. That was awesome, but this should be in the sportsbar.

Leskanic would be a very good pickup. Affeldt would be nice too but kc won't trade him.
-
Two games in the loss column also. Let me be the first in this thread to congratulate carlos on 27 in a row. When he was going bad I was all over him. I also started a couple threads about trading him, I'm very happy to eat my crow now. WAY TO GO CARLOS

If you wouldn't mind, that'd be great. Thanks a lot.

Exactly, it's not a fantasy list, it's a very reasonable list. But we're young so we know nothing.
-
Once again money is a huge player in this issue. JR won't just shell out as much money as steinbrennar. I've stated numerous times that I hate it but thats the way it is. You guys keep telling us we're to young to understand but you guys seem to be the ones not looking at the money aspect and you have to when it comes to baseball and especially with the sox and the self imposed budget.
-
Ok tex. There is a lot of good pitching out there in the offseason. Besides maggs salary you have jose and koch probably coming off the books for 11 million but much of that 11 million is going to other players for pay raises. Add loaiza to the resign list and I believe shoney has an option. So look at it like this if maggs resigns your most likely losing shoney or esty. Ok so now the sox have 3 starting pitchers, then they most likely throw neal in the rotation. Now you have to throw more young kids in the bullpen which your obviously real against. Resigning maggs for 14 mill just isn't smart for this franchise.
-
We know that but it's not going to change. JR has his budget and is going to have his budget. If the sox had infinite amount of money to spend then go ahead and keep maggs. I love maggs but his numbers don't equal a 14 million dollar a year contract especially when your on a jr type budget. I've also stated I hate the restriction jr puts on kenny but thats the way it is and thats the way it's going to be. It sucks that the sox are on a budget but they are and because of that it just isn't smart to spend 14 million on one player. You win with pitching and there is some damn good fa's this coming offseason. I've said this plenty of times but the offensive core is there.... willie, uribe, frank, carlos, pk, olivo. Add pitching depth with that 14 million instead of paying one player that much.
-
I'm talking about the economics of baseball. He keeps saying I know nothing because I'm younger then him.... I guess because I'm young I'm completely wrong. If what you said is what tex is trying to say just sign maggs no matter what it takes on a budget that's not understanding the situation and the ability of this franchise to spend money....correct?
-
That's great yasny but the sox don't have an infinite amount of money we aren't the yankees. 14 Million dollars spent on one player that doesn't put up numbers to earn 14 million on a 65 million dollar payroll is stupid. cwsguy406 and I have already stated that we'd love to have maggs back and that having a self imposed budget sucks. But with that budget you CAN'T pay one player 14 million dollars you end up with to many holes on the team such as no 5th starter or only a couple of reliable relief pitchers. Then texsox comes back and says we don't understand business and baseball because we're young. If he's trying to say forget jr's budget and just sign maggs then he's obviously the one who doesn't understand this game. The sox have a good offensive core maggs or no maggs and I think they're proving that right now. Pitching wins and if you have a 14 million dollar right fielder it's hard to fill every pitching hole.
-
Damaso is getting there. He's pitched well of late, yesterday I believe if he was left in he would have got out of that inning without letting up a run, if politte wasn't brought in. Another starting pitcher is definitely the biggest need on this team right now but another reliever is up there also.
-
Are you just going to keep bashing us because we're younger then you? That's great that you've lived longer then me. So because of that anything I say is wrong. I know the history of this franchise but that has nothing to do with my point. Just an example here but would you trade maggs for freddy garcia, jeremy reed, scott williamson, and urbina? Like I said that is just an example but that might be what you could get for maggs money.

That's awesome. I'm going the 26th and 27th. First time I'm going to sox-cubs I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be in section 101. We should definitely meet up somewhere for the game on the 27th.

All the sigs around here are awesome so I thought I'd ask for one. I'm looking for a sig with shingo and damaso in it, with either the chicago skyline or the cell in the backround and then it says on the sig stud relievers or something along those lines. Thanks in advance.
-
Exactly what I was thinking of. Snab one of thoses starters and then a closer. Do that and you probably still have a descent amount of money to spend elsewhere. You improve the rotation alot. You improve the bullpen alot. You still have a very solid lineup. That's much better then keeping the lineup what it is now and having gaping holes in the pitching staff.
-
It does suck that we can't expand on this team. But the way reinsdorf is set in his budget this is the best way to go.
-
You guys have missed the whole point of my argument. You add 3 quality players to replace one player that isn't worth the money he is asking for. Don't tell me I don't understand the economics of baseball because that's a huge issue with everything. The white sox can't afford to spend 14 million on one player with the self imposed budget that they have. The sox already have a great offensive core in place for next year, pitching they don't. Add 2 pitchers and a position player or maybe 3 pitchers. With the sox self imposed budget it just isn't smart to take up a quarter of your payroll on one player where there is depth in the organization. Say what you want about prospects but reed and borchard are eventually going to get their opportunity and plug one of them in right field and fill holes elsewhere with the money. I never said trade maggs for a 3rd starter I said trade maggs in the lineup for reed or borchard and 3 quality pitchers or 2 quality pitchers and a position player.
-
Yeah, sorry about that. Look what happens when school is out. :banghead
-
You've got to be kidding me. First off garcia isn't a number 5 starter, he's at worst a great number 3 starter depending on who you ask. You add a very good starter and plug two more wholes and you'd still rather have one player. Nobody likes how ownership is here but deal with it because that's how its going to be. Reinsdorf isn't steinbrenner if he was then you sign maggs for 14 mill but with the budget on this franchise you can't have one player take up that much of your salary, especially a position player. There is a good offensive core in place for next year, right now I can't exactly say the same about the pitching staff. The sox have buehrle and garland signed for next year. I believe shoney has an option and loaiza is a fa. Use the 14 million to sign pitching. The sox farm system is stacked with outfielders, losing a 14 million dollar outfielder and putting a kid in there who will already be surrounded by a good core, you could put reed or jb down in the lineup and see how they produce, while adding much more pitching depth.
-
I would love to do that some day also. That would be amazing.
-
To add on to that, with the way this sox team is set up I think thats the way to go. Next year, the sox have frank, carlos, pk, olivo, willie, uribe and hopefully crede will pick it up and be a big part of this core also. Anways what I'm saying is no matter what happens with maggs you still have a pretty darn good offensive core back for next year. You can afford to put borchard or reed in right field and maybe the other in center. Then put that 14 million towards pitching, pick up garcia or maybe resign him if he's traded here. Pick up a reliable closer and pick up another relief pitcher. Plus koch and jose gone, resign loaiza and then you keep a darn good rotation in tact. Add two quality arms to a bullpen that will most likely have damaso, shingo, adkins and cotts already there. All of the sudden you have a great rotation and a pretty darn good bullpen with a very solid lineup, you have a very solid team.
-
Obviously, that's Mark Prior.
-
Yeah, I went on Weds when I was in Boston. It was pretty cool but nothing beats a game at uscf when watching our sox. I love watching all baseball but its not the same when you go to a game and your not watching the white sox.
-
Tex this is what I mean when I say maggs isn't worth 14 million. With that money the sox could maybe go out and sign garcia and maybe 2 other quality players. Maybe one of them being a closer. So you fill 3 wholes with 14 million, instead of playing one player that much money when your better off filling other wholes.

What the hell do you want ozzie to do about contract talks?
