QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) And this is the exact downside to "blow it up". If it fails, we are talking years more of problems. True, we could have just kept going down the road of the last decade of excellence. Tons of downside here.

I don't worry about his numbers but his velocity is something to worry about. That said, lets see what happens when he's in Charlotte, maybe he's just been trying to work on some things in the spring. It's obviously not time to panic with him but I think it's fair to at least wonder what's going on with his fastball.

That game was freakin bonkers.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 08:05 AM) It's really all about the Options situation with Davidson not having any and Delmonico having them. It's that simple. But if Davidson flops, Delmonico probably comes up (outside chance it could be Hayes instead). Here's a prospect profile on Delmonico by the way, for those who don't know some of the strange back story with him. Delmonico's defense doesn't have to be above average, but he's got to be at least MLB-playable. And if he can do that at 1B, 3B and corner OF, he suddenly becomes appealing as a utility player (and DH) you can plug in 5 days a week with some offensive potential. He's a guy that makes sense to start in the minors anyways to at least try him at a corner of spot for a while. Like I said before, who knows with this guy but I'm definitely intrigued.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 07:40 AM) Give him reps in LF and see how he responds. No harm in trying. Definitely.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) Small sample size today, but he passed the eye test in-person today. Good at bats and he had quick hands on that HR (crushed it). The AB where he raked that double was nice. If he could play defense, we'd be on to something. I don't know if he'll hit good enough to be a DH. First time I've seen him swing a bat but his actual swing is gorgeous. I'm not going to say he's going to be a major league regular but I'm intrigued.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) Massive choke job by Arizona. Just absolutely horrendous basketball down the stretch of that game. They didn't have a single good possession in the last 3 minutes of the game. Trier was phenomenal most of the 2nd half but went into hero ball mode down the stretch. Anywho...fun school match up in the e8 here, hoping the Zags break through.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) Sounds like back to the last five years. You're just being intentionally hard headed.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Six up six down for #WhiteSox lefty Jose Quintana, who draws a crowd whenever he pitches. https://t.co/AbNOfA9Gju https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/845010900775944193 Got some hats going on there in that picture.

I don't give a damn about anything in Spring Training but Q is the coolest.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Meh... it's an inside picture of a kid getting accustomed to responsibility and culture. Won't be a big deal IMO.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) I am very, very confident Robert ends up with the Sox regardless of which signing period he ends up falling into. He is a special talent that would fit in nicely with our second wave of prospects (Kopech, Hansen, Dunning, Collins, Basabe, Call, Fisher, etc.) & would be a huge PR win for the front office as we progress deeper into the rebuild. I won't go as far as you but I'm definitely confident that they'll be a player in this either way.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) I mean this is how the rebuild looks so far. 1. Get tons of pitching potential 2. Get a couple of offensive players 3? 4. Playoffs. Bastardizing an old GM quote.. the pieces are not in place, yet. Sure we can still trade for guys in the future, but that only pushes the timeline out further, just like I said. Even if we end up with the #1 pick in the 2017 and 2018 drafts, when do you think those guys will be ready to play? When do you think they will be contributors? Even if the draft class we just had turns out great, when will they be ready? This franchise just has way too many holes today for this to happen quickly. Sure the holes can be filled, but not instantly. I haven't seen one person mention the 2017 or 2018 draft picks when it comes to being ready to compete in 2019. Nobody knows the timeline of these guys(except you apparently) but there's a chance they have an elite rotation in 2019 and if that's the case they're going to be adding offense through free agency. Not to mention they've already acquired 3 guys via trade in the offseason who are pretty much ready to play so if you don't think they're going to acquire some more guys who can play by 2019 then you're just being ridiculous. Like I said, I don't freakin know what's going to happen between now and then but the possibility to be competitive in 2019 is definitely there.
-
Mike, by 2019 our rotation could conceivably be the best in all of baseball. Do I honestly think that's going to happen? Of course not but all of these guys outside of Kopech are going to have at least a year of major league experience under their belt and should be ready to make a jump to where we hope their potential will be. If that's the case we have a s*** ton of money to play with to put guys around Anderson, Moncada and Collins(just using these 3 as the young core offensive players) and that's not including other guys that can be added to that offensive core through the trades of Q or Jones or Abreu or whatever. Like I said, I'm definitely not saying this is going to happen but to say there's no chance is just you continuing to s*** on what's happened so far.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Three seasons as in 2019? No way. Not a chance. There isn't enough talent here yet for that. 2020 is when the window opens IMO. If Matain takes 5 or even 6 seasons to get here, that puts him right smack in the middle of things in 2021 or 22. He won't be on the front end, but he would be right in the middle of the revival, if it works. There's definitely a chance. Depending on how you see some of these guys it might not be the likeliest of scenarios but to say there's not a chance just isn't right.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) I think the Braves step up and make it happen. Would be a huge splash moving into their new stadium. Albies/Acuna/Fried/A. Jackson/lottery ticket Thing is I don't think Q is a "splash" the way you're looking at it. Despite him being an incredible pitcher, he's not exactly a guy that's going to sell tickets at the moment.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) I don't want Hawk to announce games anymore. I hope the Sox lose 100 games. I don't want to see Moncada, Giolito, Fulmer, or Lopez until late May at the earliest. I think your post is about me haha. Welcome to the "Greg hates the type of sports fan we are"club. It's a great place to be.

Shack told me he has a feeling something is going to happen at 3:46 mountain time tomorrow. Stay tuned.

For the record I don't think Jordan would have killed anybody, I was just pointing out the fact that bringing in Pippen in 87 is a tad bit different than bringing TMac in during the late 90's run.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) Yeah, he killed Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. Those guys might have turned out OK. This is almost the exact same situation as a TMac situation would have been.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) With no Giolito/Moncada level headliner, I'd say we'd need to get Martes, Tucker, Fisher + There's definitely people/sites out there that have Martes above Gio at this point. Not saying I agree or disagree but there are experts out there who are super high on Martes.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) FFFFFFUUUUUUUU- Legit took me a few seconds to understand why you were FU'ing that. I GET IT NOW

Tucker and Martes seems to be a good and fair start for both teams. Who knows if anything comes of it.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) It is really just about giving batters a different look. I understand the idea behind it. I was just wondering if there is any evidence out there that this actually makes a difference because I'm betting it doesn't. -

Is there any evidence out there that says throwing 3 lefties in a row matters at all? Or is it just one of those weird baseball things that people think matters?
