I loved the Vaughn pick, and the thought of trading him away makes me sick to my stomach. But I think there's a rational argument to be made that the best thing for his development would be playing every day in Charlotte and not having to face a level of pitching he might not be ready to have success against yet.

And I could not disagree with this more.  He’d just destroy the IL and facing inferior pitching is going to do nothing for his development.

Yeah, I'm just not on board with Sheets taking away big league at bats from Vaughn. I just see no world where Sheets is more important to this teams future than Vaughn. I could be wrong, but I think the Sox caught lightening in a bottle with Sheets last year and expecting him to be a productive MLB DH is just too much imo. Vaughn ceiling as an offensive player is just so much higher, and wasting MLB at-bats on Sheets everyday instead of Vaughn would be a mistake imo.

    Completely agree with all this.

Your argument might as well be close my eyes and ignore reality.  Vaughn & Sheets were epically bad in RF last year.  Could they get better?  Possibly, but they will never be good out there.  And to be clear, you expect them to provide a wRC+ over 133?  Because that’s what Conforto put up from 2017 to 2020 when healthy.

Not to mention we’re already throwing Eloy out there in left.  If we had a gg lf to go along with Robert then maybe we can try some goofy defensive experiment in right field, maybe.

As far as the op, ya no shit Gavin Sheets and Andrew Vaughn are better offensive players than Adam Eaton and Nomar Mazara.  It’s always good when trying to win the WS to compare your right fielders to 2 of the worst out there.  Perfect sense.

This was always the fear with Hahn that he doesn't have the balls to make the big move to put the team over the top.  It's easy to make a bad team average or an average team good but it's extremely difficult to make a good team great.  Hahn seems happy to improve in the margins rather than dropping his dick on the table to make this team great.  There's still a chance he does something but the longer this drags on the less optimistic I get.

You still confident that Kimbrel is getting dealt or where is your head at there?

Its not even a platoon tho.  If you're going to platoon Leury with someone, get a guy like Brad Miller who compliments Leury.  Leury should play against LHP, and while Harrison's splits are relatively even, its not like he excels against RHP. Puzzling.

Exactly.  Man, the more I think about it the more it's starting to irk me that they didn't look at Miller if they were going to go this bargain route.  He's hit righties so freaking well for a while now and plays a solid 2b.  Very annoying.

It’s sad how much of a yes man Stone has become. He used to provide insightful analysis, all he does now is protect Jerry’s checkbook.

He’s still great on tv.  He’s absolutely brutal on Twitter.  He’s a yes man and he’s a condescending jackass on social media.

Well, you'd think with one of the, what, five most iconic players in the city of Chicago over the last decade that there would be SOME noise?

Like a lot of people alluded to in here, this signing is ok if we get a big bat for RF. Because honestly, you don't need a huge bat in the 9th spot. If Harrison can play solid enough defense at 2B and give you a wRC+ close to 100, that's good enough. If they go out and get a Castellanos or Conforto type to stabilize the middle of the order, it doesn't really matter who hits 9th.

    Yup, I agree.

The way you phrase it is “we are happy with the guys we have, we think guys like him will fill big roles for us this year, but I know Rick Hahn is always going to be open if he has a way to improve the team”.

Or…and I can’t stress this enough…who the hell cares.  What he says means absolutely nothing as to whether Kimbrel is on the roster or not.

I expected them to be non-committal. Something like "we'll see" or a non-answer answer.

"Yes" sounds like  they can't move him.

Everything coming out of Sox camp signals no major FA signings or trades. Maybe someone like Pineda or Smyly.

You have to stop taking what the GM and manager say as gospel.  These guys lie and lawyer speak to the media.  It’s what they do.

As almost everyone has said, we’re all going to be pissed off if they cheap out this off-season or if they did indeed misjudge the Kimbrel market(entirely possible) but you really need to stop overreacting to shit that Rick or TLR say, it means absolutely nothing.

I mean what’s he supposed to say? The dude is on the roster until he isn’t. He’s not going to say “well, yah…Kimbrel is gone fellas. Just a matter of time until Rick makes a deal.” Just not gonna happen.

Hey Tony, even though Craig is standing 15 feet away from you do you expect him to be gone in the next week?

Ya man, get this bum out of my sight.
