  1. They have the best pitcher in baseball, the mvp, and a great closer, so they have to be the best in their division! That sort of logic may work in basketball with 5 starters logging most of the minutes, but I just don't see how sports people are applying it to baseball where you have to be solid and deep in so many other positions...
  2. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Your completely taking that quote out of context, I believe what Fathom was saying: "the fault should go totally towards the Gordon family, and Sampson doesn't deserve the hate he's received." Is that SAMPSON is not at fault. It has nothing to do with Weber at all, and I may be wrong on this but I do not believe that Fathom is even an Illini fan. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that fathom is not an illini fan at all (although I think he may have gone there?). And I probably misread that. But my point still stands that a sizeable contingent of illini fans have expressed that sentiment. Not that they completely absolve weber, but many feel that the way gordon and his family, along with sampson, handled the situation makes him less accountable since the sentiment is that both those parties are dishonest and slimy while weber is not. I just see it as recruiting and weber swinging and missing on a recruit who already had verballed. It may be a problem with his recruiting since it isn't the first big recruit he has missed out on. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) He's not blow your socks off quick, but he is deceptive and knows how to turn the corner on most defenders. He is a capable shooter, it's just not anything special. E. Chicago laid off him and almost dared him to shoot it taking away his penetration to create for others, and he struggeled. Good Luck to the Munster kid, and your Blue Demons next year. Thanks.
  3. 19 boards in his new $15 starbury basketball shoes he debuted. Impressive. Next year he'll have his own model. Anybody else catch lebron dissing the starburys? I hate marbury, his game, attitude, and the knicks, but I applaud his very affordable shoe and sports clothes venture. I liked the "I'd rather own than be owned," response from marbury suggesting that nike owns lebron.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) You can certainly make an argument for them, but Boeheim only has himself to blame for them not getting in. They really weren't even considered a bubble team, and 30 of 31 "bracketologists" listed here had them in, which isn't the case at all for the other bubble teams. Must be a pretty good argument that can be made. http://thebracketboard.com/ But I don't like cuse and hopefully this means everyone in the BE can start scheduling more quality non-conference schedules so that the BE can maintain a solid, top conference RPI. DePaul will be doing their part with another tough schedule with road trips at kansas and creighton already being confirmed. Now I'm hopnig for better results with that tough non-conference schedule starting off.
  5. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) well there's a lot of blame to go around in this situation, plenty for weber and the gordon's both. again, on this board, the one we are posting on, i haven't seen anyone absolve bruce of blame. if you want to start citing things you see elsewhere we can start holding depaul fans here accountable for some of the absurd things their fans state on other boards. to me, that's a bit weak. i'd prefer to debate the people who are here for the debate, not try to incite further disagreement by citing things no one here is saying. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) That's what I'm saying.....the fault should go totally towards the Gordon family, and Sampson doesn't deserve the hate he's received. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) i would agree with this. although i think sampson could have handled it better (even he's acknowledged he probably should have called weber) i don't think he can be blamed for pursuing the situation, particularly after senior asked for him to recruit his son. Just one example, and the same sentiment has come up from illini fans on this board.
  6. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) who here has said weber is not to blame? Well, by agreeing that the gordon family deserves full blame, that's what it sounds like, but I meant weber loyalists in general. Plenty of weber supporters on other boards and probably on here have used that type of argument to combat all the criticism he gets. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) I've seen Bizoukas plenty over the past 3 years. He is a gritty, hard nosed, intelligent point guard. He actually had a fade away 15 footer rim out at the buzzer to beat East Chicago in the sectionals and spoil their great state championship run before it even started. He pulled an Eric Gordon by skipping out of his verbal to Northern Iowa to go to DePaul. I like his game, but he will be hard pressed to play in the Big East. I think it would have takin him at least a few years to play at No. Iowa. His game is penetration and making good decisions. Average shooter at best, his high basketball I.Q. is his strong suit. As for East Chicago and Angel Garcia, I see him all the time. He is extremly skilled for a big man. He has a pure jump shot up to 20 feet, handles the ball like a guard, at 6'11. He is terribly raw as a low post player though, well he doesn't show much intrest in playing on the block. He is a typical European type big man and his upside is HUGE! He is a sophmore academically, so prep school is a given after next season. He is also just learning english so grades are a question as well. Pro teams from Europe are sniffing around him already also. Pittino and many others have been hard on him for a while now. Thanks a lot. DePaul needs high basketball-IQ players, particularly at PG, but I was hoping he was a shooter too. How's his speed and quickness? Hopefully good if he's a penetrator.
  7. QUOTE(shoota @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) haha, I've said the same. I developed a dislike for old people while working as a bagger. I took great pleasure in f'ing with the elderly when they accidentally asked for plastic in paper when they really meant paper in plastic. Granny, this doesn't look right, oh that's what you asked for. Making everything fit back into their folding shopping carts that they brought in double-paper, double-plastic was never fun. QUOTE(shoota @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) That was my favorite job ever, and looking back, I can understand why Kevin Spacey's character in American Beauty wanted to go back to a job of his youth. Yeah. Not having to worry about important crap was fun.
  8. I'm pretty sure next year will be an 18-game schedule with everyone playing everyone once and 3 mirror games. And cuse very much deserved to be in ahead of a couple teams...
  9. All parties deserve blame, but ultimately weber lost him. And with his track record with elite recruits, it's not crazy to assume that he may have had some missteps or not done what was necessary to hold onto gordon. The excuse that weber is not to blame at all since he's dealing with immature teenagers who change their minds and are easily swayed can only go so far because that's what exactly what recruiting is. He's a good coach and he's still bringing in pretty solid players, but some criticism should fall on his shoulders for not capitalizing on the succes of a couple of seasons ago and turning that into top recruiting classes. He did swing and miss on a few attainable elite recruits, so that made the gordon situation look a whole lot worse. I only hope weber's troubles can maybe give Coach Wainwright a little recruiting edge when recruiting the same player.
  10. A homeless gentleman would help me and gather most of the carts as long as I bought a streetwise or two when I got paid every two weeks way back when I was working at a Jewel over the summer at 16. And no more plastic bags would suck. They fit perfectly in the wastebaskets in my room, the basemant bathroom, laundry room, etc. And when I go to food-4-less where you have to bag your own groceries, I'll quintuple bag everything so that I have a healthy supply for the wastebaskets.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Tyrus is a year younger than Aldridge, but when you count how each of them have performed per minute of game time, Thomas gets almost 2x the amount of blocks per minute, 1.2 times the number of rebounds per minute, and .9x the amount of points per minute. In other words, they're almost the same on scoring, but on the defensive parts, Thomas has so far been significantly more productive in the time he's been given. Personally, I hate the "per minute" argument in the NBA. It's a way of masking the deficiencies and inconsistencies that keep a player off the floor. If you're good enough and deserve the minutes, you'll more than likely play. When watching the Bulls and tyrus play, skiles clearly does let him play but will rightfully take him out once the mistakes, dumb fouls, and turnovers start adding up. I think aldridge has been more productive overall and his recent numbers show it.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Any Hamga news? He'd be a heck of a get for ISU. Yeah, but no mention of your iowa st. or my Blue Demons who were recruiting him early on. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=2&c=630304
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 02:39 AM) Bulls won last night, but the game reminded me why I wanted us to take Aldridge over Thomas. Thomas might be really good eventually (I would say yes), but Aldridge is your legit 6'11 post scoring 4 to go along with Ben Wallace if you have him. Yeah, I agree, although I'm not so sure abot just how good tyrus will be. I'm having trouble envisioning him as a legit starting star PF, or anything more than an energy guy off the bench at this point, but hopefully he really can make the huge strides he'd have to make. Not saying aldridge will be a star, but he looks like the much more sure bet to be a solid player so far and would probably have helped the team out more in the present, in my opinion. And here's one of the worst pieces of crap I've read on espn, and that's saying a lot. Somebody sent me the link trying to get me mad. Another reason why women should not talk sports. I like how she claims kobe is just as good a defender as Jordan. And I literally laughed out loud when she said vince carter, mcgrady, and lebron are better defenders than joe dumars because they're bigger. Apparently today's NBA is tougher. I realize that kobe had those consecutive 50-point games and had 82 in a game last year, but does she even know Jordan had a 37 PPG season?? Whether it be mid-80s Jordan (when he was in kobe mode and did it better) or 90s Jordan, there's zero doubt who the better and more talented player is. I take Jordan over kobe, whether it be one-on-one or any scenario, always.
  14. So much for that last tiny glimmer of hope of another chance at rose...
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) 2 AB, 2 G, 5 PO, 2 A So yeah, he's pretty experienced at the position. So 2 games this spring? Or at-bats, ok read that wrong. I don't know where I'm going with this anyways. I guess I'm wondering if he played at 1st this spring and looked shaky before.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) I believe I was out on the patio when the actual play occurred, I went out to fire up the grill, came back in and Toby was laying on the ground. I just said to myself "WIKI TIME!" I assume the Blizzard was worth it though, right? I don't doubt you were busy doing all those things for a second, collapse, although you did manage to get back on here a few minutes later to criticize him being in there. So was it steaks? Burgers? Brats? I suddenly have a craving for a grilled steak and a Blizzard...
  17. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) I think when shockers like this happen we want to make sense of them and the easiest way to do that is blame Ozzie. Right or wrong, seems like it's become the easiest thing to do for any Sox misstep...
  18. s***ty, but a freak injury. Can't see how Ozzie is getting full blame. Toby was looking impressive this spring and I was excited to see him during the season. Interesting to note: with most of the usual suspects in the game thread, not a word about how outraged they were with Ozzie putting toby hall in at 1st base prior to the injury. Hindsight is always 20/20, of course.
  19. Oh yeah, and apparently angel garcia is listed as a sophmore. That kid is taking a long time to graduate high school.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Look at it this way: At least you're not an Iowa State fan. Only thing that keeps me going as a Blue Demon fan...
  21. So many variables, but if... anderson is the starting CF all year: 106 erstad is the starting CF all year: 34
  22. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) Awesome, glad I could amuse you. Yeah, thanks. It was good. But don't worry, my team underachieved and played a lot of crappy basketball this year so I was too busy blaming the bad coaching and terrible on-court performances to even be able to worry about refs and opposing fans. unc will be fine.
