The East Bracket (East Rutherford)
SleepyWhiteSox replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wow. Blaming the opposing team's fans, and on a neutral court at that, is a completely new one for me. Funny, but still a new one for me in the art of not taking a loss very well. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) That's why its aggravated battery, not simple battery. That's what aggravated means. Special circumstances of extremity - the overmatched brutality, and the fact that he is a cop. If neither were true (if it were some dude in a bar beating up some other dude), then it would be simple battery. Would that have been the case without the video considering she only suffered bumps and bruises?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) Rex, as far as the scouting report on Garcia, he looks like a high major player to me. He's big, yet he can step outside and shoot it and he can also get into the lane. I'd like to see him get stronger, but he should definitely be on IU's radar for 2008. Just not sure if he fits the bill of the type of big guy Kelvin is looking for simply because he doesn't seem to like to "bang" inside and does shoot a lot from the perimeter if given the chance. Nonetheless, I fully expect IU to make an offer. Pitino was there last night in the front row watching him and I could see him moving up to the top 50 range if he plays well this summer. DePaul is also recruiting him. I believe he's friends with and played AAU with one of our incoming guys from indiana, Bizoukas. Haven't seen him play, but if he's good, hopefully we're still top 3 for him. Oh yeah, if anybody from indiana had seen Bizoukas (PG from munster) play, I'd be interesting in hearing what people think of him. Obviously not as highly ranked as our top 30 guys Dar Tucker and Mac Koshwal, but DePaul does need a guy who can develop into a smart, efficient PG.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) Should be no different, no matter who this happens too. Not all men are 6'5" and capable of defending themselves any better than this woman. And he's getting more than agg battery, thats merely the charge, he's going to lose his job, everyone he knows will know what he did, he will lose his reputation to his loved ones, and perhaps lose many loved ones in the process. A night of being a drunk tard, and this is his reward, which he will live with for the rest of his life. The good news is the woman wasn't seriously injured...but the price this guy will end up paying in the end reaches much farther than agg battery charges levied against him. Sure, by law, that's all he gets. But I agree with the sentiment that it feels like he deserves more because of beating up a defenseless woman, since, although not actually written, it's basically recognized as common knowledge that as a man, you don't beat up on women. He was about a foot taller and 150 pounds heavier, so there's probably some luck involved with her not getting more seriously injuring, especially after seeing the tape. And I never consider being drunk an excuse (not saying you do either).

QUOTE(shoota @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) All the mexicans who work in the kitchen of my building call each other "beaners." It's a term of endearment. Maybe at times in some places, but nowhere near how African-Americans use the n word, as he's basically trying to turn it into. Much more rare to hear it used that way from what I've seen and heard. And that curse word-type term of endearment Mexicans most commonly use is probably "guey."

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Mencia isn't funny in the least. After Mencia is dealt with, I hope someone goes after Dane Cook. His HBO show gives me douche chills everytime I flip over it. In both their cases, thank God for remotes. I found cook funny maybe about 6 years ago, with the "Christ-chex" routine and what-not, but he's been garbage since. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) I would never use the word in a discussion not involving him. I only used it because it's so prevalent in his routine. I certainly didn't mean to offend you or anyone else, and I'm sorry that I did. Not really offended, although I do appreciate a sincere apology. I was just trying to point out that this idiot is making a living off of a racial slur that doesn't even apply to him fully anyways. Not only does he rip off jokes and kills them, but he's also claiming to be something he isn't as a way of verifying his use of racial slurs. Kinda like rappers claiming made-up street cred, but worse. It annoys and pisses me off more than it offends me.

Major League Baseball Reaches a New Low?
SleepyWhiteSox replied to Kalapse's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) It's a Spring Training game and Biggio is nearly 40 he has no use for such games so I wouldn't have blamed him one bit if he decided to go that route, of course Craig Biggio is far too classy to ever do such a thing since he would see it as disrespecting his employer and letting down his teammates. Would his teammates really be let down or the organization disrespected considering the cause he's promoting? QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) Not to be the bad guy here, but if you allow something as little as this to happen, it's going to open up the floodgates for other stuff. This has been going on for a long time in sports. Particularly football. I'm not familiar with what the punishment would be in baseball, though. But it would've been impressive if he took the fine, assuming it's just a fine, while continuing to champion and bring more publicity and awareness to the cause. Kinda like Jordan paying the fine to wear his black and red Air Jordan Is, but for a greater cause. Nobody hated Jordan for it, and I don't see who would dislike biggio for it considering what the pin represents and how long he's been doing it, assuming the penalty is just a fine. But either way, he seems like a classy guy, and respecting the sport that pays you by following the rules is commendable too. -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) But that's his schtick, The Screaming Beaner. Ugh. I know he's trying to make it the new n word, but is it really acceptable to say? I still see it as a racial slur. Mexican-Americans and immigrants I know or have encountered never, ever call each other that.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) BEANERS!!!! Bmags should be laughing hysterically about now. This Cosby incident is a much more damaging account of plagiarism than previous allegations. Perhaps someone could have realistically argued the wall comment within the Rogan video was coincidence. His whole routine is about BEANERS and it's not out of the realm of possibility. You would stilll have to ignore the fact he performed on the same event as the Jewish comedian who originally mentioned the joke. This recent Mencia routine, from the beginning until the end, was framed exactly the same. Starts off about teaching a child how to play football, goes through all the achievements, then ends with a punchline of the player waving to his mother in the endzone. His career should end, and every remnant of his existence on Comedy Central should be burned. A german named ned (yeah, I know he's part Hispanic) just should not be making Hispanic and other racist jokes, much less horribly unfunny ones and saying "beaner" so much. He's like a one-man campaign to make that word into the new n word, and I'd like to punch him in the face each time he utters it.

Rented Borat and Stranger than Fiction. Borat was one of the most over-hyped movies I have ever seen. Not even close to being as funny as I expected. It's like every scene I was expecting the even bigger joke or laugh to come, but it just quickly moved on to the next little scenario. Felt like something was missing, and it was very short too. And the naked wrestling in the hotel scene was way too disgusting to be funny. I actually became annoyed watching the cut scene that dragged on and on with him pointing at each cheese product asking what it is. Overall, it was funny and had some laughs, but the hype was just way too much for what it delivered. And I really liked Stranger than Fiction a lot more than I expected...

Alford to New Mexico?

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) being an attention whore who body paints himself to get extra pub? Funny and ballsy, in my opinion. Most fan bases would be luving it and eating it up if they had that kind of coach doing something goofy like that. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) Tyson with 22 points and 22 rebounds? God damn does that guy suck. What a bust.... Still amazes me that you luv this guy when you're so obsessed with defense and his defense (especially man-to-man) is so mediocre... Give me his height and wingspan and I'm blocking 2+ shots a night with my eyes closed (...along with developing a post move and/or shot, building muscle and strength, etc., etc., etc.). And don't give me the crap "altered shots" argument. But anyways, you're obviously cherry-picking stats on what was probably his best statistical performance of the season. Everybody knows he can rebound and this was his first (and probably last and only) game of more than 20 points this season. KG (remember when tyson was being billed as the next KG? ) had 22 boards last night too and it's so nice to see him about win a rebounding crown. Eddy Curry went for 27 and 9 last night (I can cherry-pick stats too) and is having a very good year also, but that doesn't mean I don't consider him a bust too. Nice to see them both improving their game with time, finally, and their changes of scenery, but based on how high they both were drafted, the lofty expectations, and what was given up to get them, specifically tyson, they will always be busts in my book. I don't see how going from a number 2 pick to being a serviceable, one-dimensional role player is not being a bust. Maybe not a complete, utterly worthless bust like chris washburn, but a serviceable bust like many others have been. And, right or wrong, I'm always going to compare those guys the Bulls traded in drafts like Brand for tyson and aldridge for tyrus. aldridge had a nice game too. On a completely unrelated note, it looks like Ben Wallace is going the stephon marbury route in wearing and selling 15 dollar basketball shoes through steve and barrys. Pretty cool, in my opinion. -

QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) we couldn't splurge on the fitted green hats? They look like little leaguers. Didn't other teams use that same style that day? Probably just what New Era gave them.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) But what about Morrison and his 37% from the field, lower FT%, lower 3P%, less ppg, boards, blocks and assists than Roy? What a colossal pile of s*** that guy is going to be. Personally, I'll enjoy watching redick fail more. And, once he got back from his injuries, Roy was gonna be ROY (yes, I know, already has the name too) even before Bargnani's season ended unless Bargnani made a monster ending push. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) Yeah well, you don't count. I forgot to add "unanimous amongst knowledgeable fans" to that sentence. I hate you, collapse.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) (except for the Hall signing, that was pretty much unanimous.) Hated it.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) 17 year olds look like they are in their mid 20's nowadays though. True, but still 17 mentally. What's crazy is that those 15 and 16 year olds getting married way back when probably looked like 12 and 13 year olds nowadays. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) I believe Illinois is one of them. I think in Illinois youre an adult at 17. quick edit. maybe not in IL but I could swear it used to be. Or those police officers were just trying to scare me straight I thought somebody else on here said the age of consent was 17 in Illinois and posted a link, but I'm not sure.
