  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) I will tell you tomorrow. My Limewire will be hooked up tonite if you have a pc get slsk i think you'll enjoy it much more
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Well, Muse is much more rocked out than Radiohead ever was. They are starting to develop the oddness of Radiohead though, thats for sure. I still love the song "Hysteria", I think the opening bass/guitar riff is killer. have you ever heard the bends?
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Speaking of The Killers, the Cure, The Smiths.... etc, does anyone like The Dears? Their last record has grown on me slowly, but in a very big way. It's kind of Morrissey-esque, with slight hints of jazz and trip hop. Anyone? i got the dears album but i haven't listened to it... brits say that pavement sounds like the fall for basically one song...(conduit for sale) and that malkmus was a huge fan of the fall. Also the fact that mark e. smith made some comment about malkmus riding in a corvette? i unno...its a dumb argument but its been made... yeah, of muse, travis, and coldplay...muse is the only radiohead ripoff i get mildly entertained my... now MEW on the other hand...is aceeeee
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) LOL, Joy Division and Interpol fans hate that comparison. I like JD and really like Interpol. that one doesn't get me as mad (when its used as a negative cause there obviously are similarities) when people say pavement ripped off the fall (WHich came from maybe three songs in their entire catalogue)
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) ....or pick up an Interpol record. AHCVHRFHGHGHGHRHRHRHRGHGHGHGHGH... no, they sound like a bunch of early 80's bands not exclusively Joy division, plus they don't use synthesizers...Patrick wolf sounds like joy division cause he has a deep voice and uses synthesizers sometimes!...no, interpol was an integral part of a scene which influenced interpol but interpol is not joy division 05...and even if they are... i like joy division. I was -6 when ian curtis committed suicide. That makes me feel old. haha, in glastonbury(?), when death from above came on early for some other band, the crowd was booing, and the drummer/lead singer said "I gave Ian Curtis a backstage pass and he didn't show up...he's soooo dead" .... i found it funny....

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) LOL. What happened to that nice rump she had? It's gawn. She kinda looks like Elizabeth Shue in that pic. yeah you is right... i don't know if i used that smiley correctly or not...
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) The strange processes of my brain: Im listening to my Ipod, and the song "Dead Souls" by Nine Inch Nails(on The Crow soundtrack) comes on. Its one of my favorites, and I remembered that it was a cover from a late 70's band called Joy Division, and that the lead singer had died somehow. So naturally i googled Joy Division to get the story on the band. Much to my surprise, I found out that when the lead singer of Joy Division died in 1980, the remaining members stayed together and became New Order. You find out something new and cool every day. I have been a New Order fan for quite some time, and I had no idea of the connection to Joy Division. go get 24 hour party people...I love ian curtis' voice/lyrics, i like new order, but i absolutely love joy division, closer and unknown pleasures are just awesome...'love will tear us apart' is prolly one of the best songs ever...it kind of gets annoying how praised they are in some circles because some people feel every band post 1980 ripped off joy division ...i hate those people... anyways...i'm pretty excited to see the hold steady but the constantines live...really is just amazing.
  8. QUOTE(WhiteSox311 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:59 AM) Why dont you go build yourself a nice rubble house in Iraq then. Iran would've made more sense anyway

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Every gimmick hungry gob digging gold from rock ’n’ roll Grabs the mike to tell us he’ll die before he’s sold But I believe in this-and it’s been tested by research That he who f***s nun will later join the church Yes, very politically meaningful. The Clash
  11. that is absolutely incredible. SO many tragedies in one week...though i think this trumps everything...we're talking about 1/2 of our death total on 9/11...i'm just doing that to put it in perspective of how massive a death tolll that is.
  12. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) I'd take elliot smith as well... But I take it you dont play? all my brothers played and by the time i got around they wouldn't pay for me cause i had 2 brothers in college at once... i played for 4 years with my brothers guitar as he gave me lessons, i used to actually be able to play something like music but i haven't played in damn near 4 years...

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) LOL!!! Then what the hell are we talking about this for! Hahaha! Here I thought you liked them and were defending them, but instead you're playing devil's advocate? Good stuff there in that response! LOL! ha, yeah...well i've heard this argument once by this kid who didn't like the clash because of their politics...i nearly threw a book at him...i guess it was that side coming out of me...sorry...cheers mate.
  14. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) I'm pretty sure you did suggest the stereotypes.. that's their demographic...like i said...boy bands, chick bands, jam bands... i follow generalizations...when i go to a show in the city, i just have to follow a bunch of kids that look like they are going to the show and 70 percen tof the time it works... its nothing to be sensitive over...
  15. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) I like ONE album post lillywhite. And BTCS is better than UTTAD. Again you avoid your attacks of dave as a guitar player and saying its easy stuff. I'd like to see how many of your bands use a 12 string acoustic... OMG ZZ 12 STRINGZZZ OMG !!!! compared to brian eno, stevie ray vaughan, buddy guy, if we are going acoustic, i'd go elliot smith, i'd take jeff mangum, nearly everyone i'd listen to could take dave matthews minus...hmmm death from above cause they only play a bass, but i'd still be willing to see them try...jonny greenwood would own him...hell thom yorke i'd even say could take em...
  16. i dont' think you're being typecasted...when i say dave matthews plays to a frat boy/HS girl crowd, he does... i don't seem to mind when someone says that a band plays to girls when i see when i'm at their show i'm one of 15 guys there...
  17. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) Perfect description of how bmags has portrayed himself. I'm not sure what youre valid points were, maybe it was saying that it was the worst piece of adult temporary garbage in a long time. Or saying he sucks at guitar without proof, like when I showed tabs to a song that you'll never be able to play in your life, not saying that you would want to. Maybe it was when you said Lillywhite wrote DMB's music and that he gave them creative juices, which, was clearly wrong, like I had proven. But you dont care about the other opinions and continue to throw out there, dave matthews sucks. Your own opinion, not backed up by some mythical facts that you clame are the absolute and undisputed truth. its good that you can make up things to act like your right...i never said that steve lillywhite WROTE dave matthews music...but it is true that i said that he can't make a studio album post steve lilly white...and you didn't prove anything, because i threw in remember to things as a concession, its nowhere near as good as under the table or before these crowded streets, and as you guys are all jumping on the bandwagon of saying i portrayed myself as arrogant, maybe you should realize that you are now attacking a poster, while i was attacking a band. And just as you think that he made good albums somehow post lillywhite, i think he makes adult comtemporary garbage. At least i gave reasons to why dave matthews sucks and credence that he made good albums in the past, why you feel so insecure about liking dave matthews i don't know, when someone says they don't like a band i don't like i can back up why it sounds good to me, everyone responding to me acts like I shot a baby. If i started an official music thread, i guarantee you i wouldn't get as upset as you guys would if people came in and said they sucked.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) But to say all his fans are of that genre is bulls*** too. I'm a Dave fan, but nobody would type cast me as a frat guy. Nor would I want to be. I brought it up earlier in the thread. I know people have gotten looks sometimes for saying they're a White Sox fan. People assume that all White Sox fans are ghetto/white trash, mullet-wearing, base-coach beating, etc. I don't see how that's any different, than saying all DMB fans must be tokers and/or frat guys. Assumptions aren't always right or fair. quote me plus i said demographic, and i don't have a problem saying dave matthews plays to frat boys and high school girls, and i don't have a problem saying backstreet boys played to middle school girls, and i don't have a problem saying that cat power plays to a female crowd despite the fact i've been to her shows...
  19. if we blow this...i am gonna be in a bad mood through thanksgiving/probably on meds...i think i'd develop an ulcer,
  20. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) But what's the point of arguing if you refuse to even listen to the other side's debate and point? There's a difference in debating the merits of certain artists and saying this artist sucks and the only people who like them are drunk frat boys. One is constructive the other is pointless and can get rude and degrading. There's a big difference. And, personally, I don't like DMB either, but it's a matter of personal taste and I'm certainly not going to act like I'm some musically superior person because I don't like them. That's sort of my point. i haven't said this artist sucks, i actually gave legitimate points...which is why i was suprised he was more mad at me then the people who actually said dave matthews sucks exclusively...and the point about him appealing to frat boys and high school girls is undoubtedly true...just go to a concert/visit a frat/high school girls (they'll be in the same place)... And i have listened to his stuff and countered it...so really there is no reason to get upset about what i've been typing...unless you are a dave matthews fan and there are other reasons why they'd be upset about that in the first place
  21. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:47 AM) You know what I don't understand? Why you would go into a thread to s*** all over something someone likes. I don't go into NASCAR, college football, or similiar threads to belittle other people's pleasures. I am baffled by this aspect of the SLAP forum. politiking is all arguments...and i don't know why we all would have to go into the official dave matthews thread to just praise him...if its official it would have all sorts of info on him, like how he succombed to the pressure of his record company to reach a greater demographic aka sell his soul to sell more records...he basically steals everything even the story of the crossroads except much more suburban. I don't understand why someone can voice his opinion on a person in a good light, and i can't equally express my opinion on that person in a nother light...thats ridiculous. I haven't called hi8is bad at guitar, a sellout who can't make a good studio record anymore...i called dave matthews this, in the official dave matthews thread...so whats the problem? and to hi8is...dave matthews isn't even the best guitar player in his genre, (obviously tim reynolds is in a league of his own), i'd say he's better than trey anastacio, but john mayer is a much better guitar player than him despite the fact that he steals entire jams from live shows from SRV. For the most part, considering i don't even play the guitar but have three older brothers who do, and with little practice i could play 4 dave matthews songs (two steps, satellite, *watchtower 3/4s, jimmy thing) i think i'm entitled to say that his songs are not that difficult. The best musician is obviously their drummer.
  22. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) That wasnt directed towards you... The Stone Tabs There, if you play, which I doubt, try it, and play it up to speed with the videos they show... you've hit a new low when you are trying to prove dave matthews worth as a guitar player...

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) Yeah but so much of the three chord thing has vanished, and that Green Day album was trying to be so much more than just a three chord Punk album. They were shooting for Clash-type respectability. oh, well, i haven't listened to it cause i think green day sucks... art brut = must have...
  24. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Usually when people tell me that a record is a 'must have' I stay the hell away from it, cuz it's bound to suck.......err I mean, it's usually not to my liking. 'Separation Sunday' by 'The Hold Steady' is one of the few the exceptions. I resisted this record forever and finally picked it up. Solid disc beginning to end, will probably go see them next month. they are coming to mizzou with the constantines ergo...it should be the greatest show ever...constantines live are ridiculous plus the hold steady and i'm sooo excited...i nut myself when i saw that flyer...
  25. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) I actually found that article hilarious. and to bmags, saying that Lillywhite made the band is a falacy. The songs were written and performed wayyy before they worked with him. I'm really curious as to how boring a song like The Stone would sound to someone who's actually picked up a guitar. IMO the hardest DMB song to play. Your opinions are extremely biased and I doubt that you've ever actually been to a show recently or even at all. i question how much music you've actually listened to if you think a dave matthews song is hard to play... and i went to alpine valley in...99 i believe...good show, good fun...compared to the decemberists show, broken social scenes, the constantines though...just horns and up tempo music...nothin that special
