to bring interesting influences into these genres. Honestly that 3 minutes in don't say you will with just the beep and the drums going back and forth I think is awesome. I think that's the key to Kanye and why I don't understand the hate unless its the dumb argument about how he's arrogant, because people I guess are going to be friends with their favorite musicians. But he was a musician who rapped, instead of a rapper.
  2. the constant bending over may hurt his back!
  3. for the month of april I want Thome to power bunt it to the left side for the sheer gimmick and gaudiness of having a player bat 1.000 no matter the detriment to our production.
  4. I doubt the White Sox are actually interested in Willy Taveras.
  5. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 05:21 AM) The Giants, speaking on Barry Zito, and the Angels, speaking on GMJ, would probably disagree. The difference between a veteran player on a large free agent contract and a prospect or AAA player making league minimum can easily be marginal or worse on the field and astronomical on the payroll. The reason we're trading our own bargain in Javy Vazquez is because we're looking for similar or better performance for $400K. Makes sense. That said, the players deserve whatever the market will bare. It's unfortunate when s***ty GM's offer s***ty contracts to s***ty players that upset the market, but these things will always work themselves out in the end. You don't see teams like Texas and Arizona overpaying on the free agent market anymore, and for good reason. but those are two bad contracts, as I'm sure there are more, but I'd imagine just as bad as any other private field.
  6. I don't think baseball players are that overpaid considering the amount of money baseball makes and the amount of players who can compete at that skill level.
  7. am I to read this right? The Giants are 5-1 odds?
  8. Unspeakable terror and tragedy. How to act rationally when confronted with such hate is not a question I have an answer to. God speed, India.
  9. When i saw this as the article in pale hose talk I was shocked for a moment. THen I realized I knew about this for 2 weeks and was uncomfortable at my stupidity.
  10. is that the "i don't wanna lose your love TONIIIIYITE"
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) So back to the original deal involving Vazquez and Jenks to the Mets... Anymore talk going on anywhere about this, or has it died down? I can't remember a time where we've heard of stuff like this, then nothing happens, then it goes through. I know its oft-repeated that if we hear about a trade rumor it means it won't happen, but I really believe its true with the white sox. If I hear "talks are heating up" surround a player on the sox, but not a potential trade, then I can believe it, but there were too many "crede for noah lowry" rumors last year that were the nail in the coffin.
  12. I came back from missouri for the first time since the paper change. I was shocked. The trib is a piece of s***.

  17. I like how people took the trouble to go out of their way, stand in line and vote, and then decide to f*** around.
  18. The shocking thing is that people are mad at this vanilla list as they name singers that they know the names of.

  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:01 AM) If someone from STL tried that I'd just laugh. wtf does STL have? they don't leave, so they don't know that their terrible city isn't great. downtown st. louis is a ghost town, nobody lives there they all commute, and yet their public transit sucks.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) I dunno, it's different certainly, but it's got a earnest and real quality to it.. His lyrics are really what moves people. No questions about In the Aeroplane is one of the finest albums ever made. So, Magnum'll join a list with Dylan, Springsteen, Jon Brion, Colin Meloy and Billy Corgan of people with different voices that just work. Back to this list though. Some lesser know possibilities. How's about : Elliott Smith Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian) Chris Martin (Coldplay) Ben Gibbard (Death Cab) Tom Chaplin (Keane) The Watkins Siblings (Nickle Creek) Gerry Rafferty (Stuck in the Middle With You, Right Down the Line, Baker Street.) the thing is, is mangums voice is so much more jagged than Dylans. Dylans is odd, but smooth, it feels like the vinyl itself. Mangums is more violent, textured and jagged and can really hurt at points. I love NMH, but, I would never give his voice any awards.
