Danks pitches with the bases loaded way too much. Most of time it's thanks to walks too... -

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) Interesting how the team's two weaknesses (scoring runs and bullpen) became strengths in the wake of the Peavy deal. Even if Peavy doesn't pitch for another two months, that confidence boost from Kenny may have completely changed this team's morale. It was nice, but let's have perspective, it's nice against Sergio Mitre and the like, but then let's not go over the edge if the offense struggles against Burnett/Sabathia Great to see TCQ coming back. Great bullpen work and work on the fly by Ozzie in a tough spot. Great approach from the Sox offense in general (started early when guys like AJ going oppo, looking for base hits, etc) Peace out for the night everyone! -

Nice win! I give Ozzie a lot of s*** for the way he handles pitching, but I thought he handled it great tonight (though if Jenks was available, I wouldn't have minded seeing him as a confidence booster before throwing him into a big spot) I get Kotsay is hitting the ball hard, but he better produce if Ozzie is going to keep finding time for him to play. We basically got rid of both Anderson and Fields for him, and let's not forget the Red Sox sent him (to his offseason house according to DJ), not the type of crap I'd prefer over young talent who could've used some playing time to get out of their struggles -

Towers praises Kenny as a great GM, shocked at no other interest for Peavy, especially since the injury had nothing to do with the arm/shoulder. Hopes/expects it to be a good deal for both clubs -

Kevin Towers on MLB Network now. Kenny called him this morning (I guess around noon our time), he was the first to call about Peavy, Kenny said let's get something done and here we are Richard is starting tomorrow night, Poreda and Russell going to the minors -
I was off on thinking the Peavy thing was a farce, I'm still surprised SD took this deal! QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:25 PM) While I don't doubt they texted KW, I'd be absolutely shocked if KW was serious about needing ideas. I'd also be shocked if he doesn't have about 10 balloons in the air right now. The problem is it takes 2 to tango, so while you might have the means to take on salary and might have some prospects to trade, the other guy could always say no. I read somewhere where Toronto wasn't interested in any of the White Sox prospects for Halladay. They wanted Danks and Floyd. Kenny was just on MLBNetwork, he confirmed there was one time they were completely all out of ideas and that he called them up to solicit ideas

Our pitching staff for years to come...
3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 replied to chw42's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like the move and our staff, but let's calm down. Assuming Peavy is Peavy I think it's likely his ERA will rise to the 4's going from the NL and a pitcher's park to the AL and the Cell. It also makes me wonder why SD was willing to take what I think is a weak deal twice. The offense also needs to be changed from this 'summer only' streaky crap, so let's not start talking about the 'on paper' champions or anything like that. -

QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Wow what a steal great job kenny! weird that this is basically the same trade as before :headbang It's not that weird, it's not like the Padres rejected that deal, they accepted and then Peavy cockblocked it. I thought it was a steal then and still think it is. Richard stepped up big for us, but honestly I don't think you can count on him (I wouldn't doubt it if SD saw all the praise on ESPN Sun night and all that and called the Sox back up)
