I honestly just don't understand the logic of it. This team could be bad in 6 years, they could have a new owner in 6 years, I have no idea and nobody else does either. What I do know is that they're a legit division contender this season who is going to be in a battle all year to win the thing. Those extra games could absolutely be the difference between making the playoffs and not. Put your best damn team on the field from day 1 and don't worry about the service time bullshit.

Giolito says there hasn't been talks on an extension
Rowand44 replied to maxjusttyped's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd assume this is the case. -
This roster is better than last year's, there's absolutely no doubt about that. But just because it's a better roster doesn't mean they're going to be better than last year's squad. I think some people tend to forget that last season was only a 60 game season where the team pretty much fell apart at the end. Was that just a bad stretch or did they over achieve for a month and a half? I have no idea. I also don't think you can just say hey Vaughn will be better than EE was while saying Hendricks is better than Colome(which he is), while ignoring the fact that he probably won't be better this year than Colome was as a closer for the Sox last season. Look, I'm extremely excited for this season as well and I respect everyone who just wants to enjoy it for what it is but that doesn't mean I'm just going to forget and be pleased with the shortcomings of management here.

Andrew Vaughn Article - 3B/OF and Opening Day considerations
Rowand44 replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That'd be a huge problem if Rick is afraid to trade away a guy because the Tatis deal was botched. I don't think that's the case but if it is, not good. It was a debacle. Every single statistic that was available would tell you Shields was regressing big time and that he was basically done. Obviously Tatis has ended up about 8 billion times better than anyone could have possibly imagined but trading anybody with any talent for Shields at that point was an awful, awful idea. -
Only JR knew of new TLR DUI upon interview and hire
Rowand44 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You know what else has gotten old? Having people complain about Sox fans that are still mad about this whole fiasco. Let people follow their favorite team the way they want to. If it's annoying you that people continue to be frustrated when more details continue to come out then you can just ignore those people. Same idea. -
Basically anytime Rick opens his mouth since the Machado disaster.

Not sure if this is going to be Tony’s lineup but it’d be mine.

Giolito Working on a New Pitch..."The Downer"

Can't wait in a few years when Gio is throwing a knuckler and the frisbee. -
Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox
Rowand44 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sure but none of them will know who Lucroy is. -
Yup. They’re paying Carlos and Rey a combined 5 mill to compete for that 5th spot. They’re not bringing anyone of substance on at this point, not in the rotation.
-
In general I really wouldn’t care about this but this absolutely means they’re done adding to the pitching staff(outside of minor league deals) and I couldn’t hate that more. Rey and Rodon combined are going to make a whole 3 mill less than Q. Just throwing that out there.

As a supposed World Series contender this is what we’re looking at. Good stuff.
-
Have we given Katz a raise yet? Cause good luck buddy.

Lulz. I’m wrong again.

The Arenado to the Cards thing is a rumor that happens basically every year and never materializes. Highly, highly doubt something comes of it.

Great defender these days too.
-
Not a single person here said Joc is marginally worse than Adam against LHP. It just doesn't matter to most because neither should be playing against lefties.
-
As you've stated the Sox already mash left handed pitching though. Does having a guy that can sometimes possibly play against left handed pitching matter like at all? If Adam was still a great defender than obviously this is a different story but he's not. Like I said, imo the Sox just messed this one up.
-
Eaton doesn't hit lefties decent. He sucks less than Joc does but he's still not good against them. Engel should be in rf against lefties whether we had Eaton or Joc.
-
Joc was just a better overall fit for this team. I'm not going to be pretend I'm furious about this but it's annoying. The Sox offense while obviously very good last season was middle of the pack in OPS and wRC+ against RHP, Joc just so happens to kill right handed pitching and will probably be a better defensive right fielder than Adam in 2021 as well. The fact that he signed for cheaper is just annoying like I said. Would have been a real nice fit for this team. Oh well I guess.

Ya this was a misstep by Rick. Not much else more to it.
-
Cocky is good for a lot of professional athletes but I don't think he sounded cocky at all in that interview. Just saying it's doable and he believes in himself. If he didn't that'd be a much bigger issue.

Good for Nick. Love the confidence.

Keith Law's Top 100, 2 White Sox make the list
Rowand44 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in FutureSox Board
Ya the Law hates the White Sox thing has been debunked plenty of times. The dude just happens to have a different criteria than most.
