QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) Our two days are pretty planned out already. We have our passes reserved for the 9/11 memorial, tickets reserved for The Comedy Cellar, a class booked at Barry's Bootcamp, and reservations at Candle79 (vegan), Butter (Alex Guarnaschelli), and The Lamb's Club (Geoff Zacarian), and a whole lot of other ideas in between. I cannot wait. I was thinking of Butter but the reviews kinda threw me off, please let us know how it is! Inside of it looks amazing

actually, it's more so the sights, I have my food and bars already lined up. Big foodie right here, I'll give you my list of where I will be looking to eat (all types of price points as well). But I would also like any food rec's, Note: I will not be visiting all of these but this is my list as of now One of the Momofuku’s, this guy is a New York legend Ippudo for some Ramen Di Fara (a little far) but this place looks insane, the owner has made every single pizza served there for 40 years by himself. Minneta Tavern – for the so called “best burger” ever made, the Black Label Burger Crif Dogs and the speakeasy located next door Birreria above Eataly – I think I am most excited about this Shake Shack Takashi Papaya King Ess-A-Bagel Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Sushi Azabu Eleven Madison Park Lombardi’s/Grimaldi’s Yes, quite a few were seen on Anthony Bourdain but these places were legit before he was even there

First time going to NYC other than a half day stop when I was young (first time since I've been 21), any recommendations on where to stay (and how to stay at a relatively decent price, which I know is not easy), food, bars, which sites are worth it, which are not, etc. We will be flying into Newark, is the train the easiest way to get to Manhattan. I usually pull Hotwire a few days before hand but does anyone else have any secrets?

Have some big decisions to make with keepers this year, keep four and lose that round that you had chosen him in. Must keep four regardless of position Ryan Zimmerman - Round 13 Gio Gonzalez - Round 9 Jay Bruce - Round 6 Andrew McCutchen - Round 3 Drew Stubbs - Undrafted (lose last rounder) Brett Lawrie - Undrafted (lose last rounder) Madison Bumgarner - Undrafted (lose last rounder) Now, if I keep multiple "undraftees", I will lose 1st to last round pick, 2nd to last round pick and so on. I'm thinking to ixnay Gio and McCutchen and choose out of the other 5, what does everyone think?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) The Bulls are a lottery team without Derrick Rose. What team (save Heat and maybe Lakers/Thunder) isn't a lottery team without it's star? -
Anyone have any tips, suggestions, etc. on making a drive in the mornings (my new job) from southwest suburbs near Oak Lawn/Alsip/Crestwood to River Grove? I start at 8 AM and I have tried a couple different ways but gonna try 294 to 290 and right off at Manheim tomorrow which I hear is the best way. This is gonna suck until I find the perfect time and way to take!

Heading this wknd to Denver for the Bears game but gonna get some skiing or snowmobiling in, I have never been in the Rockies during this time, other than the game and a day of winter activities anyone else have any suggestions (other than shopping and all that boring stuff) to do around there? I wish it was summer so I could head to Red Rocks Amphitheater again!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) That is because he is a selfish prick. That he is but the Marlins handled this pretty badly as well, Ripken changed positions at the age of 36, A-Rod willingly changed while being traded to a contender. Why not consult this with Han-Ram (unless that didn't come out) about why they are moving a guy who in the previous five years had a 29.3 WAR and was face of franchise to avoid from this being handled so publicly? Unless this was their plan the whole time and to end up trading him, this was a stupid move IMO With that being said, they pluck Pujols and nobody will bat an eye

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I dont like messing with unemployment, there are negative connotations with that for loans, jobs and whatnot. Just start reaching out to recruiters on linkedin. Good Luck. That's true, I have been doing that for awhile now, I have a lot of connections through my line of work but haven't come across anything yet....Thanks

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) It is. But if he quits, they will deny him benefits. I actually cut a deal with them that I would stay on my parents insurance until I was 26 but shhhhh, which is one of the many reasons I am pissed off. It was a great opportunity with a chance to make great money but it really crashed and they have succeeded in "sales prevention". Because of some of the things they have done despite my orders, I have actually probably lost out on 5 figures of commission money in the past 5 months. So if they are taking away my base pay, I have 0 interest in working commission only.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) I think he is suggesting that his unemployment would net more than what he would make without a base salary at his current job. That would be correct! Just hoping that they will give me my termination papers

I took a position in July with a company with an awesome product line but like many, they are just really F'd up. They just notified me yesterday that they are taking away my base salary (which I had told them in the beginning I would not accept the position without a base) and I am now commission only. The product line and items I am selling are put it this way, virtually impossible to sell over the phone. I have sold one over the last 5 months (with my boss who is the President had said that he can sell to 9/10 people that he calls, hasn't happened yet and he hasn't sold one). Problem is, this position is a lot of account management, which is pretty much myself working for free if things aren't being sold. I am afraid that if I request my walking papers to file for umemployment, they will deny, any suggestions? Another young marketing guru bites the dust Can't wait to get a normal job

I am writing a referral cover letter for a marketing position at a restaurant in Illinois, My girlfriend's old boss is the referral, how would one word this on the letter? I know it's true but to me it sounds weird to say "my girlfriend's old boss" referred me. Her old boss had a major position at this restaurant at one point and is still very close with many people there, any suggestions? I read that you usually should put how you are connected to your referral in these!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) I have done a bit of the same, comparing Vegas, SoCal, Portland, Seattle, SF, etc. SF was the most expensive of any of them. I've received some offers to work in SoCal, and just recently, Portland. I'll just write up a hypothetical for you... Vegas - make $85k SoCal - $115k Portland - $120k Seattle - $100k SF - $135k Due to cost of living, at least in my calculations, I was actually better off staying here in Vegas than going anywhere else. And it wasn't really anywhere close. I just bought an 1800 sq ft home that was entirely finished (polished concrete floors, commercial stove and fridge, modern frosted glass cabinetry, nice sized lot, etc) for $134,500. I'm a mile off the Strip and a mile from Downtown Vegas. I couldn't sniff a home anywhere near that quality for that price in any of those other cities. I looked fairly seriously at the SoCal offer, and anything decent was at least $400-500k. In Portland, you're looking at $300-400k. In Seattle, the same. In SF, probably $500-600k. So I definitely understand your predicament. You will always be able to find something and make due though. And your earning potential in places like SF and Seattle are almost unlimited...more importantly, your potential to find a career you would never find in most other places is far greater. Now that's how you get yourself a 1800 square foot home in Las Vegas

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) I think Forte is vastly overrated, but I think he's worth more than a 15-25 pick first rounder. IDK if I am missing something or if this is referring to everybody wanting Forte to get his big contract but I can't think of 3 guys in the NFL who have done more with less like Forte. -

Is anyone familiar with any Marketing Recruiters or Headhunters aside from the large ones you may find on a Google search (Paladin, PrincetonOne, etc.)? Much appreciated if so!

Had a phone interview as an event and meeting planner for a major corporation downtown, went over the basics, why their company, why I'm a good fit, explain a day in your workplace, just basics really. Just got a call for a second phone interview, anyone ever have TWO "phonies"? If so, is this going to be more of my skills and whatnot? Any insight is well appreciated!

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) 2. I went with 1, my team is stacked but i have started out 0-3, can't afford to not have Colston for 3 more weeks. Need to win now

Which one of these sounds better...I need a running back, I have elite receivers and have an oppurtunity to pick up Chris Johnson well under his potential 1) I get Chris Johnson and Dwayne Bowe for DeAngelo Williams and Roddy White 2) I get Chris Johnson and Marques Colston for Hakeem Nicks and DeAngelo Williams I am definitely leaning to #1, just hoping Nicks has a year just like last for me

I am getting a little nervous, at my current job (which I have been looking for another for about a month now because they are just really messed up to sum it up) I just got an appointment with a large chain of stores that would give me a VERY substantial bonus (as in all of my debt would be gone, school, car, etc.) at the end of September in 3 weeks. But I am in talks with 2 other companies that are looking to hire immediately (salary would be more but I would not be getting a bonus like the possibility of the one that may be coming up - although I would rather be working for these other 2 prospects because my skills will be utilized much better) leading to me putting in a 2 weeks notice. I am nervous because if this appointment goes great, which I think it will, I will be set for a while, but... A. Will they give me problems and pay me if I put in a notice before or after this chain agrees to purchase? B. I may be risking a chance with the other 2 companies that I would rather be working for I have been trying to weigh my options for about a week now because I know an answer from these 2 will be coming shortly...anyone else ever been in a situation like this? Everyone that has college debt, etc. can probably see where I am coming from, if you have a chance to get everything paid for, it's a huge relief.
