    If you are not flexible with the dates then definitely tell them in advance.

    Thanks, after thinking about it after your response that is the best call.

  2. Anybody ever have to negotiate a vacation period soon after you start a job? I am pretty far along in a process and in exactly 58 days leave for a 12 day honeymoon. Tell them before or after a possible job offer?

  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:06 AM)
    I probably wouldn't ask that sort of information with a person who would have a similar title as you (regarding Salary / Bonus). I would focus more on the questions regarding culture, position, upward mobility, etc. Salary stuff should be for people levels above you (as well as HR).

    Appreciate it!

  4. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:02 AM)
    It all worked out, it will be a phone interview so I can just do it on a lunch break!

    I found out my third interview will be with a person that would have the same title as me which is great because I can ask questions regarding the position. My question is, how in depth can we go? Is it OK to ask about a salary range, bonus, etc. or is that too much?

  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 05:34 PM)
    Maybe request that they do the interview off hours or at a more convenient time? I wouldn't burn multiple days off for a single job interview because they keep having callbacks...I'd tell them, look, I'm open to new opportunities, because I'd be foolish to ignore the possibilities of working for a great corporation like this one, but be that as it may, I cannot treat my current employer like they don't matter and take multiple days off in order to interview, they deserve better even if I'm willing to look elsewhere. They may even like hearing your loyalty. ;) OR, they'll tell you f*** off...but that's honestly what I'd say, and have said to potential employers in the past.

    I've always told friends that the best time to look for a job is when you don't need one...that way you can say whatever you want to say in an interview, versus being afraid to say what's on your mind because you need the job. I've said some pretty outlandish things thinking in my mind, "f*** it, I'm saying this, and if they don't like it, too bad, I don't need the job anyway", only to have them put me at the top of their list BECAUSE I said it.

    It all worked out, it will be a phone interview so I can just do it on a lunch break!

  6. So I have interviewed with a large corporation and a very good opportunity. I have taken time off of work to Skype interview twice and was just moved on to the next stage and once again was asked to interview with "a few more people." I have a 12 day honeymoon at the end of this year and it would be devastating to keep requesting this time off of work to be in a quiet place for a Skype interview and end up not getting the job.

    Anyone else ever have this issue? Ugh, when to say when...

    I know it costs money, time, etc. but things like this are much easier when it's one long day of interviews but I guess that's just how it works.

  7. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:32 AM)
    Uchi was probably the best sushi I've ever had. Expensive, but worth it. Fishes flown in overnight from Japan was worth every single buck.

    Yes, I was hoping to catch the Austin location when I was there last month but couldn't make it. #drunkatmybachelorpartyissues

  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:21 AM)
    Wow, 5 places? Amazing.

    I swear to God PLEASE let Houston's pitch be convincing Melo it's a real city. PLEASE GOD.

    Well, just giving you some spots to try so maybe you can enjoy yourself next time, all you gave us was bad weather (false) and it being a strip mall (false). I have no ties to Houston, just letting you know that I highly disagree and there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself if you take the time to figure it out.

    I'm sure I could find plenty more if I am there longer than 5 days, stay ignorant my friend.

  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:28 AM)
    No. sorry it sucks. it's a strip mall with 100 degree heat.

    If you hate Houston that much, chances you you are doing it wrong.

    The first time I visited Houston, I wasn't able to leave downtown which is a little Ehhh. During my next visit, I was able to explore and it is indeed a cool place with cool areas.

    I would suggest doing some research before a next visit, there are tons of great spots outside and in the city. Take it for what it is.

    And to be honest, the best meal of my life was in Houston, Uchi. Outstanding restaurant in a cool part of town.

    West Alabama Ice House - one of the finest dive bars in existence

    Tacos Tierra Caliente - Best taco truck ever

    Ninfa's on Navigation - amazing TexMex and creator of the fajita

    Uchi - Ridulous Japanese restaurant

    Underbelly - Great food, some of the best desserts I have had in recent memory

  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:21 AM)
    Going to Nashville for the first time July 9-12. Any suggestions?

    Dining

    Loveless Cafe - load up on biscuits, go on a weekday, any wait is worth it especially for breakfast. Amazing stuff

    City House - get the pizza with the belly ham, one of the best pizza's (yes, I said it) you will ever eat. It's legit, named one of the best pizza's in the country by Food Network. Everything there is awesome

    Meh, Undercover Shutdown wasn't nearly as good out of the bottle, it had a noticeable bitter carmel after taste.

    This thread isn't nearly as fun without Flasox JIm. :crying

    What ever happened to him?

  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 09:27 AM)
    It's better they tell you prior to the interview rather than hold the interview anyway and waste your time.

    Nothing like having an interview for a position you know about 3 questions in you never had a chance of getting.

    I completely understand that but this wasn't just thought up or decided at 8AM this morning, this was either planned or they found somebody else for the position. Either way, if you schedule an interview with a currently employed prospect, this should not happen.

    I didn't even add that they asked me to meet for this interview on Tuesday (as in June 3rd) asking that I get back to them ASAP. Confirmed with them yesterday.

  13. Had an interview set up for a sales position for the biggest Medical company in the game for tomorrow. Day taken off, 100% prepared for the interview, I get a call 24 hours prior (a few minutes ago) that the position is now cancelled and moved to another state. Doesn't get any more unprofessional than that in my opinion. What a joke

  14. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 28, 2014 -> 03:53 PM)
    She can apply for unemployment immediately. I got a severance package when I got let go at my old job and they actually advised us to do exactly that.

    Interesting, thanks - Just a quick google search shows that Illinois consider severance payment for PAST services. She is taking this over a 10 week span and not lump sum, is this what you did as well?

  15. My fiance was just let go due to a restructuring at a major company located in the city, she was given a nice severance package over the course of the next 10 weeks. Crazy thing being, we get married in a little over three months followed by a 2 week honeymoon that's already locked and loaded

    I am not worried whatsoever about her finding a job as she is well connected and great at what she does. We have been questioned as to what the plans are moving forward, does she apply for unemployment after her 10 weeks are up (only a couple weeks before the wedding)? Or does she find a job as soon as possible and just give a heads up about the many days off that are needed come September and perhaps some more before hand?

    I firmly believe that if you are the right person for the job, they will accept you regardless but a few others in the industry think that it may not be a good idea.

    What does everyone think?

  16. Won our first game 13-4 on our quest for the 3-peat, Smoked a couple of liners to the outfield, had a gapper (wind blowing in majorly) hang up a little too much and the guy "tip-drilled" me for the out, then tried to smoke a homer in the last inning. 2-4, 2 RBI's, 2 Runs...I'll take it

  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 09:28 PM)
    Franklin BBQ...can't wait to hear if it lives up to the hype!

    The hype is real...what a feast. Personally, I don't mind waiting for food and if you are waiting in a line with others who don't, it is a party. Everyone is drinking, playing football, having fun because everyone is there for the same reason.

    I got there at 8:30 AM and was around 40th in line with 6 people in our group, I would recommend getting there at 8AM. We were far enough back that we weren't in the first wave of people sitting down to eat (but they are expanding the restaurant to seat more people). All in all, didn't leave until around 12:30.

    Bring (or rent from the guy in the parking lot) a chair, football/baseball, sunblock, hat, beer, etc. and have fun. They take orders 2 hours before opening so they can judge for the people towards end of line.

    They will recommend a half pound of meat per person, we ate a pound per person. Brisket, Turkey and Ribs, everything was amazing. They also sell beer in line. Most likely you are going to be hungover and hungry from the night before, luckily there are places to get amazing breakfast tacos nearby early on.

    10/10, it's an experience.

    Also, Austin may have jumped up to one of my top favorite cities to visit in the US. Recommendation, spend one night on 6th street but a must is to check out Rainey street, West Sixth is also a blast....so much to do in that city. Renting a boat on Lake Travis probably something to look at too

  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 6, 2014 -> 03:32 PM)
    His place is revered by the food industry, even making lists of best restaurants in the country to visit. His name is on the front door. It makes sense to me that if he wants to do something else he would close up shop.

    Just ate at Franklin's BBQ in Austin on Friday. Aaron Franklin probably pays no more than $3 per pound for brisket and then charges $19 for that pound. He makes 81 briskets per day at an average of 12 pounds. Over $15,000 per day (of course between all other costs) but this is only on brisket, there are four other meats, sides, beer, pop, clothing (which I believe Hot Doug's sells). Amazing for a restaurant who's hours to the public are literally only about 2-3 hours.

    Well over 3 million in brisket sales per year at over a 500% clip, quite impressive. It depends on the business you are running and the food you are selling, Hot Doug's is selling alot of meat "scraps" (awesome scraps though) for $4 or $5

  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 01:08 PM)
    So I had interview about 3 weeks ago. I haven't heard any feedback regarding my interview or the position. I am going through a recruitment agency as a third party. The guy apparently went on vacation and just got back this week. My recruiter/agent has emailed him for feedback.

    Should I just assume the worse here? I feel like they would have made an offer by now if they wanted me.

    Unfortunately, 3 weeks is literally nothing. Do your weekly follow up for up to a month and a half, after that, move on. If they return your messages after that, see what happens. These are corporations we are talking about here, think about the things that we all need done at work and how long it takes sometimes. It's like that in the hiring process as well, not always a bad thing but they are just doing their due diligence (sometimes).

  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 05:33 PM)
    Damn man, have fun. I love Barcelona, and only had a few hours in Madrid, but I would love to go back there and spend more time.

    Heading out to Europe as well in two weeks:

    Scotland (4 day whiskey tour)

    London

    Dublin

    Amsterdam

    Paris

    Prague

    Brussels/Ghent

    Super stoked for it, almost 3 weeks total.

    London - Cabinet War Rooms is very cool and underrated and whether you like the music or not, check out fabric nightclub...one of, if not the best nightclub in the world. Usually open until we'll past sunrise. Skip the London Eye

    You MUST do Bike About Tours in Paris. MUST. Fat Tire bike tours is the popular one but ignore it, Bike About takes you to all of the unknown, "underground" Paris....they don't even take you to the Eiffel Tower. Amazing tripadvisor reviews if you want to look. Have fun!!!

  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 12:48 AM)
    Think I might be headed to Orlando in late May. Got a free Celebration Pass to Universal Resort from work, and my buddy who lives down there works for Disney. Anyone got any other Orlando suggestions?

    If you like reggae (I've brought friends there who "hated"it and became big fans after leaving), Bob Marley's on Citywalk is always a blast. Place has an amazing vibe starting at midnight on.

    Miller's Ale House on I-Drive, food is OK, people watching is prime-time here. Great for watching sports

    Dining, if you are looking for something unique (I go to Orlando a lot for work)....look up Pharmacy. It's as hidden as it gets but it is incredible. Only locals know about this one for the most part.

    http://thepharmacyorlando.com/

    Downtown Orlando (as in the city downtown) is awesome, great bars/restaurants/clubs on Orange and it is very clean. Worth a cab.

    Other than that, anywhere outside of downtown is tourist trap hell and there are MANY chains. I would suggest a Yelp or TripAdvisor search near where you are staying if you want to stay away from chains.

  22. Many "new" amazing places in Bridgeport.

    I prefer Tacqueria San Jose to Erendira, same side of the street not even a block away. Great green salsa.

    Martinez Grocery - grocery store but head to the back for some of the best tacos, tortas, burritos in the city. Amazing stuff

    Pleasant House - different, amazing pot pies but also have specials every night like a fish fry, burger night, etc.

    Nana - my favorite brunch in the city, great food all around

    Polo Cafe - divey, strange hours, great food

    Han 202 - "upscale" Chinese, offers a 5 course menu, BYOB. Had a great meal there.

    Zaytune - awesome middle eastern food, not a "buffet-style" but comparable in pricing and quality to a Chipotle

    South Kawa - solid sushi

    A couple of places I've heard good things about but haven't been

    Chef AJ's

    and

    Kathy De's

  23. Heading to Austin for my bachelor party in exactly one month for 4 days, we have a yacht rented on Saturday (just e-mailed Franklin BBQ for a takeout order to bring aboard the yacht for lunch) and also have a table rented at Easy Tiger on Sunday. I have a list but does anybody have any other recommendations that they have personally done that may be worth checking out?
