  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...ynes-ON-CR.html With Eric Byrnes signing a 3 yr deal, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic believes Quentin will be traded--and was being shopped. Instead of signing Dye to an expensive, 3 yr deal, Quentin would look nice on the south side, and would seem a great fit--He's got power, patience, can hit for avg, and play a decent RF. The question is, what would the sox have to give up? The sox and Arizona have matched up for a few deals, as both GM's seem to work well together. Pitching would seem to be what the DBacks would need. And the sox have quantity, if not quality. Here's a scouting report from 2005. http://diamondbacks.scout.com/2/342031.html Thoughts? He will be up for grabs. It is a shame that he didn't have the surgery back in March. I believe that is his main problem resulting in his bad numbers this year but that is the risk he took by not fixing it right away.
  2. This was a deal that work out good for both teams: Here in Arizona we got rid of a pitcher whom made it clear that he wouldn't pitch here plus filled a big hole in our organization, The Sox's got a proven starter which you can never have enough of, and Javy was closer to home. A win-win deal all the way around.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 05:40 AM) I haven't seen the text of the law (anyone have it?), but that really does seem like a stretch of logic, especially since the crash could more directly be attributed to the actions of the helicopter pilots. Proximity of cause falls outside the chase, it would seem. But depending on the nature of the new law, that could really throw a wrench in there. By the way, someone mentioned air traffic control. Helicopters flying close to ground like that aren't directed by ATC - they fly on their own using the VFR equipment on hand. ATC is likely aware of their presence in the general area, but ATC isn't telling the choppers where to go. Yes I would like to see the actual written law myself. Personally he is already got enough charges against him to send him away until he is 70 so why add on like this.
  4. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 01:37 AM) That's crap. If you want to use butterfly effect you could say Bush killed everyone on 9/11 for not responding to the warning signs. It's a stretch and I don't want to get into the politics of it, but the point is the same. This is more direct, but it's the helicopters' faults they got in a crash. It's awful that people died, but that would be a horrific injustice if they guy was charged for the murders of people he had no direct contact with. The only problem is that this law is so vague. The law says that any police, media, and or pedestrian in a chase that is killed the person responsible for starting the chase can be held responsible. The law in principle is good but I believe the design was for people on the ground that were killed, I could be wrong but I don't believe so.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 12:46 AM) If i was the jury I would have a hard time convicting this guy for the deaths from the helicopters, especially since it wasnt police helicopter that was involved in a high speed chase when it happened but 2 news helicopters. If Thomas goes through on this (I hope he doesn't) the defense needs to motion for a change of venue. Here in Phoenix he would stand no chance of being found not guilty. These news guys were considered family and there is a lot of hatred for the guy accused.
  6. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) Interesting, I disagree with that new law. I like the law in principle. I don't think it was designed with this in mind, most likely for civilian or media bystanders that are killed in the chase. Right now however this is the furthest thing on his mind because from the reports the dogs tore him up pretty bad and then the officers used some sort of weapon that stings worse than a "major league Fastball".
  7. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) Why should the guy in the chase be charged for the helicopter deaths? The way the police interpret the new law; the copters were trying keeping the public safe and informed about the chase and if it wasn't for this high speed chase this accident wouldn't have happen. The law is very vague it reads that anyone killed while in the commission of the chase (police, media, civilians). The police are holding him for these deaths and Andrew Thomas (DA) said he will file an indictment.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) 2 news copters collide. 3 dead. http://www.kpho.com/news/13770817/detail.html The helicopters were chasing a police chase and from what I have heard down here is the Channel 15 copter veered to close to the channel 3 copter. The guy in chase barricaded himself inside a house and police sent the dogs in and they took him down. The guy in this chase according to the police will be charged with 4 counts of homicide in the deaths of the crews. What an amazing job by the pilots before hitting the ground of steering the copters out of harm's way of the people on the ground. This crash occurred real close to Chase Field which is in downtown and a huge population area.
  9. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) vasquez will not go back to AZ. He has a limtied no trade and AZ is not on the list. He hated AZ And it goes both ways, He will not be welcomed back into Phoenix The hatred for him in Phoenix is still at a very high level.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 07:49 AM) People here seem to be in one of two camps: the hearings are good/necessary, or Congress hasn't done anything good since about their 2nd month. Can I take option C - all of the above? Yes I totally agree, Everything is covered in partisan BS. And it is not just one side it is both. It seems like nothing can be accomplished these days because one party is favor of the bill so the other party has to be against it no matter how much good it would do for the country so the bill fails. Like the show I watched tonight Man of the Year if someone comes along that is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in, he would win in a landslide. Right now I have as much respect for Democratic leadership as I do for Bush which is none
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) It said he is unhappy in Arizona... why is that? Because of the way Moorad and Kendrick handle the team. They have completly snubbed him in contract talks. He has said he likes AZ and would like to stay here but KENCO seem to have their minds set on him leaving.
  12. I had to watch it live... The best part of the game was him watching and admiring Miguel Montero GWHR in the 10th. I think it was priceless watching him stand in the box while he was being recorded as the final out.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 07:47 AM) Yes...yes...yes. I hope they can get someone to come into Tuscon's park and than I can start seeing the Sox play in the Phoenix area and never have to make that drive to Tuscon again. And Tucson now is a mess... All exits in Tucson are closed and will be that way for 3 years. With the Sidewinders leaving (after '08) I think Baseball in Tucson is done for good.
  14. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...624beck-ON.html Died in his Phoenix home and was alone. Doesn't look like foul play.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) You break the law in our country, you get sentenced the same way. Not different like Michael Fay getting caned or that dude in the Midnight Express. BHAM, are you talking about Arpairo? Yeah, I believe that is him they didn't say who in the paper. But I guess it is DA Andrew Thomas that makes the decision
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) A van full of the little bastards cut Jim off 3 years ago and because Jim hit them it was his fault, despite NINE witness accounts. Just under $20K and 8 months later they were out of our lives. Here in Phoenix we had a incident were an illegal seen an undercover cop who was looking for drug dealers. The illegal assumed the officer was after him, back into the officer's car sent it into incoming traffic into the path of a car that had a mother of 2 driving she was killed on the scene. The stupid sheriff out here thinks we should deport him because Jail would be too good for him.
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) Ahh, how humorous it would be if KW were to get Chris Young back in a Buehrle deal... The great Chris Young could come to the rescue- he of the .281 OBP and .715 OPS. He'd fit in wonderfully with this club! It would be something, not sure how it would go over here in Phoenix with his 3 walk offs this season he has a huge following. Looking at the stats but I was stunned to see he would have the 3rd best avg amongst the full timers and be 2nd in homers on the sox's squad becuase I don't think CY has been that great with the bat this year (although his d has been real impressive).
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) You have got to love the fact that the 2 main suitors for Buehrle are the Mets and Braves and for Dye it's the Dodgers, Padres and D-Backs. Pitting rivals against each other is always fun. The D-backs according to EV tribune here in Phoenix are now more interested in Buehrle. Johnson has a back injury, Doug Davis + Livan Hernandez in the rotation, and finally our number #3 Starter while being great this season is still a rookie. In the last week our rotation has went from solid to full of ???.
  19. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) Apparently Buster Olney wrote an article today mentioning the DBacks as a good trading partner for Dye. He suggested players such as Alberto Callaspo (who was mentioned before), Mark Reynolds, and Scott Hairston. As we know, the DBacks are extremely stacked with young players, so they would be an intriguing possibility. While I personally have little interest in Callaspo and Hairston, Mark Reynolds is a very solid looking young player. Olney also mentions Micah Owings, who would be an excellent addition, but is probably asking a bit too much. I don't have Insider, but here is the link to the reference to the article on mlbtraderumors.com: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ What does everyone think about a possible deal with the Diamondbacks? We do need another bat, what would it take for us to get Dye?
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) That's what I'm worried about with him, which was why I thought the trade was a little suprising. Anything else you can tell us about him BHAM (since you're really the only one who's seen him play), in terms of will he ever be starting second baseman in the majors? Well from what I saw of him 30 games he is a guy who has potential. He was a MUCH better hitter at Tucson Electric than on the road I believe the split is 60 points. Sometimes his attitude is called into question with some times appearing that he doesn't have his head in the game with stupid defensive mistakes, taking ridiculous looking swings, and getting picked off. He is his best when he is hitting the ball on the ground or hitting line drives (7 of his 8 HR's were liners). It is when he takes those huge uppercut swings, trying to hit those homers that get him in trouble. He needs to keep it simple if he does, he could be a huge impact player in the majors.
  21. He will HAVE to improve his defense, his head in rear plays will not be tolerated in the major leagues. He had 13 errors which is a high number.
  22. Watched Danny a lot in Tucson this year. He has decent power (hit a 3 run triple last night). He has below average defense and makes a lot of stupid error's which is real frusterating. He also a very streaky hitter which can be good or bad, right now he is on a hot streak.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Same one, just without the giveaway sponsor logos. Take a look at one up close and tell me what you think. I designed it. Well I still have mine on my baseball display, A great job on designing it by the way (not sure I already told you or not.) Nothing like Rickwood the thing I miss most about Bama. I still have my 2005 Rickwood photos some where I will see if I can dig them up.
  24. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) Neither of the two shown in this thread compare to a Wally Backman tirade a few years ago when he was managing the Barons. At the time I posted full details of it, but cannot access the search function to go back and try and find the original post. In a nutshell, it consisted of all the normal yelling and screaming at multiple umpires, including stopping and then turning around and starting again. Then he kicked three baseballs sitting on home plate (the batboy had brought them out but the umpire was busy, so he sat them down) like kicking a FG. Then he threw about 20 bats out of the dugout, two chairs, a few helmets, the gum and seeds bucket and two powerade coolers. It seemed like it took about 10 minutes for him to throw everything. He'd throw something, yell from the dugout and as soon as you thought he was done, something else would come flying out of the dugout. The funny thing that no one knew about at the time was that when he was done, he smiled at pitching coach Juan Nieves, said "it's all yours" and laughed as he headed into the tunnel toward the clubhouse. I wish it was caught on video because it was absolutely priceless. I remember that. I believe it was 2003 I still love the FG's and remember saying that it's good! I had no idea about the smile to Juan that would have made it even more fun for me. How many games did he get for that I knew it was at least 5.
