  1. if we had spirit and gave him standing ovations every at bat we could turn him around
  2. yeah. Ugh I thought we were onto something but man is the list of top 10 1b since 2001 depressing. And even the best ones were often 3b/1b mixes. Mark Teixeira...I mean that's what it feels like we have to go back to.
  3. I think Reinsdorf needs to somehow get an emergency addendum to CBA to allow a stretch provision that allows us to waive and stretch his annual salary across ten years or something. That guy will retire with his last team being the white sox.
  4. what's more likely to get you a better return, $18 million on the free agent market by dumping benintendi...or just trading Robert and getting prospects... Robert could still get you a great trade, also frees up cash, but would require good scouting as we are unlikely to get the lower-risk prospects that are near majors that our original rebuild acquired.
  5. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5576871/2024/06/20/mlb-trade-deadline-watch-luis-robert/ WHile that salary stuff feels a little silly, reality is Robert's probably 50% off what he would make post free agency, while not necessarily being a bargain now...he's the 5th highest paid center fielder this year and 19th highest paid outfielder. Was sobering.
  6. Missed that Seidl was promoted to W-S. After a meh start he really turned it on. He bombed the first game though lol.
  7. Still he’s very large.
  8. God let me hold your hand child. Tork has not been the only top first baseman prospect drafted in the first round the last ten years. Even if their numbers were a little worse in college, it hasn’t translated AT ALL to the majors. So you can’t even say, well is it worth a top 5 pick to just get an average first baseman? Because they have been unplayable or bottom 5 i.e. he’s been garbage. You don’t think it’s relevant that he’s a 1b, but being a 1B already in college is a huge limitation. Their hitting has to be there, and they are likely there because they lack the athleticism to play anywhere else. And if they already lack athleticism, are they tapped out from strength and body control to help them succeed at a higher level? It’s a big concern and it’s not lazy to lump him in with the other players who were placed at 1b in college.
  9. Here’s where I could buy caglianone breaking the trend: He’s just extremely large and there late probably going to be these guys that just grow into a corner, and since a few of these guys have been good enough pitchers, they put him at first to ease the work load and prevent injury. I can see it happening but I don’t trust it.
  10. His covid season was 17 games. It's fair to lump them together because he has been garbage. And vaughn has been garbage. Not just "well not sure it was great value at top 5" but like garbage. And Schanuel, under .700 OPS. They are all just bad to out of the league. Damn, we should definitely take a first baseman in the second round.
  11. Eh just remember torkelson's final season got covid'd. Nolan Schanuel was in a much worse conference but had a near 1.500 ops and did have a 3 homer game vs florida. He may very well be the exception but we are talking college stats.
  12. Which felt like the kind of plan deployed against us 1000x times
  13. I really like Charlie Condon (he's 6'6), and my kinda hope is that we have a marcelo mayer type situation where a bunch try to get discounts, and he drops and sox can use the mariners pick to pay him as he drops.
  14. Brendan McKay, Prato, Evan White its been a bloodbath. might as well convince yourself this is the short, right handed prep pitcher that is actually gonna be the one.
  15. At the united center they just ask you to open before you leave, seems to work fine. And it’s just to prevent fans throwing full cans and injuring. Anyway no JR doesn’t care about Guaranteed Rates culture.
  16. Honestly if all gets did was move Crochet to a starter… that’s a damn good move
  17. I think this page is extremely unsupported, it's a miracle it works. Every time I try to find it just by navigating on MLB I never can, I have no idea who found this the first time.
  18. who cares though, that's the kind of player that should be playing on a team like this. Struggles and all. Not a 34 year old shitty reliever on his way to retirement.
  19. SO annoying on the mlb page how the links to the player bios just go to mlb home page!
  20. caulfield that's a good post. I think the bullpen being this atrocious though is kinda my red line. You should be able to find something workable, but because our ML scouting is always so bad, I'm open to it being strictly a scouting problem.
  21. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5552757/2024/06/13/royals-bobby-witt-jr-royals-turnaround/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mlbtw&source=mlbtw Sad because so much of this sounds like it could be the white sox. A longtime GM/Pres combo being sacked, but sticking within the org for a fresh voice in getz. Bringing in some outsiders to revamp pitching and player dev. But what's the crucial missing ingredient? A new owner who pushed the new gm to cut the s%*# with the old ways and start modernizing the team. I'm sure JR is that voice, right?
  22. It was a shoulder injury right? I basically wrote him off then.
  23. In Context, given how bad the pitching at charlotte was last year, that we traded our best relievers, and the ones added appeared to flounder I'd say it would be hard to have a good bullpen. However, I'd say an actual good pitching coach should be able to pull the floor up beyond this point. If I were Getz, I'd have to say my scouts were a failure. Getting the marginal pieces like bullpen to perform should be where scouts make their money. But ours our bad. They are clearly struggling without someone like Haber helping them with analytics. But as a coach, no reason not to swap out katz based off of this. Well, there is one reason. There is some consistency in coaching between our Pitching coordinator/guy in Bannister and Katz. We've seen some pretty nice performances from players coming up from that system. As we wash away the stink, and the new pitchers come up, it may be worth it.
  24. we really could have used a hit in rule 5 but without Haber I'm not sure we have the scouting chops to accomplish that.
