Lawrence is in no way a massive bust. He still threw for 4,000 yards. He’s a definite long term starter but they definitely suffered without Kirk. Ridley had way too many drops. Fully expect him back to 2022 self next year.

I mean it was never the highlight plays. Honestly he was probably one of the better Red Zone QBs I imagine. But he just so consistently took a ten yard sack rather then finding a 5-6 yard gain and we could never get in field position. Add the fumbles to the sacks and it just destroyed the value he provided with his legs.

And I say that because that is 4 different orgs. 1 was the best development situation of all time (Lance). Utter failure. Pats developed best QB of all time. Consistently drafted later round QBs and flipped them (Garoppolo was equal value, but others as well). By year three they hated him. Jets and Bears both equal strugglers. But Jets have Wilson a strong defense and a damn good skill room for wide outs. Failure. The jags have Lawrence the worst first year set up of all time. He’s a sure long time starter.

I know the packers are an opposite end here but I see this and I think to myself the idea that the great QBs were “developed” is extremely overrated. Feels more like 60% luck, 30% scouting and 10% development. I think you take the risk on a fields because the arm, accuracy when set and athleticism is worth seeing if he could improve his processing and sack avoidance. It didn’t work out. And while he could have had better stats in other orgs, I’m honestly not sure the degree better, certainly not to a top 15 QB imo.

To be fair given what guards went for in free agency, getting a locked in 2 year 8 mill deal for a guard you like may be worth the price. Just like if Allen was cut, no guarantee he chooses Chicago.

If poles price was a starter price, nobody viewed him as a starter. This is a backup price that got worse as backups with longer contracts were acquired.

Wow. Not sure I’ve ever seen a bigger disconnect between perceived value and real value. I think Poles probably fucked this up, but I also kinda don’t blame him as it just lined up horribly and it’s clear coaches would prefer a QB who can run a passing offense. Clearly the shanahan/McVay coaches were not on board and that’s 3/4 of the league.

I disagree, I think if they love the WR they take them. Holes aren't filled with depth, they are filled with stars. I think if they trade out it's because they didn't like the WR available. But I could see a great spot now to trade back and get the next tier of WRs in a better position (Thomas Jr)

Really happy about this. Splits the baby I was worried about where if you sign Mike Williams it could complicate taking the receiver at 9. No such concern with a 1 year deal or with a 32 year old. And Allen is the perfect safety valve. However…this decreases likelihood of getting one of the top 3 receivers. Need pats to want a QB, and LA to trade out.

He maybe devolved as Sox lack of concern over nutrition and training at those levels let him balloon, his defense got worse from reported levels with cubs, and then his hitting got worse in majors each year.

There is this back and forth of this board where player development is super important, but when it's drilled down on people ultimately just believe it's scouting and pd isn't that important. But I have a hard time believing it was only scouting when it was just incredibly noticeable how nearly every pitcher had command problems, stuff or not. Nearly every hitter swung at everything, power or not. And nearly every position player was woeful at defense, athletic or not. The only ones who broke that had super human abilities like Robert, and moncada's athleticism at third. I'm sure the Cardinals are better at scouting for defense. I'm sure the guardians are better at drafting for command. Scouting is a big piece of ball players. But PD at the aggregate level should be getting more guys that are AAAA players to be reserves, getting a few more guys that would be reserves/backend guys to borderline starters. After that it's talent. But Lenyn sosa never has a chance to develop his bat when he's also s%*# at defense.

I don’t love this trade. I don’t hate it. For the record all my takes were good. In general, in any trade of a strong starter I’d prefer the return to be headlined by a position player. Pitching prospects, it’s like there should be an acronym about how they aren’t reliable. But I’m more lenient on receiving pitching headliners for pitching. Trade pitching headlined by position player prospects - gold standard Trade position players headlined by a return of pitching player prospects - good trade pitching with pitching returned - acceptable trade position player with headlined return of pitching - not ideal. Have to be incredible like a 25 year old coming off TJS. I don’t really get the profile of Thorpe but clearly people like him. Or at least like trading him.
