  1. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) I just do not see anyway he gets placed on the 40 man roster and called up this year. I might have missed something, wasn't there a rumor (I thought ended up being true) that the deal was Sale would be called up by September?
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) The Bulls "low-balled" Raja Bell too, apparently. In other news, Ronnie Brewer will be a Bull if Redick is matched. ESPN says that Brewer really wants to come here. yep, that can be seen here http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/news/story?id=5383699
  3. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) Heh that was me. I did quite like the Beasley trade, but the dumping of Jefferson for 2 1st rounders and this signing has lost me completely. I think he thought that he could trade Sessions to Charlotte also, that ain't happening now that they signed Livingston I'd imagine. LOL yeah it seemed like the writing was on wall for Al Jeff for a while now, it'll be interesting to see if Beasley can do anything without a superstar around him now
  4. Who was telling me in this thread awhile back that David Kahn has made better moves lately? That's 4 PG's, unless Sessions gets dealt http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/38243622/ns/...ts-player_news/
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) At this age more into the lounge scene. Alot of the clubs in Vegas are part super-club, part-lounge. An AWESOME place is XS in the Encore, most expensive club ever built and half of it is outside around the pool, that is a must check out. Pure and Tao are overall the most popular, but at Pure, if you want to sit down you'll most likely have to get bottle service. At Tao, you can head up to Tao Beach (above the club) and sneak into a chair. Voodoo Lounge has the best view of Vegas (top of the Rio, sort of like Ghostbar and Moon/Playboy Club is at the Palms.) Picture of XS, this picture is inside and the pool is outside http://www.mrlarios.com/newstoday/Blog062909/xs.jpg
  6. Mendenhall may be a tough choice too because of Ben and the offensive line problems, but may be worth the 13th round pick
  7. Who would everyone keep out of these guys? I have numerous ways I can go such as Favre (if he comes back, of course) and Heath Miller getting rid of only my 15 and 17 picks. Or do I go for Steve Smith and Mendenhall who also have pretty good value (chance to be elite value this year) at 12/13. I originally thought I would keep Stewart and Mendenhall but did not realize I drafted Stewart that high until yesterday. This team gave me a hard time, even though my lineup still seemed pretty decent overall. Favre/Palmer at QB, A-Pete, Barber (bust), Stewart, Mendenhall at RB, Calvin, Marshall, Steve Smith, Edwards, Meachem, Crabtree, Breaston at WR, Heath and Gates at TE, Eagles D and ended up with both Folk and Kaeding. Oh well, what does everyone think just basing it off of the below list? 4) J. Stewart 5) A. Gates 6. B Marshall 7 B Edwards 8 C Palmer 10 EAGLES D 11 S Breaston 12 S Smith (NYG) 13 R Mendenhall 14 N Kaeding 15 B Favre 16 N Folk 17 H Miller
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 01:02 AM) The dude makes like $15,000,000.00 a year. Do you realize that is $41,000 a DAY? I doubt they are too concerned about his hotel room. It more than that, upwards of $41,100
  9. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) I linked to this like 30 pages ago, but no one probably read it because no one wants to realize that Darko isn't actually awful (and neither is his deal). Centers with comparable ages, PER and contracts: Krstic is on a 3yr, $15.8 mil contract. Zaza is on a 4yr, $19 mil contract. Biedrins is on a 6yr, $62 mil contract Ty is on a 6yr, $64 mil contract Hollins is on a 3yr, $7 mil contract. Remind me again how his deal is bad? Courtesy of CanisHoopus. There were no other options at center available, so we picked up Darko for market value. He's a 7 footer with decent defense that's still just 25. There's nothing at all wrong with that contract, and I'm getting tired of people bashing it just because Darko is forever associated with being a bust. Isn't that amazing, seems like he's been around longer than LBJ, to me at least
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) Which bars do you recommend in Vegas? The wife and I will be there for a weekend in September. I've always liked Ghostbar. Isn't Ghostbar more of a Lounge/Club (at least the one in Chicago is) - I've never been to the one in Vegas I can give you the best clubs to go to there, personally, I'm not too into going to many bars there (at least for the WHOLE night.)
  11. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Purdue. For football games they have a tradition called breakfast club where everyone is in costume and gets to the bars at 7 am. Early in the season is great cause the girls wear very little Thanks God in the pictures I saw of my girlfriend there, she was dressed as the Tea Cup from Beauty and the Beast LOL
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) Anybody see these lineups yet? AL 1. Ichiro RF 2. Jeter SS (He doesn't really deserve to be in the game, let alone hitting second...) 3. Cabrera 1B 4. Hamilton CF (Ichiro should be playing center, Hamilton's D is meh) 5. Guerrero DH 6. Longoria 3B 7. Mauer C 8. Cano 2B (A bit low for him, he's one of the best hitters in this lineup) 9. Crawford LF (Should be higher, his bat is getting wasted down here while Jeter's getting more PAs) SP. Price (Where's Cliff Lee?) NL 1. Ramirez SS 2. Prado 2B 3. Pujols 1B 4. Howard DH (Votto gets snubbed twice, he should be DHing) 5. Wright 3B 6. Braun LF 7. Ethier CF (LMAO, Ethier can't even play right field, how can he play center? This should be Marlon Byrd's spot, Corey Hart shouldn't be starting). 8. Hart RF 9. Molina C (I feel bad for Miguel Olivo) SP. Jimenez I seriously thought Charlie Manuel was smarter than this, his lineup, along with Ethier in center field just makes it look like the NL wants to lose. Good thing this won't be the setup all game. I don't know if you mean that the lineups were screwed up by the fans or not but Corey Hart is 2nd in homers and first in RBI's, why shouldn't he be starting? I don't really have a problem with Cliff Lee not starting, he has been in a prolific pitcher's park all year and David Price has done a hell of a job in the toughest division in baseball
  13. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) It's pretty funny that Big Z is 26 for 62 from 3-pt range the last 2 years. He made a total of 5 3-pt FG his previous 10 years. I think he's pretty worthless for most teams, but he's massive so he fits with the Heat. It's pretty bad because now he may get booed pretty bad in his return to Cleveland as well, he's put in a lot of time there
  14. A must-see (dunno if it was mentioned) is Drugs, Inc on National Geographic. The Heroin one that debuted last night was ridiculous, about half of it was dedicated to Heroin in Chicago. The Cocaine episode showed quite a bit of Chicago as well, good stuff. I don't think anyone would want to try Heroin after they see how it is made in Afghanistan
  15. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) That's a lineup that will win a lot of regular season games but their front court will get eaten alive. I don't know if anything has changed, I thought I originally read that Riley wanted LBJ to be the point guard
  16. The Map Room, ridiculous amounts of beer
  17. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) That bar across the street is probably Kelly's Pub. Not a huge beer selection but they have Guinness and they've been in business since the year Prohibition was repealed, so it gets high marks from me. Or State (depending on what he means by across the street), although I have never been in there and do not know if it a "collegey" place. I despise college bars
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) In other words, he is the Nate McLouth of basketball defense. I forgot who it was (I have to look for it), someone posted some metric where LBJ was 4th best defender and Wade was 5th, it was kind of a weird metric where the top 25 on the list were pretty much the top 25 offensive players in the league. It is within the last 10 pages, take a look for it it is pretty interesting. I did agree with you that Wade is a gambler looking pretty at some points and foolish at others. James still seems like a player who is not good on the ball but flying around off of it and swatting shots. This does not make you a good defender Got it: http://www.basketballprospectus.com/articl...p?articleid=918 Not quite sure what to think about it, he does say that playing time has a large effect on it (it looks like the majority of these players were up there in minutes per game average in the league) and that it is not the "be all, end all" of defensive metrics. Just shocked to see a player such as Hedo on it?
  19. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) Wade and LeBron have turned themselves into very good defenders. They will have the defensive advantage at SG and SF on most teams they play outside of LA. Mike Miller is a fantastic shooter and good rebounder as well off the bench. With Bosh, LeBron, Wade, Mike Miller, and Joel Anthony, rebounding won't be an issue unless someone like Oden, Howard, Noah, Gasol etc are roaming the paint. As for shooting, you have Miller, LeBron, Chalmers, and potential FA's like Bell, Stackhouse, Richardson, Jason Williams, Keyon Dooling etc. This team will win 60+ games, but will have struggles with Orlando's style, Boston's defense, and the Lakers/Blazers frontline. However, the Heat must sign a defensive PG like Dooling. Having LeBron or Wade guard PG's like Rose and Rondo is just stupid and a waste. They have gotten a little better but are NOT very good, everyone thinks LBJ is good because he has highlight real blocks when it all reality, he is below average on the ball. Wade is a gambler and can look like a defensive stopper at some points and just look like a fool at others.
  20. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) I saw that analysis before...and I agree completely. I think the Heat will obliterate the Bulls win record this season. It's bizarre how people are underrating just how great this team will be. The Tribune's round-up of basketball writers had only one out of five predicting a championship for the Heat next season. That's crazy. I think the Heat will be historically good. Personally, I don't think it will happen. The team is looking like if it does have any depth that it won't be good depth. The chances of all 3 playing 82 games (as stated in another post from someone forecasting) is slim to no f'ing chance with the minutes it looks like they will be playing. The Bulls had great players but also had outstanding depth and a ridiculous defense which the Heat will not have But hey, that's just me
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Why would the Orioles trade their best player again? White Sox scouts in attendance for Nolasco vs Haren last night http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/MLB-lat...rom-July-070110
  22. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) No, an all-star is not an all-star. There's a very big difference between someone like Chris Bosh that's a potential starter in the game and someone that barely makes the roster because he is an injury replacement (Williams) or plays a very weak position (Ilgauskas). His first five years in the league, Ilgauskas was his best supporting player (besides Boozer in Lebron's rookie season). That stinks. His team won 50 games and made the finals with a starting lineup of chucker supreme Larry Hughes, Sasha Pavlovic, Drew Gooden and Ilgauskas. That's an extremely light group of talent. The last two years have been a bit better, but Williams is hardly a superstar and he had Jamison for less than a season. There's a reason that they still lost to Orlando last year even though he averaged 38-8-8 on the series: if he doesn't do something spectacular on a regular basis that team isn't going to win. Your right, there is a big difference, but there are ELITE players and there are Good to very good players. There are very few elite players and there are very many good to very good players, either way you look at it, there are going to be some good to very good players on the all star roster. This would mean that they are an all-star, injury fill-in or not. So if Mo Williams makes the all-star team, that means he was in consideration to be on the all-star team all along, just missed it by a player or two depending on who the bench players are. I am not arguing that Mo Williams is this great player and saying that James has had amazing help, all I am saying is James has had some good players at his side at various times in his career who have been all-stars at some point while others are saying he has had no NO HELP. This is not true
  23. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) You can't stay in Cleveland and finish your business. Bosh wanted no part of playing in Cleveland. Boozer stabbed Cleveland in the back at the first chance he could find. It's not like LeBron was drafted into a FA destination location. He had to be moved to a different location for a championship, as not even Michael could win a title without another HOF player on the roster. This stuff is hilariously overblown. LeBron needed a star like Wade on the roster for a title, just like MJ needed Scottie, Kobe needed Pau, Robinson needed Duncan, etc etc. If Bosh would have agreed to Cleveland, none of this would have ever happened. The only legitimate gripe people should have is the horrendous 1 hour spectacle last night. That was just awful in every sense of the word. That's what happens when you have a childhood friend running your business. Everyone that says this is missing the point, LeBron has stated that he wanted to be the greatest to ever play and he is fully capable of that. You do not join a team with your 2 all-star buddies if you want to show how great you are. MJ didn't have the starting cast as they kept losing over and over again in 1990, but when he was a free agent he STAYED with the Bulls to finish the business. LBJ had a part in each of the Cavs decisions, he knows it, everyone knows it - they never said no to him. He should have stayed and got it done I don't mean this direct to you but I have heard others say he cannot get it done there, he is LeBron James and should be able to get who he wants to come there, 8 or 9 times out of 10 to win a title
  24. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Because he had Jamison for only 25 games plus the playoffs and Mo Williams was only an All-Star because he was an injury replacement after there was an uproar that "there had to be two Cavs on the roster since they had the best record." Mo Williams isn't an All-Star caliber player any more than Luol Deng is. Ilgauskas is decent, but has career averages of 14-8 and probably wouldn't be near the roster if he were a PF rather than a C. Just putting an "All-Star" game appearance or two next to a guy's name doesn't mean that they suddenly get a lot better. Remember that when the Cavs are struggling to crack the 30 win threshold this year. I never said that made them better, Mo Williams actually put up better numbers before he had come to Cleveland and joined the All-Star team. An all-star is an all-star, you can't say that Z wouldn't have made the team if a Center was a different position, that makes no sense. I never said these players were amazing, but he has had a better supporting cast than what he is given credit for. He has had the decent supporting cast and all of the role players, the grindy Anderson Varajeo's, the three point shooter Daniel Gibson, the high flyer Jamario Moon. He just didn't get it done and gave up on it now, I am pretty sure he has had a big hand in the players they have gotten and he has helped decide who to go out and get. He should have stayed and finished the business
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) past their prime, but good point. that helps my argument. 2 of them are now past there prime, but Z was on the Cavs with LeBron in his prime and Jamison and Mo Williams have recently been on the Allstar Team so I never understood why people say he didn't have "anyone"
