  1. I'll take Farnsworth and Pinto...
  2. Nakamura might be too sought after. I think a better fit for the Sox would be names that aren't appearing in rumors and such - someone along the lines of Kazuhiro Wada. Also, Kenji Johjima would look nice backing up Pierzynski. Couldn't be any worse than Ben Davis... In case anyone wonders who the hell I'm talking about... Kazuhiro Wada, THIRD BASE .320/.425/.607, 21 2B, 1 3B, 30 HR, 89 RBIs, 71BB/59K, 1.000 FLD% Kenji Johjima, CATCHER .338/.432/.655, 25 2B, 1 3B, 36 HR, 91 RBIs, 49BB/45K, .996 FLD%
  3. Here's to making the south side the chosen destination for great Japanese players for years go come.
  4. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) How many times was Koch hitting triple digits in a White Sox uniform? If you throw 100+mph, you're valuable. We've already got a drunken headcase who can top 100+. Three cheers to Bobby Jenks.
  5. Honestly, why would Detroit even want Harris? They have a plethura of MIF in Guillen, Infante, Martinez, Smith and Vina. CF is just as crowded for them as well.
  6. Whatever happened to Nelson w/ the whole bullpen ordeal w/ Boston? Was he ever fined? Imprisoned?
  7. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Huh? I'm not suggesting all Japanese players are bad risks. If the scouts like him, I have no problem w/ the Sox signing him. The reason I bring up Kaz's fielding is that these are both middle infielders, coming over mid-career. I wholly believe Kaz was a very good fielder in Japan. To play as horribly as he did last year, there has to be some problem adjusting. Since 2b requires roughly the same skills as ss (not exactly, but they are similar), it's useful information -- I'm not comparing them just b/c they're Japanese. Hideki's play in the field means squat for Taguchi, imo. At worst, Iguchi will be a 'costly' utility middle infielder, backing up both Uribe and Harris. Iguchi has played both 2B and SS, so he could default to such a role (assuming healthy shoulder(s)) if he does perform better than Harris. Either way, if signed, that means Valdez will be spending a good chunk of time in AAA for '05.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) What do we do if Carl tears it up while Frank is gone? Do we trade him when Frank comes back, or does he become a $4 million bat off of the bench? It should also be noted that Carl has a team option for $5.5 million next season. So we could pick it up and trade him after the 2005 season. That would be one of those "good problems" to have, however likely or unlikely it may be. Do not forget that Dye has the 'ability' to be a question mark. Will Dye end up spending some time on the DL this season or not? Will he put up .265/25/85 or better -- or worse?
  9. Some form of optimism (and perhaps justification for his $4M salary) is forming for Carl Everett for the 2005 season. Carl Everett getting ready for the 2005 season Also, an interesting quote from Everett in regards to the '05 Sox team being 'less powerful' than previous years' homerun-emphasized teams.
  10. QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) his fastball is supposed to have some late movement on it, and he can throw 3-4 other pitches with great accuracy. That alone is worth a look in the bigs. You have to remember how low his walks are, alot of pitchers with unreal curves cant hit the zone and walk everyone, he k's and doesnt walk everyone. That bodes real well for his future I understand that we he is doing thus far in a short minor league career is great and bodes well if he sustains such performance at each level he climbs to. However, my question was: His strike out totals -- are they due to simply being "smart and accurate," or does he have some nasty stuff to go along w/ the previously-mentioned attributes? This minor leaguer who was spoken to, and who faced McCarthy, said that McCarthy had "average stuff."
  11. Barry Larkin as an ultra-utility -- SS, 2B, DH, maybe even 3B -- would be an incredible signing, especially for the league minimum. Who wouldn't want a.289/.352/.419 in such a role (for 300K)? However, if Larkin's pride [if he in fact would retire rather than play the bit of a role player] and/or the fact that this 40 year old has played only one full season in the past five years insists on being an everyday player, then he is obviously not a fit for the '05 Sox.
  12. McCarthy has to have plus stuff to be striking out as many batters as he does, doesn't he? I mean, Maddux is a smart pitcher, and although his K/BB ratio (in his prime) was sick, you still never saw the K/9 IP that McCarthy is putting up. So the synopsis of McCarthy is "just ok stuff" but the brains to strike out people?
