  1. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) The Sox need a big lift tomorrow from Freddy Garcia. 3-6 is bad enough against those guys, but at least it would allow us to finish the first half 30 games over .500 and at least a 10 game lead over Minnesota. I disagree, I don't think they need a big lift. Oakland games are meaningless, especially when you're about 30 games over .500. The pitching doesn't fall asleep like the offense, when you have stud pitching, it will consistently be there over the long run, so even a sweep tomorow wouldn't really bother me, it would be frustrating to watch, but it wouldn't mean much to me.
  2. If the Sox don't mess this up this kid will be a STUD. That's just nasty in one inning, and he has a change??!?! *creams himself*
  3. I heard people went to the Brewer games just to see if they could get a glimpse of this broad, so, you say attendance is up from last year?
  4. I was listening live on the Loop (who were using the MTV feed), and they cut the middle of Comfortably Numb for some stupid VJ, WTF??!?!? The host and the whole station have been pissed as I have been. Thank you AOL!
  5. when does the hockey season normally start? I heard the NHL Ice TV Package could be free next year, that would be sweettt! Im not into hockey, but that would get me into it
  6. All the steals, Dergan as his g/f, HOW DO THIS MAN'S LEGS NOT GET TIRED?!?!?!
  7. Can someone help me, I'm trying to find soxdalt.com? WSI got snubbed a little, it was a team effort, but also played a big part in this
  8. LMAO, go to the message boards at YESNETWORK.com if you want a laugh. The sad part is that they are blaming Red Sox fans as the reason Jeter is not going
  9. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) I agree with you completely about Chicago fans. Chicago is a die-hard sports town. Always has been, always will be. I think it's a stupid sports town, and I live here. Why else would a majority of the city support a losing team, only because it is the hip thing to do, when the attendants aren't even fans of the team or sport. Obviously I'm talking about the Flubs, but even if you look at the Bulls, hell I've cheered and and watched since rebuilding process day 1, and they have no business drawing what they do. Then an organization like the Sox, obviously committed to winning is here, and having something special, and the rest of Chicago doesn't care. The city is full of idiot sports fans, and I personally don't want their fair weather fans in the Cell. If Sox fans fill it up, then great, if no one goes, I still don't care, I'm enjoying this season, and that is all I have on this subject for tonight, bed time.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) I'd say as a fan of any team, it's your job to support them. Even if you were a Cubs fan I would tell you the exact same thing. It's your job as a fan to go out and support your ballclub. That's what being a fan is. Pride and chants give you that extra boost which translates into wins. That's where the phrase, "homefield advantage" comes into play. The White Sox have none of that. Well then I'd have to disagree with you. Supporting the team is one thing, buy it doesn't mean you have to go to the park. I don't think a fan that has season tickets can be labeled a better fan than the one who goes to 2 games a year because of financial reasons. And as far as homefield advantage in baseball, that would be what the Twins have, being used to playing in a dome or on their turf or whatever or taking away opposing teams hot water, stuff like that. The rest is all mental which shouldn't matter if home or away if you're a professional baseball player, imo.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) You're right.Let's have them play in an empty stadium. I don't think Sox players would care since it doesn't help them at all. I mean that extra energy and vibe you get off a packed house means nothing. I don't think Sox fans will miss it that much anyway. Players create a vibe on their own, and there have been plenty of crummy crowds, and the Sox have been winning. Bigger crowds come with better teams anyways, so there should be no worry under current circumstances with your logic. An empty stadium is quite a bit of a stretch from what I was trying to imply
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) So it is okay to attack the players or call them out, but not fans when they aren't their job of showing up to the game and supporting them live? You can chant Paulie all you want at a TV screen, but they won't hear you. You chant Paulie at a couple of games and it makes a difference. Else games would just be played in empty stadiums with just cameras around and the players playing the game. Attendace would help this team's payroll(notice as attendance has increased ever so slightly, the Sox have spent more money? Also, it gives the Sox more pride in what they're doing. How do you think they feel when they got more fans at the Angels/Sox series in Anaheim last week(LAA averaged 40,000 fans for the series) and then come home and see one game with good attendance. You would've thought the Sox were battling to stay out of last place. The players are getting paid millions of dollars to do their job, and I optionally spend money to support the team and salaries. I don't have a job to do, it's every fan's personal option whether he goes to a game or not Pride and chants don't translate into wins
  13. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) I just like the atmosphere. Sox games feel like high school football games, there's nobody there. even going to Cubs games there's a different feeling, that's why I was disappointed when I was going to go to New York for an uncle's wedding that the Yankees weren't in town. it's just something I'd like to experience, and would be great if it were to be at Comiskey. (and yes, I went to the Cubs game, last season for their last game and during June the season before. baseball's baseball, both times was free, and I was hoping the Cubs would be tied going into the last game, just so I'd be there when their hopes were crushed.) Yes, that what I was saying, it's a nice atmosphere for the fans, but I don't think it affects a team's performance (the most important thing). It obviously hasn't until this point
  14. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) Who cares? Read before you post genius. JR cares. And if JR cares, it affects who we have on our roster every year. Can I please have the quote where JR says that higher attendance will lead to a bigger payroll? TY
  15. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) you think that b****ing about Ozzie's decisions will do anything, or that if you complain enough Joe Crede will wander into traffic? by your logic, you shouldn't be posting here. Posting hear about those things is a way of venting, I see attacks on attendance as an attack on the fans and fellow posters, which is extremly lame when you don't go to the games yourself
  16. WHooooo careess, all that matters are wins and losses. This just in, players dont give 2 s***s about fans (most probably share Everett's thoughts), all care about making money, and some value winning. They don't go to Soxfest or do events because they want to, they are forced to or are payed for it and don't want to ruin their rep(exceptions might be getting good feelings for making kids happy, but I doubt they care about the 30 year old season ticket holder). Because of this, I don't think they care about attendance at all, and it doesn't affect performance (obviously to this point). The atmosphere is overrated IMO (it's better for fans of course, except that you get the idiot fair weather fans at the park who show what idiots they are. I personally like not waiting in lines and getting a nice seat selection). Why do you need help to get motivated when you're the best team in the big leagues? Oh wow, 30,000 yelling "Guch", I'm sure that will help him guess right on the breaking ball. Plus we are dealing with Uncle Jerry here, as much as I like him, I doubt a big part of extra attendance money would go into the payroll, and as it is, this team has already tried obtaining different stars, and it hasn't worked. And if he would put it in the payroll, I'd still expect raised ticket prices, which means if this team stops performing, attendance would be lower than the norm. And I also agree with the comments above, living on the West Coast is also an excuse, so quit crying. Obviously, nobody is even saying you should be going to at least 1 game, but you shouldn't tell others to do so when you don't. Other fans also live out of market, far from the market, can't afford tix, etc which would all fall under excuses, such as weather, school status, or living on the West Coast.
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ May 21, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) You forgot Poland.
  18. Haha, I love how Ozzie snubbed him on Wednesday, first the jerkoff acts like he is an all know jackass (which is why he has been offered how many managing jobs?), and then tries to greet Ozzie days later, and now his personal vendetta with the Sox will probably get bigger. Sarcasm/twit remarks during the highlight and his 'most important thing' at the end was praising the Twins. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) I don't understand how the thread starter didn't know it was sarcasm. It was that obvious. Didn't Oz say in the post game that Hermy's back was stiff ? If that is the case why does Brantley continue to take potshots at OZ ? (If we're thinking of the same comment,)The quote about Hermy and someone being sore was misplayed by ESPN Radio. Hermy was in reference of Herm Schneider, who was giving a reason for taking out Frank, I've heard that Hermanson was fine, but this is in the past, old news by now.
  19. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Can somebody give me an idea of how this game works? I looked at their web site, but I guess I still have some questions. Are these games played in real time? I mean do you watch every pitch and make in game decisions? Or do you just set your teams' tendencies and let the computer play it out. Do you and your opponant have to both be on at the same time? Do you play a game every day? How long does a game take? It looks like fun and something I would be interested in, but would need to know more about it. I had a version from years ago, but in you are in the online league, you set up everything, and everything is simmed out (it's mostly the point, it's a sim game). If you play by yourself or I guess run the sims, you could do it in real time and make the decisions. As far as online goes, here's how it worked with the league I was in. You set your lineups, staff, tendencies, etc. Export the file from the OOTP game to the league server (very simple when you see it), and then stretches were simmed out. At least 2 weeks to a month in my league (so no, you don't both have to be online, but if you don't send in your file, the computer will autogenerate all your stuff, unless you already had sent one for a past sim, and it just carrys over). I know some leagues run things differently, and this is all info from the version I had about 4 years ago
  20. I agree, coaches wear out their welcomes, lose players/teams, and one year of success cannot guarantee anything in the future (too lazy to look up his stats in Phoenix, but he got fired there, didn't he?). Great season, great turnaround, but I'd have to give a little credit to Pax and the players. I don't really care anymore though, I think coaching is a little overrated (sure it's tough, but there's plenty of people around who can do it), the one guy I wanted was Carlisle, and we couldn't make a run for him because we were oh so confident in Cartwright
  21. How does one become one? What is the usual pay, etc? Tried looking it up on the net, but only found illegal gambling promos
