QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) Tom what did you think of Pie getting hit in the head Friday night? I didn't think it was that bad as far as beanings go. He never lost motion until the trainers told him to lay still. Yeah, he was in pain, but he was able to get back up and stay in the game. Anytime someone gets hit in the head it is dangerous, but I didn't think this one was that bad, relatively speaking..... side note: I will likely be there Sunday. It was a curve that didn't break no intent at all. I heard people say he was out but it didn't look like it. Corwin was trying to throw the same pitch he K'ed Pie on in the 1st. I will be in Section E Row 6 Seat 12 tomorrow so stop by if you can Tom

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) damn the cubs team seems a bit stacked doesnt it... thats not good... future sox killers.... also that felix pie looks to be a gamer by staying in the game even after being beamed in the head. Prospects of Pie in CF McGee at 3rd Murton in RF. Great pitchers in Nolasco, Hill

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Man, it's sad to see Kris fall this far. I forgot to make this comment in yesterdays games thread but it looks like Corwin is doing the complete opposite of Honel, I had Corwin basically written off and he's coming on strong, I hope he can keep it up. Two pitchers going in opposite directions Malone is getting stronger per game throwing around 90 yesterday. Honel hit 82 once. I also heard that Malone is really working hard in hid return and Honel hasn't shown that extra effort malone has shown

West Tenn 4 Barons 1 W-Searles L-Honel What a game one the Barons should have won again. 3 times from the 9th inning we had runners at 3rd and only 1 out and could not score. Honel comes off the DL and if he pitches like that needs to head right back on it. Honel still hits only 82 on the gun gave up 3 hits 2 walks in 2 innings but great catches by Sweeney and Blakely saved him futher embrasment. The other 5 pitchers Phillips, Meaux, Pollok,Reynoso,Jenks were outstanding. Sweeney had 3 hits tonight but failed with a runner at 3rd 1 out and poped out. Outstanding Infield Defense tonight. Sean Tracey on the hill tomorrow with no bullpen behind him unless there is a call up from Winston as Reynoso's 3rd Straight game Meaux threw 40 pitches, Jenks 2 days in a row and a lot of pitches, Pollok 2 innings 38 pitches LaMura threw 3 innings yesterday and with all of the walks and K's had a heavy PC. So it is Tracey against the SL best pitcher and K Leader with a no-hitter already on his belt.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 21, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) not sure on this but according to northsidebaseball.com game over Barons lose in the 15th... Felix Pie drove in the winning RBI barely missing a grandslam. Yes he did and in fact I had Grand Slam in the score book already then look up and sweeney take it back but it would matter little as Kris (ugh) Honel gave up the next 2 runs on a double
-
QUOTE(minorsfan @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) Blakley hit a double and moved over to third on Stewart bunt. And with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th with the score tied and a chance to win he gets picked off third. UGH!!!! Was it a great move by the pitch or baseruning error ??? Its hard to tell by listening to the West Tenn radio guy.... he was screaming YEAH ( a little biased of course). Extras C It was a pick play which Blakely would have had a better chance diving back into 3rd It would have been a bang bang play but he had no shot coming home

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 20, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) I gotta defend Stewart here a bit...... The squeeze play should have been made, but it was not easy. Stewart had to quickly come out from behind the plate, not knowing how far it is going to go forward. The ball was playable, but he is facing CF and can't see how close the runner is at the time. Everything gets hurried on a squeeze play. Pitchers often make errors trying to rush a toss back to the catcher. The play should have been made, but it was not as easy as it may have looked. I think he made the right play on Sweeney's throw. The throw was short and he had to take a step forward to catch it. I do not think he would have been able to catch it moving forward and then turn around and make the play on a runner sliding toward the backside of the plate. He saw the play in front of him and was smart enough to make the easy out on the runner. Stewart did look a little rough tonight. But there was another "bad throw" he made that seemed to be more of confusion over who was covering 2B. Neither the 2B or SS got to the bag. It wasn't a great throw but proper coverage would have saved him there. Jenks pitched like s***, from the very beginning. He was all over the place and had no idea where the ball was going. His delivery was inconsistent. Stewart could have bailed him out by making the squeeze play, but Jenks just wasn't good. He imploded after that play and it got ugly quickly. I was a little hard on Stewart I should have written that today Jenks is how it all started leadoff walk is a pitching sin. And Razor was outclassed by Bobby Dickerson the fake bunt then hit and run the Squeeze and the stolen base. Did anyone noitce but Cortesio's K zone changed a lot in the late innings.

The Squeeze was changed to the 3rd error on Chris Stewart all in one inning

Kanny- Delmarva in the 18th inning from Field Crest Cannon Stadium

] QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ May 20, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Malone drilled Felix Pie in the head with a pitch tonight. Down and motionless for a while yet stayed in the game. That was an ugly hit and Pie should have been taken out you could tell he was in Tons of pain attachmentid=3640

QUOTE(JimH @ May 20, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) 7-3 West Tenn going into bottom of 9. A disaster. Jenks was wild but Stewart appeared to have his head up his ass. Will wait for the report from someone who saw this mess in person. I really though Chris Stewart changed into a D-Jaxx uniform he might as well first it started with the K of Pie that was a very blockable ball that allowed a run to score then the Squeeze I mean when the ball is right at your chest 6 inches from the plate and the runner is still 20 feet away I expect that he makes the play or lets it go foul then on a failed hit and run where the runner is dead to rights he throws the ball into CF and then for Iceing Sweeney's throw beats the last runner to the plate all he has to do is apply the tag instead he fires to second for a run down allowing another run to score. Nothing like giving the best team in the SL a 10th man on the field. Jenks I don't blame as much considering the defense fell apart maybe one run should have scored but that was it

QUOTE(danman31 @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) I think I remember BHAM telling us about an earlier incident with a female ump and that it got in the way of the game. Sad that it's happening again. Yes this goes back to April we she made a couple of calls that made me wonder how she graduated ump school. a Flyball off the wall called homerun and a runner called safe and tagged up even though he was touching homeplate when the catch was made. Then Tonight she missed the call at the plate Owens made a great reach around touched the plate was called out then the whole pinch hitter mess which is the second time that has happened.

Charlotte @ Ottawa BMAC on the hill West Tennessee @ Birmingham Malone on the hill Kinston @ Winston-Salem Delmarva @ Kannapolis The Barons face the Best team in the SL and in West Tenn which is a battle of Sox's Cubs southern league style. Facing side-winder Jye-Ryu a very tough pitcher which Barons really struggled with on May 3rd. And a very tough lineup i still believe if Felix Pie will be challenging Patterson for the CF Job soon. I have seen both players and Pie is the better player. Power to all fields, Very good batting eye great, leadoff hitter, tons of speed and a very good bunter a fine player the Barons will have there work cut out for them.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 20, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) 50 K's in 160 official ABs. Ouch! A lot of his K's were early in the year he did K 4 times on Wensday but before that was doing a lot better

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ May 19, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) 18.1 innings and 5 hits now. I watched him for an inning yesterday and I think the Lynx touched him for 1 foul ball. That was the best they could do. The speed gun beside me registered 89 MPH at his tops. I don't know how this compares with past performances. I was surprised. It looked like he was throwing harder. I remeber doing the gun for him a little last season and he hit 91-93 but there is so many differnet variables involved.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 18, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) I'm worrying about Fields and Young. I know it's early, but I'd really like to see both of them control the strikezone a little better (read: strike out less). The Barons will need all of their offense this weekend we are facing three very tough pitchers this weekend the Cubs AA team is very stacked as well. Corey Patterson better watch out Felix Pie is on the charge I believe he is a better CF than Patterson.

I know it's early, but I'd really like to see both of them control the strikezone a little better (read: strike out less). But, I'm liking what I'm seeing from Owens/Sweeney/Rogo/Jenks. Keep up the good work at Birmy, fellas! And Tom (that is your name, correct?), keep up the great work with the reports. Awesome job, it looks like you get to see one helluva team (prospect-wise) in Birmingham this season. Keep it up! Everyone appreciates it... Thanks I like to be able to give a first hand account becuase boxscores can be misleading Thanks Tom

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 18, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Do you keep up with the white sox BHAM or just a fan of the AA team? If you do keep up with the sox does Owens remind you of Podsenick? Because it would be sick to have a younger Podsenick on the way up. The White Sox's were my first love I use to live in Iowa City which is a 180 mile trip across I-80. And luck would have it that I moved to BHAM where the Barons are. I keep up with the Sox's all the time. I think Owens is a Pods clone not much power sprays the ball very quick and good base stealer.

Barons 6 Mississippi 4 W-Lubisich (5-3) L-Basner (0-5) Sv-Jenks (10) Good hitting up and down the line up tonight. Jerry Owens was key in drawing the first run with a walk then stole both 2nd and 3rd base with Sweeney getting the run home. Sweeney in the 6th lead off with a single then Rogo hit a rocket to the pitcher who fired late to second. Josh Fields laid down a sac bunt then after an intentional walk Aceves drilled a 2 run single. Nik Lubisich was outstanding tonight keeping the Braves off balanced. Ulcia Worked a scorless inning and Ryan Sweeney had the Defensive play of the season robbing Brian McCann of a game tying homer in the 8th. Bobby Jenks overwhelmed the 3 young Mississippi hitters in the 9th first batter was Onil Joseph who took 2 curves for strikes then swung and missed at 98 MPH fastball. The next batter Luis Hernandez was the complete opposite to Fastballs for strikes then Missed the curve. Josh Fields is now 0-17 and 3 for the last 31. Chris Young looked awful on some good breaking balls Struck out 3 times. Corwin Malone on the Mound as the Barons take on the best team in the SL West Tennesse Diamondjacks the Chicago Flubs team this weekend.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 18, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) Does Chris Young still have that really long swing.... because if he does he reminds me of another Crede/Borchard in the making. He is making adjustments and I have seen noticeable improvments. Still is a dead pull hitter which could hurt him later on he needs to be able to hit the other way just to keep the defense honest but his swing looks better and the thing with Chris is he has awsome speed and won't slump for long periods of time in the last 2 weeks Young has only K'd 5 times twice looking but he no longer leads the team in Strike outs Tom

QUOTE(Randar68 @ May 17, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) Because of his agility, height, and left-handedness, the day he was drafted I made a few posts about thinking his future could be at first base, where, IMO, he'd have gold glove potential. Now, Fields could move there if they want to keep Crede, or they could deal a couple OF'ers making it a less-crowded scenario, but it was just a suggestion, and one I still believe to this day. It's something that is brought up from time to time, nothing concrete. I don't know if he's ever played 1st base in HS or if the organization has ever considered it. Might be a good question for Dave Wilder. I know for sure he was a Pitcher as well an RF when he played for Xavier in Cedar Rapids, IA I remeber him a little from when I used to live in Iowa
