That's what has been surprising. Though last year they shot themselves in the foot by panic trashing their initially scouted group only to see that group recover and be decent while what they brought in was bad the rest of the year. Surprised they haven't tried more 'failed Starter' type to give em a shot in bullpen

I'm genuinely amazed how uninteresting and bad our bullpen pipeline and mlb talent is. few arms are even interesting. This has been a thing for 5 years, after they put crochet in there it's just been a lot of trash cycling through from AAA where a guy with an 9 ERA was our hope to be good in the majors.

Can't say I'm surprised, I had a hard time justifying him as a top prospect after a full 1.5 years struggling. Signs of life at the end of the year, but he needs to show he can hit velocity and be more consistent. The Quero / Teel was nice, he called Quero a no-doubter behind the plate. Though believing in their bats, neither seem to be likely to produce big power there. Braden was a great write-up, and he thinks he'll be at least a 55 in right. Here was quero's Quero remains a solid-average defender with an average arm, still working on some of the finer points of the position but also a no-doubt catcher whose bat looks like it’ll make him a regular there. He may be better off in some kind of soft platoon role, depending on how much of the improvement against righties was real, but there’s still everyday ceiling here. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6078454/2025/01/27/top-100-mlb-prospects-2025-keith-law/

Kliff was a huge part of this, but the thing is with Daniels he always gets yards. Very rarely do they get negative plays, and then he is so insanely composed and fast as he’ll, they have 4 downs every drive to make a first. They just never punt. The story with Caleb and the bears offense this year was just so so so many penalties and sacks and 3 yard loss runs. Always behind the chains. When they weren’t, it worked well.

Was relieved when Biggs affirmed Allen was likely. That’s a huge help that Johnson can trust someone to “head coach” the defense. I was excited by Shaw but thankfully OC just less impactful than normal. Clearly Johnson wanted a guy who was hungry. (as I watch this, damn Milano is awesome) Sounds like this is a very New Orleans coaching staff, with Roushar likely

Man how are we in this super team loop.
-
Woof. Not the start I wanted to see.
-
KC Philly would be be that horrible rams/pats Super Bowl from 2019 or whenever
-
I’m scared for Sox season to start. The bulls being on this hidden network has made them invisible to me. Last year, the bulls would occasionally be on, led to my kids wanting to go to games. This year? Never comes up. Whatever financial decision showed this is better, it’s a horrible brand decision long term.

I’d be a big fan of Shaw. Hated it as an HC but then read a lot of people who are still big believers of him as some who could have Harbaugh like success
-
That was 100% the life with shoop. But, I unno, looking back what was an offense with Jim Miller, Shane Matthew’s, etc as QB supposed to look like. Turned out he was better than Terry Shea that’s for sure.
-
It is so funny that the bears offensive savior staff is made up of not Andy Reid guys or Shanahan guys or McVay guys but John shoop and Adam gase guys
-
From what it sounds like, McCarthy rebuffed them when Jerry was doing his “wait until last moment of contract then pay way too much” routine and they weren’t prepared. Jerry fully seems in his reinsdorf era of just wanting coaches who like him and he likes. Awful situation for cowboys fans. I think Schotty is a good OC but this seems like Jason Garrett at best.

I don’t even know that it’s bad, I just hate all the aggregators that put together any rumor and go “Wow what a staff!” Like just chill
-
I hate post coach hire when a lot of assistant rumors get out and people start hyping them. And they almost never happen. Rizzi not happening, we’re keeping Hightower (fine I guess). Lions OL coach not happening. I sure hope we hear DA is done soon …but that’s not done
-
Man seeing Aaron Glenn’s list for OCs, who may be good, makes me so so so happy to not have a defensive coach. Just such a crapshoot elevating QB coaches you’ve never worked with.
-
I mean I think he was available, he was a real candidate for washington. I think he'd have taken Chicago, so the answer is that the bears chose Matt for some reason.

So one true thing one thing that feels true but not sure: - Bengals rumored to be hiring ND DC Al Golden. He was their LB coach in 2021, but most of his career has been college. This follows GB hiring Boston College DC last year, Minter with Harbaugh, and ymmv but Macdonald from UMich. The college to pro DC pipeline is becoming pretty apparent. We hear a lot of college offenses influencing pros, but not sure it’s that. Seems like it’s a nice place for position coaches in nfl to go get playcalling, proof of coaching experience. - other thing that seems real…sure seems like great offensive coaches have been more capable in finding great DCs than vice versa. While I know a big part is supply, it does seem like the Defensive head coaches view every scheme as a gimmick they can stop…except running the ball. The unstoppable plan.

What does leader of men mean though? Just fiery? Allen isn’t fiery but I remember him being pretty liked by his players. It’s just hard to be a leader when you lose. Johnson is fiery. But is Shanahan a leader of men? Was KOC? I unno, but I think Allen’s time as a HC is a big help for Johnson.

Now everything is in the nicest light. They got to get info on the Vikings (Flores), Lions (obvious) and packers (Stepanovic). Everything is good again.
-
Im impressed most that they didn’t even interview him in person. The optics were not the reality, thankfully

I wonder if If Ben Johnson wants a RB the good news is this is a phenomenal draft for RB and you could get a great one at 39 or 41.
-
Right, the reason I'm more confident is because the general ether love Ben Johnson, not that the bears picked him out of a lineup. Nothing works out until it works out (buffalo, detroit, etc), but boy Johnson sure felt like the biggest coordinator hire since Shanahan. But...some may say Daboll. You never know, but I think other stuff sunk Daboll anyway.
-
Correct, absolutely. Now actually draft ?
-
I'm gonna kinda say...good job Warren? We went from people calling him an empty suit, to someone over-meddling in football business, to landing the top HC candidate and getting George to certainly pay him near Reid money. He's gonna be paid a ton.
