Because at the end if the season they don't care about Garcias performance. It's the star players that need to be ready at the end if the season and playoffs. Besides it's the mental break even more than physical.
Leury started all 4 playoff games last year. Tony absolutely cares about Leury's performance and will plan to play him a ton in the playoffs if we get there. He's throwing him out there because he thinks he's much better than he is, not the reason you're giving.

Vaughn is trade bait
Good way to get his trade value up is to constantly sit him on the bench.

Guess who made out the line up card for that game in 1979.
HAHAHAHAHHAHA. Ok, that's just funny.

I'm no Hahn apologist as I have my issues with him for sure but at this point I really do wonder how much his hands are tied with some things.

Hahn would probably get fired but he needs to find a way to get rid of Leury. This shit isn't going to stop.
Also, I've said it a bunch before but Stone is still an awesome broadcaster but he's the biggest asshat on Twitter.
Anywho, go win despite your idiot manager boys!

Here is how I look at it.
- It's a very long season and it just started. Like any season, there will be large ups and downs. While it seems doubtful the Sox are ever fully healthy, they will certainly be stretches where they are more healthy than they are now, and they will be much better for it.
- Like last season, they are 100% going to have to overcome some of the decisions of leadership. It is what many of us feared last offseason and it has absolutely come true.
- Just like it was clear this offseason, it's incredibly obvious they simply didn't take the needed steps to actually improve this team. Yes, the core is very good. They will win plenty of games. But the Blue Jays have a very good roster. The Astros have a very good roster. The Rays have a very good roster. The Dodgers have a very good roster. We should expect and demand the best roster possible, and they simply failed in that regard. I don't know how you can argue against that.
I still think the Sox win this division. Might end up closer than people originally thought, but they'll get fat this summer. But more importantly...who cares? I don't care about winning a division. No one should.
Summed up perfectly.

Does TLR think AV is Leury and Leury is AV? The way he handles those two guys is beyond mind boggling.

Yea, I addressed the top two seed thing in my next post. But if you’re being honest, do you really think the Sox beat the Astros last season even with home field advantage? Personally, I think we would have seen the exact same outcome of Astros in 4.
The Astros were the better team for sure but the Sox were sooooo much better at home that things possibly could have possibly been different. Look, you saying that HFA doesn't matter and just bringing up the top seeds last year just isn't fair. The Giants were virtually the same team at home and away and the Rays were just a tad better at home. The Sox were 13 games better at home last year compared to the road, that type of stuff clearly mattered to that team. Will it matter this year? I obviously don't know but it certainly could.

Home field advantage matters so much in mlb that both the top seeds were bounced in the first round last year. Home field is overrated in MLB postseason play. This isn’t the NBA or NFL.

Regarding Rodon, it’s one thing to be pitching in October. It’s another thing altogether to be pitching effectively come October. I don’t like his odds of both pitching and pitching effectively come October. That’s just me though.
The Sox were much better at home last year(and I'm sure that'll be the case this year too) and with the top 2 teams having a bye this year that stuff matters a lot this season.

3 quick, clean innings in a row for Kopech. Nice to see him settle in after not having the best control through the first 2.

Leury is a frustrating player but I dont think he deserves the hate he gets.
Honestly, I like Leury. I like him as a utility guy. He does get streaky where you can use him a decent amount in stretches as well. The hate comes from the fact he isn’t close to an every day starter and gets used like one. It’s not his fault how TLR uses him but it’s frustrating as fuck.

First game of the year for this guy tonight. Can't wait to get back to the park!
I was at Game 4 of the ALDS last year so if the season ends tonight that's on me.

I would not include Sheets in any package for Montas. Sheets looked to be in great shape (from my perspective in RF yesterday) and seemed faster than he was last season as he tracked down a couple of fly balls including some that he had to run down a long way.
Sheets doeskin get the hype that Vaughn does but he could end up being just as valuable to this team.
He doesn't get the hype because he's no where near the prospect that Vaughn is. I like Gavin but if he's a main piece in a trade for a good starting pitcher I'm all about it.

Calling our situation a "disaster" is comical if you put things in perspective.
The team isn’t a disaster because of the great core in place but this off-season has absolutely been a disaster, it’s pretty easy to separate the two.

Thing is, even if he is good you're getting good for 50-70 innings and furthermore the value of those innings depends quite a bit on the starting rotation and offense. It doesn't matter how good he is if he's entering a 3-5 ballgame in the 7th more often than not. It's just a stupid way to spend money, FFS.
Oh I completely agree that’s why I said if you look at the signing just by itself. If I knew he was going to be a part of only adding relievers and utility guys then ya it changes the story on all of this which is obviously happening right now.

Jose Ruiz has about as much of a track record of success as a reliever as Graveman.
Pretty much. I don’t hate the Graveman signing when looking at it just on its own but wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s bad this season. We’ll see.

Seems clear as the days go on that they were not anticipating this offseason, seemingly had no backup plan when their original intentions didn't materialize and are going to attempt to "add" at around the deadline. Which may end up working, seeing as the AL Central shouldn't be that big of a buzzsaw. But it still doesn't excuse what has taken place the last 8 months.
Don’t disagree with you on their mindset but the division thing is a terrible way to look at things this year(it always is but especially this year) with the way the playoffs are set up. Getting a top 2 seed is too important to be like meh we’ll upgrade at the deadline cause our division sucks and we’ll probably get in anyways.

Conforto's 3 year ZiPS projection
2022: 2.4 WAR
2023: 2.5 WAR
2024: 2 WAR
I'm gonna assume 2025 is gonna be sub-2 WAR.
So in all, you're getting around 9 WAR the next 4 years. If the asking price really is 4 years and $88 million, I can see why the Sox would be hesitant. But that does not excuse how they've mis-allocated funds so far this off-season.Honestly, this window is like 3 years right now, if the 4th year of that contract sucked so be it. I know that’s not how the Sox are looking at things and I know we want to have a sustained run but this is where we’re at right now imo.

White Sox vs Guardians GT 4/21/22
in 2022 Season in Review

No. He started him over Cesar twice and Engel twice. Can argue starting him over Cesar but the point is he's always going to find a way to get Leury in there. He's not playing Leury because he thinks his starters need rest, he's playing him because he thinks he is a starter.
