QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) I hope they do trade for Avi but Bader and O'Neill give them potential long term solutions that are younger, cheaper, under longer control and both are showing their power this year. If the Cards really believe they can compete for a WC spot, then Avi makes sense so I guess it comes down to how the cards feel about their chances this year. If I were the cards, I'd hold my prospects and shoot for '18 but that's only because I don't think they can get a WC spot this year. The Brewers threw a kink in that plan. I don't disagree with any of this. They're at a bit of a crossroads as a franchise right now where they're not really sure what the hell they should be doing. Because of that it'll definitely be interesting to see what route they take.

When is rock bottom of the rebuild: 2017 or 2018?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) To me, rock bottom already hit sometime in the 2015-2016 seasons. Absolutely. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) This year has been a blast. Next year...will not be a blast. Eh you'll get to watch Rey and Gio and Yoan on a regular basis. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) The Cards are 3 games under .500, 4.5 games out of first and in fourth place of a division they will be lucky to finish third in. After looking at it that way, I no longer believe the cards would trade for Avi. Hope I'm wrong. They're looking to find a bat they can plug in long term. Whether Avi counts as a big bat or long term idk but I do know they're looking to deal for someone like that. I hear it every day on the radio down here from our good friend Chris Rongey.

You have some pretty outrageous reasoning as to why you're so mad about this but I'm not going to change your mind so I'm not going to waste my time.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) This seems like an odd criticism, I just looked up the top 10 ranked SS prospects right now and the only ones who have played more than a handful of games at positions other than SS is Mateo and Rodgers. Everyone knew Anderson was super raw and needed a lot of development time at short when he came out college. So of course the best way to develop him at short would have been to get him reps at a bunch of other positions...
-
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) And you're missing the point. Nowhere did I mention a dollar amount. What makes the Anderson extension a bad one is that they did not allow him to play long enough to be sure enough that he is a good player to give him a contract. Sale, Q, & Eaton all PROVED their caliber over several seasons; TA only played part of one season prior to his gift. That aside, they've done him no favors in developing him. His scant pre-professional background & lack of having played anything other than SS means that he'll either make it as a starter, or be a waste of money. There is no option to make him a utility player, because he's never played anywhere else but SS. (Not his fault, so much as it was the fault of Capra & other morons in the org.) I mean, the dollar amount is absolutely the point. You can b**** about it as much as you want but the fact is it's not going to hurt the Sox at all going forward and it absolutely could benefit them greatly.

SEA trades Tyler O'Neill to STL for Marco Gonzales
Rowand44 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What's the reason Seattle would have soured on Tyler? His numbers seem decent enough every stop. -
Spicey no!

We have 2 or 3 legit prospects pitching daily it seems. Amazing.

I'm excited for Brock to be gone as well. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) I believe he's played a good deal of LF this year. Not as much as you'd think. That's why it's nice to see him out there now.

7/20 Games (Giolito, Kopech, Dunning)

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 09:50 PM) How many innings Kopecki will throw this season? 100? 110? Already at 92 after tonight. 110 maybe? That's just me throwing s*** out there. I'm guessing him and Cease get shut down semi soon. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) Still waiting to hear anyone not affiliated with the Sox say that Collins looks better on defense. In a recent chat, KLaw said he has heard absolutely nothing about Collins improving There's numbers that back up his improvement as well. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) I've seen you mention the passing on him twice thing a few times now...I know we passed on him once in the draft, but what is the second time you are referring to? Sounds like he was the main piece that they were offering in a proposed Q deal as well but the Sox wanted the Eloy package instead. Obviously there's a ton more that goes into all that, just funny how things work out.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Ultimately, that is what I conceded yesterday. If they really believe in him, fabulous. They obviously do this for a living, while I sit on the couch. One minor gripe: It is IRRELEVANT that the White Sox paid very little for Tommy Kahnle. That has absolutely nothing to do with his market value. The White Sox paid an immense price for Gordon Beckham, and yet his market value was very little (despite them getting a decent little prospect back for him from the Angels). It works both ways. Completely agree here. It's a fun exercise to do stuff like that but it has absolutely nothing to do with the current deal.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Jason Martinez of MLB trade rumors had this to say about the trade... "Rutherford is a top 25-40 prospect in baseball. They got him for a reliever with a few very good months, a rental in Frazier and shed Robertson's entire salary. I love this deal for the Sox" Tommy Kahnle is a top 10 reliever in baseball this year, Robertson is a proven closer and Frazier hit 40 homeruns last year, they got all 3 of these guys because the Sox wanted a guy with a .733 ops in low A ball this year. Oversimplifying stuff is fun(this isn't a shot at you steven, it's just an easy thing to do). Like wite said, this can go either way, just depends how you feel about it. I said it earlier but it is funny to me that the guy the Sox coveted so much is one they've seemingly passed on twice in the last year. Not a shot at him at all, it's just crazy how things work out.

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) It factors into the players we bring in. The top guys will more likely fill needs in trades. I don't think Rick was looking to acquire shortstops because of Tim. We may bring in secondary guys but nothing with high potential. I really don't think that's true.
-
I find Raven super cute but she's also a super weirdo.

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) This is true but I don't want to pass up talent at that position because we have Anderson like organizations do. Anderson hasn't proved his worth yet so we should probably be cautious about giving him an unchallenged role. I don't think we're going to pass up on talent at any position. Rick has just been accumulating the best talent he can.
