Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
BHAMBARONS replied to southsideirish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) What stadium does that? Bank One Ball Park in Phoenix -
Jacksonville 15 Barons 8 W-Hull L-Pacheco Pacheco 2.2 IP 5H 6R 3BB 2K's Hull 5IP 7H 4R BB 6K's Barons Box Good-Hitting was good Young and Owens had solid games 3 Hit games Rogoswski had a 4 hit game Blakely hit a long homerun. Bad-Pitching Pacheco, Pollok, Glenn all were awful Just to watch Pollok pitch one would have to buy a bottle of rolaids just to get through the outing. Team looked like it gave up tonight after Ria Cortesio made some calls that make me wonder how she even graduated Umpiring School. Notes- Razor Shines was tossed from his first game as a Baron but he had to take a stand for his Team as Cortesio carried a grude from yesterday's game in to tonight and that is totally unexceptable. Barons leave for Montgomery tomorrow for a weekend set with first place Biscuits

Charlotte (1-12) @ Toledo Jacksonville @ Birmingham (9-3) Potomac @ Winston-Salem (6-7) Hickory @ Kannapolis (8-6)

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Josh Fields stole a base? How is his speed... was it a fluke or does he actually have some moderate speed? The Throw wasn't perfect but yes he showed some speed and man what an arm he is amazing making throws 3rd basemen shouln't be able to make
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) Hey, bham how has Jenks looked?? Just by his stats it seems like he's been pretty good after his first outing. Yes- he looks great no really hard hit balls sometimes his control goes away from him but never for more than one batter during an outing. Jenks made a game saving play today on a bunt by speedy Todd Donavon with the second out today

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Holy cripes...98 dang. The best thing about Sean is his rubber arm and mentality. He has absolutely zero fear of pitching inside. What I liked about his outing was in the 2nd he had a runner on 3rd one out and powerful hitter up at bat and he kept creaping in until he was all over the plate he used the 0-2 pitch to knock him down and then he hit 98 with a high and away fastball for a swinging strike 3 Loved it.

Tracey Threw 6 Innings of 1 run ball this Morning with 7 K's. Sean Hit 98 on the gun today

BARONS 5 Jacksonville 4 W-Tracey (2-0) L- Thompson (0-1) Sv- Jenks (6) Tracey 6 IP 5H 1R 1BB 7K's Thompson 5IP 5H 5R 3BB 5K's Good- Some Great small ball today with Josh Fields getting a stolen base along with Reyes. Clutch hitting from Darren Blakely and Andy Gonzalez who is playing real well. Josh Feilds pickes up extra base hit #2 with a ringing double of the left feild wall. Sean was lights out with a slider and great change and 94-98 MPH fastball had great command today. Barons now on 7 game win streak and are 9-3 overall. Bobby Jenks closed out the 9th with a good inning of work to record save #6. Bad- Owens, Young and Gray continue to struggle I think Gray will lose his starting job to cory haggerty who is really play well having good at-bats. Notes- Game was almost decided by a blown call by 1st base umpire Rio Cortesio who for some reason ruled a ball of the top of the wall a Home-Run but lucky that Bobby Jenks came in and shut it down

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) How was his stuff? Velocity? Sounds like his command was horrible. Stuff was had good break to it when he got ahead in the count but he was behind so many hitters he couldn't use it much. Velocity Kris hit 91 with a fastball a couple of times but most of night he was in the 85-87 range. And his command was flat awful from throwing it over batters heads to 56ft pitches, Had a lot of walks (6) and had a lot of bailouts on bad pitches most likely because Jacksonville didn't have there legs yet after that long trip. He was 3-1 to 10 batters and 3-0 to 8 hitters.

I believe that play with Hunter on Sunday night baseball really got him going he has been very hard to get out after that.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) The Barons win 4-1. Bull picked up the win going 5 innings while giving up just 1 run. Barons scored all 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Josh Fields hit a total bomb (solo shot) to centerfield and then Gonzo had an RBI single and Corey Haggerty a 2 run triple. BJ Lamura had 3 shutout innings of relief (4 K's) and Reynoso picked up his 1st save of the season. Sean Tracey (1-0, 2.61 ERA) will face Derek Thompson tomorrow afternoon. a 458ft Blast to be exact. I liked the confidence of LaMura Bull was outstanding again should be earning that promtion to Charlotte soon with the way Charlotte's starters have struggled

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) I know. I was thinking he was turning the corner late last season, but I'm not sure after the sluggish start in AA. It's early, but he's not the golden boy, that's for sure. Ryan before the injury was looking better hitting into the gaps in fact he was 3 out 4. The people I would worry about the most is Jerry Owens, Chris Young these guys are not ready for this level.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) 6 walks, he was channeling The Count just for numbers wise he threw 82 pitches today (37 Strikes) (45 Balls) and was missing badly
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Honel beat Billingsley. Betcha thought that wouldn't happen. Well it was more like Jacksonville Beating Billingsley. They had 6 walks from honel and several 3-0 3-1 counts where they hit popups. Lost 2 runners on the bases and the 3 runs we got were becuase of a misplay in RF it should have been one run scoring instead of 3.
-
BARONS 3 Jacksonville 2 W-Honel (1-1) L- Billingsley (0-1) Honel 5 IP 5H 1R 6BB 3K's Billingsley 6.2 IP 4H 3R 2BB 6K's Good-Clutch Bases Loaded Triple by Jon Aceves which plated all the run the Barons would score tonight. Rogo made a awsome catch leaning into the dugout in the 1st. The Barons Bull pen with the exception of Pollok has now thrown 25 scorless innings in a row dating back to the 10th. Bad- Dwayne Pollok continues to be crushed by opposing hitters bailed out today by a great relay throw from Andy Gonzalez which cut down the tying runner at the plate. Notes- Game ended when a Jacksonville runner misread a liner that was hit by James Loney to Reyes at second Todd Donavon thought the ball bounced and went to the plate he beat the throw to the plate barely but when Chris Stewart threw to Josh Feilds at 3rd the Umpire raised his right arm siginaling the end of the ball game. Those kind of mistakes are not acceptable at AA ball when the 1st base Ump is standing 25 ft from the 1st base coach and is clearly siginaling out.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Fields had a slow start last year too.. so no worries... What is wrong with Sweeney? A sore hammy. Razor will keep him out around a week no DL is expected. This is only a precaution.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) BHam, how does Reynoso look? He seems like he's doin' well right now, but I'd like a first-hand account. And, uck -- Fields hitting in the .250's, Owens hitting at the Mendoza line, and Young hitting below it -- are those three overmatched? I know it's very early, but... Reynoso looks good I seen him the last 2 days and he has pitched 2 scorless innings has a little bit of a control issiue but he did hit 92 on the gun with a great cutter nasty on Lefty's. Feilds is more playing at the Met then being overmatched he has hit some rockets 2 hits friday's hit an absolute bomb to center feild on Saturday but he hit it to Center and while he hit 402 ft it was still 5 feet short of being a double and 12 feet from a homerun. Owens, Young are looking better Owens I really like good ball player with GREAT speed
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Good stuff as usual Bham. On a sidenote, Pacheco left the game with diziness . I didn't hear anything on Sweeney's injury so hopefully its nothing. You are right, Razor will keep him out around a week no DL as of yet. This is only a precaution.

BARONS 4 Montgomery 2 W-Lubisich (2-0) L- Lockwood (0-1) Sv-Jenks (4) Lubisich 5 IP 6H 2R 0BB 2K's Lockwood 4.2 IP 8H 3R 2BB 4K's Good- Chris Young hit a towering homerun over the light tower about 417ft shot. Rogo was 3-4 a double and 2 RBI. A great Defensive play made behind 3rd by Josh Feilds. Chris Young made an outstanding catch to rob Johnny Rayburn of a game opening triple. Corwin Malone threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings and is looking good. Bobby Jenks pickes up save #4 with an exciting 2 on 2 out battle with superstar Delwin Young Jenks Fanned him with 99 MPH Fastball. Bad-Nothing about the game just concerns about Sweeney and now Josh Feilds who left today's game. Notes Barons sweep 1st place Montgomery and now play Jacksonville in a four game series this week at the Met.

BARONS 8 Montgomery 1 W-Meaux L-Parker Pacheco 2.2 IP 7H 1R 2BB 2 K's Switzer 3.2 IP 2H 1R 2BB 2K's Good- Solid hitting continues, drawing walks, clutch hits. Chris Stewart hit a towering 3 run Home Run and continues to throw out runners and call a great game behind the plate. Rogowski Drilled a double high of the 410 sign in CF then even though I am not big on paybacks but after having both Andy Gonzalez and Josh Feilds hit by pitches; Takes out Montgomery Catcher Charoin Issenia and sent Momtgomery a message and after that Barons scored the next 7 to coast to win. Ryan Meaux was outstanding with a devasting Breaking Ball over 3 1/3 Innings Meaux K'ed 7 walked 0 and picked up the win. Willie Glen Threw 2 shoutout innings with 5 K's. Bad- Nothing except Ryan Sweeney looked like he pulled a hamstring rounding 1st with what would have been a sure Triple. Pacheco left in the 3rd with what looks like a shoulder injury. Barons look for Sweep of 1st Place Montgomery tomorrow
-
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) Just guessing but Allen was having back problems last year and he may not have gotten fully healthy. I don't think the Sox would have given up on him this soon otherwise. I don't have anything to back this up, strictly a hunch. Yes Wyatt had back problems all of last season. When Healthy he was ok not outstanding.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Villacis got rocked for Charlotte. 3 IP, 7 R. 7-0 Columbus top 4. Barons start at 7. Warthogs are up 3-2, bottom 3. Ryan Rodriguez is pitching. Kanny is in another pitchers' duel early. Adam Russell just gave up a solo HR to start the bottom of the 4th. They trail 1-0. Barons win 8-1 over MTG Barons Pitchers had 15 K's tonight. It looks like Sweeney and maybe Pacheco will on the DL Both hurt during tonights game. Sweeney hopefully only a tweek of the hampstring but Pacheco looked bad every delievery looked painful hit arond 79 in his 2 innings.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Thanks for the recap, did Young look overmatched at all outside of his HR at-bat? I'm really looking forward to a good year from him at AA, and was dissapointed in hearing he might be overmatched. His first at bat he was way overmatched, But I give him tons of credit for not getting down on himself the 2nd AB he grounded hard to third then Homered and flew out to the wall in Left his final at bat and to give a quick lesson of the Met it 345 down the lines 413 to center and the ball doesn't carry at all there, And it he done it with a broken bat hit

BARONS 8 Montgomery 7 W- Tracey (1-0) L-Autrey (1-1) Tracey 6 1/3 IP 3H 0R 2BB's 2K's Autery 5 1/3 IP 8H 8R 2BB 2K's Good- Everybody in the lineup picked up a hit tonight, 5 Double Plays turned, a great Defensive stop by Feilds who looks awsome at 3rd. Young hit a 2-0 change off the light tower in left feild. Darren Blakely had 3 RBI and a Towering Homer to right feild. Sean Tracey was awsome hitting 94 today on the gun and a great sinker to boot. Bobby Jenks came in and closed the door in the 9th with two punch outs and hit 98 on the last K to end the game. Bad- Dwayne Pollok was bad tonight fell behind hitters then threw batting pratice fastballs at the belt was hit awfuly hard his awful line tonight 2/3 inning pitched 7 Runs 6 earned Notes- other than the 8th inning which saw Montgomery go from being down 8-0 to 8-7 after only out was sicking but other than that great game.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Bham is up 5-0 through 5, with only 5 hits for the Barons. Young with another HR. Tracey so far 5 IP, 0 R, 2 K, 2 BB, 3 hits. Barons win 8-7 with outstanding save by Jenks
