  1. Did the bookie priest have anything to say? Hack.
  2. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) * Sox win between 92-97 games, win close Division race * Sox have 3 pitchers with 15 wins and 200IP * Sox have 4 players with 30 HR, team hits 200 HR again * Anderson has great ST, wins CF position and has solid year * Erstad plays better than expected and starts in LF majority of year * Vazquez finally pitches close to his potential * AJ and Hall duo really shows its effectiveness late in season * Massett and Logan fill out very effective bullpen * Sox agree with Dye, Buehrle, and Iguchi to extensions during the season * Thome has another huge April, hits 500 way sooner than expected AL Central Sox AL East Yankees AL West Angels Wild Card Red Sox At least I got a few right/close from last year: I'm hoping you are a psychic. I think we'll win over 90 games again and make the playoffs, with a good chance to win it all. I also predict another person in my section will get his face taken off by a line drive, blood will be everywhere, and the section will stink like bleach, again.
  3. My tickets are down the 1st base line, and they are supposed to be turning the seats toward home. Does anyone know if they are done, and what they look like?
  4. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) I thought he was already signed with the Cubs this week. He's their ace, no doubt. That would be a kick to see him in a Sox uniform (with AJ catching, LOL). I think he is way too expensive, multi-year or not, for KW seeing that we are in "budget" mode these days. He's signed for 2007...but not beyond.
  5. I thought rat was in the taco meat? Makes sense to me.
  6. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 08:07 AM) If Zambrano walks from the Cubs, he is looking for a contract around 5 years at $90 million. To me this guy is a top ten pitcher in the game. I know KW doesnt like to give out long term deals to pitchers, but this is a guy I would make an exception. I guess it probably depends on what happens with MB, but just a thought. Based on what Zito just got, this sounds like a great deal. I hope the s*** ass Cubs blow this one.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) I never drive anymore so I gave it up for now. With the merge I may be back on. As soon as the portable units work as well inside as they do outside, my need has really dropped off. I'm shocked. You seemed to be as big a fan of XM as I am of Sirius. Its satellite radio, I don't think the indoor reception will ever be better than AM/FM. The Sirius Stiletto is cool because you can stream music from the web, via wifi. I've used it and its pretty good. And I get reception in about 50% of my gym, and when I go to the back of the gym, I switch to the recorded content I have. anyway, you are done and I understand.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) I meant this... Oh, yeah, posting at the same time. STill I am a dog chasing his tail.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) There seems to be an echo in here... Leave us alone, we're like two dogs chasing our tails.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) I am certain there are closely held surveys that measured the exact impact he had. It certainly could be said it kept Sirius in the game. I don't think the same investment could have been made in advertising, different entertainmemt, and have as big an impact. It is interesting to think about, is the size of Stern's contract keeping SIrius from remaining independent? Kind of like A-Rod and the Rangers? All I know about the Golden Jew's ridiculous contract is that Mel Karmazin said he would do the deal again in a second, and was even interested in extending the contract.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) Sorry, I phrased that poorly. Yours are about the most optimistic regarding his impact. Let's say that XM and Sirius split those subscribers, or they don't sign up at all. That makes it Sirius with between 2.1 and 3.6 and XM between 7.1 and 8.6 million. Game set and match. So I do agree that Sterns probably kept Sirius in the game. But if he had the kind of impact you are describing, XM would not have kept pace. If the public needed Sterns to add legitimacy and to prove satellite would be around, why sign up for the competitor? How does Stern and Sirius add legitimacy to XM? I agree it shows that Sirius was willing to make a huge investment, but I fail to see how it would help add legitimacy to XM. Me saying 3 million doesn't mean its right. I say look at the subscriber numbers around the time he jumped on board, and that doesn't seem to be that big of a stretch. And Stern has been on 1 year. Again, XM has better car deals, had better equipment (pretty compatible now), and was the name. Stern brought attention to satellite, like never before, and I think more people looked into the product. Again, before this year, if you went to the store and looked at the plug and play radios, XM blew them away. Either way, this merger should make this more of a mainstream product, but a lot of people cannot get past the 'pay for radio' idea. Usually once they hear it, they feel its worth it. These days, the monthly cost is 2 lunches.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) I think he was the biggest star, on par with the sports offerings. I don't think he gave the technology legitimacy. I doubt he helped XM too much. People bought and buy sat radio for the stations they want to listen to, not to avoid someone. They could do that with Sirius and just not tune in. They bought based on price, friends recommendations, name recognition, etc. As far as the numbers leveling off, 3 million isn't a lot of people in our country, why has his audience leveled off? With the switch to satellite, his show was suppose to get better and even more popular. Well, anytime you ask people to pay for something deemed a free service, not everyone is going to follow him. More popular? Well, if they didn't have to pay, probably. And the show is better. I've listened for 10+ years and I think he's doing his best stuff now. Fan boy numbers? Good one.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) But satellite was not legit until Howard? I think XM had maybe 2 million subs, and Sirius 600,000 when he signed his deal. So you're not buying my legit comment, huh? I think that's when people realized this was a business that wasnt' going away. Stern also worked well for XM, I guarantee plenty of people came in to the store and said, give me the one Stern is NOT on.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) Then here's where I am confused. XM has 7.1 million subsribers and Sirius 5.1. Taking out the 3 million that signed up because of Howard that means 2.1 million versus 7.1 million for the rest of the stuff. As you claim there is no programming that can approach Howard, so why did people choose XM 3-1 over Sirius? Started first, better technology up front, and better car manufacturer deals. I think overall the Sirius audience is more dedicated, because so many have gotten them via retail, instead of with a car. Sirius started in a big hole.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) The customer base wasnt there, the interest for Sirius as a unique vendor had died down as most of Stern audience were already converted. I suspected growth for both companies with a level off inthe next year. With that said, i have made alot of money on the stock and Im pretty pumped about the merge. I listen mostly for sports and somewhat for music and its going to be cool to be able to listen to everything. I hope they can get approval and get this done in good time because as of right now, im not a subscriber to either. WHOA! What happened to your XM stuff? I think growth was really going to slow up, and the Stern effect now was going to be the name recognition. I think sales will really slow down now, since people will be confused on what to do because they are merging.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) I understand, Sterns does that to his fans. That is the most amazing part about his show. Tell me something, taking Sterns out of the equation, why is XM's programming so much better than Sirius? I don't feel XM is better. I think both provide great music choices. I have listened to XM. The music I like didn't do it for me on XM. XM tries to be deeper in their music, which sounds cool, but it really depends what type of music you like. I heard some horrible stuff on XM, and sure it was deeper cuts, but they were bad cuts. Sirius is supposedly more hit based, which isn't quite true. Bottom line, you will hear music on both, that you never hear anywhere else. I'm also not a big fan of Clear Channel being involved in XM. They are one of the reasons most people leave terrestrial. As for sports, the best radio sport is baseball, but I don't need that, being in Chicago. I don't listen to other teams. As for NFL, I could care less as well. NASCAR does add a cool feature, if you like NASCAR, with in car audio. It would be cool to go to a race, take the portable device and listen to the drivers frequency as you watch. Talk, well, most of it doesn't interest me. I feel Howard put together some good talk on his channels, besides him. Otherwise, I can't rate talk. Comedy, probably the same on both. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) Tony, as a fellow owner of Sirius stock, I wish everything you said is true. However even with Stern bringing his audience with him, they were never going to catch or take over XM as the leader in Sat radio. As much as I would have liked it to happen it just isnt in the cards. Both companies realized that the market is leveling off and there is only so much to be gained from competing. When they adapt the XM name, will you still claim to listen to Sirius? I've been waiting for you. Sirius certainly could have overtaken XM...they had the momentum. Who knows, its probably not going to get played out. Who really cares. I want some money, merger is fine with me. I don't have a problem with any name. As long as this new service doesn't have commercials on the music channels, I will be fine with it.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) I listen sometimes. I've heard better comics and better social commentators. I have a little more perspective in my life and do not hero worship, I left that behind as a childhood relic. I hope you find a life partner and can worship them on the same level as Stern. That person will be very lucky, or a victim of stalking (The Stern you know, by the way, only exists on the radio. He's an entertainer and puts on a puppet to entertain. It is after all a show and he has artistic license to portray any character. Until you are in his inner circle, you really don't know the person.) Just because I get in this thread and act like an idiot, does not mean I actually am one. I listen everyday and am entertained, more than anything other show out there. That is all.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:03 PM) The perfect human. Glad you found him. LMAO. Maybe instead of having children, you could have him donate sperm? With such perfection in the world, I am certain you wouldn't want to reproduce. And while I find Stern to be amusing to hilarious at times, northing compares to the ferocity and fervor of his fans. You all crack me up. Any criticism of Stern, anything less than calling him a god, gets you all frothy in the mouth and pounding keyboards. I just kicked my dog I'm so pissed at you. Hilarious at times? Now you are a listener? I'm so confused. And donate sperm? have you looked at the guy? The kids would be lanky, dorky looking things with big noses and witchy hair.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) I know, Stern is the greatest entertainer in history. Invented satellite radio. It would not exist without him, blah blah blah. You crack me up. I have never in my life met someone so devoted to a dj. You would probably die without him. Two thousand years from now there will be temples dedicated to him. Maybe you will be recognized as one of the prophets. Interesting you raise the parallels to the Catholic Church, you worship Stern like many people worship the God of their choice. So Stern is your God. The difference is Stern actually exists. Hey Oh! I would love to be the Pope of the Church of Stern. Instead of Amen, we could say Hey Now!
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) Came with a car I bought. And to help entertain you Look at her tits!! Wow. Blow me!! Does your son jack off? They talk like that on the Catholic Channel? Scandalous!
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) 25% only bought for him, he made the market legit. I'm not certain where you got that number. But with 3,000,000 people all wanting just him, that's only about $333 per person. Plus, he makes the market legit, so the others would fail, leaving him as the only satellite radio option. Both actually. Ah, the Catholic Channel is on Sirius.
  22. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) This is the first week he's been on vacation since he's been back and it was a week that would have had only 3 broadcasts anyway, with the holiday. And I'm sorry if you don't like "Master Tape Theatre", but for a longtime fan, I think it rules. I'd prefer though to get different MTT broadcasts thru the day on 100 rather than the same one repeated. And the Billy West stuff was great! Also, you got live Bubba & Ferrall shows all week, so what's the problem? This would better be debated at siriusbackstage.com...check it out. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) Disprove that the increase in listeners was due to installs in new cars, poor local programming in key markets and the increase in intensity of sun spots which made regular radio tough to listen to. Yes, he drove some buyers. Legitimacy to the industry? Do you own xm or sirius? If not, why am I arguing you. And all those other things contributed. But they came in DROVES when he signed on. They added 3 million people right around the time of his first Sirius broadcast. Let me explain legitimacy...for the first time, there was a TOP NAME radio personality, going exclusively to one or the other. MLB, NBA, etc, are not exclusive to either service. You get those in many forms. Howard was going to a medium where only Sirius subscribers could listen.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) So why doesn't Stern start his own satellite venture? With all those subscribers, just wanting his show, cut the expense of all those other channels and have an all Stern channel. If he is responsible for almost 1/4 of all satellite subscribers, he could single handily shut down the industry. Disprove the numbers the I posted. He brought legitimacy to the industry and brought the light on XM and Sirius.
  24. This show makes me mental. the only good part last night was seeing that girl in bra and panties, with those ridiculous implants popping out of the screen.
  25. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) No, Im referring to TonyHo. He used to love to take every opportunity to blast XM and extol the virtues of Sirius. Now they are one and the same. Its kind of funny You guys have been missing me haven't you. I have been talking more Sirius than Sox lately, so siriusbackstage has been my board of choice. However, you are wrong. I am happy about this. I am a stockholder, a disgruntled one at that, and want to make some money. hopefully this will do it. As for content, Sirius has everything I need, so XM content doesn't interest me, not even MLB. But I think it should be good for everyone to have some more options. I could see paying a little extra to get some of their channels. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) Final note on Sterns success forcing a merger, I was thinking the opposite, Sirius didn't achieve the critical mass they were looking for and made themselves available. If they thought they could have caught XM, they probably would have continued to compete. Are you sirius? Ha. Come on man. Since Stern joined, they went from 600,000 to 6 million. They would have caught XM. For 6 straight quarters now, Sirius has outgained XM, and has shifted the retail market from 60-40 XM, to 60-40 Sirius. Stern kept Sirius from going under, and if XM had signed him, game over. Sirius would be gone. We can debate all day about kind of numbers Stern brought. We can quote Rex's ridiculous number of 1 million or mine, which is about 3 million. NO OTHER RADIO GUY COULD DO THAT. Not even Rush. People love Rush (morons), but are not going to follow him in droves like us Stern morons. *breathing* I am done.
