  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) When you can buy t-shirts for a buck and jeans for $2 at TJMaxx, I'd say that's debatable. My sister gets clearance clothes for the kids at WalMart and they just had shorts on clearance for $0.50. That's a hard price to beat. My cousin has to buy 4 uniforms and shoes for her 3 kids EVERY year which is at the least a couple hundred per kid per schoolyear. Since the topic at hand deals with high school students, I still say uniforms are cheaper. You're describing two extremes, so I'll give my example: I shop at tjmaxx, marshalls, etc. with my younger brother in high school too and we never see shirts at a dollar or jeans for 2. Clothes for teenagers are pricey, even when shopping for sale and clearance prices. My brother isn't the type who wants the most expensive clothes or fads, but buying quality clothes for him to look presentable still isn't cheap. He needs far less of these clothes since his school requires a uniform. For school, he alternates between a few polos and khakis, the polos being from last year, and last year's shoes are still holding up, for now. The khakis were cheaper than any pair of jeans he has. (dockers hit the clearance racks; levis never do.) When wearing uniforms, there are no worries about keeping up with current fads or the latest expensive gym shoes. No designer jeans for alternating daily needed. You can get away with washing your shirt and wearing it more than once in a week. Brands don't matter since all the uniforms looks the same.
  2. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Ugh. I spend enough money on my kids for school including clothes, supplies, books, activity fees, etc... The last thing I need is to spend MORE money on clothes that they'll only wear one place a few hours a day. Then they'll come home and change into their regular clothes causing even more laundry. We get a lot of their clothes of clearance racks so it's never a problem looking as good as everyone else or wearing the same namebrands. As long as it's clean and hole-free, we're happy. Uniforms are cheaper.
  3. I'm curious as to how it was deemed what was "too baggy" and what was "appropriate." QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) making the girls wear plaid knee length skirts and blouses
  4. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) Geez, it takes about 5 minutes for a White Sox loser thread to get to about 10 pages. Where the hell is everybody? Sad but true. This one lifted my spirits.
  5. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) It's a joke on account of PK grounding into 19 double plays. I didn't say that was causing the Sox to be bad right now. It's also a joke on Dusty Baker and his comments regarding OBP. It's layered. Oh, I know. I was agreeing with you. I'm just amazed at all the criticism the offense still gets when the clear reason we're underachieving is the starting pitchers.
  6. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Yeah, Thome's high OBP is clogging up the bases for PK. When will people understand that our offense is not the problem...
  7. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Derek Rose has a top 5 and Illinois is not in it. Kansas, IU, Memphis, Kansas and UCLA. http://www.suntimes.com/output/campus/cst-spt-rose26.html You forgot the home team: DEPAUL
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Jon would have to pitch like he is now for the rest of the season to even be in the discussion. We'd also have to get into the playoffs. I luv Jon, but no way...maybe if various team planes of other contenders crash, but even then only it can't be a post-mortem award...
  9. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Considering Doyel knew nothing about College Basketball, yet it was considered his specialty, I'm going to go ahead and guess that this article is horrible and uniformed. You got it. Correct on all points.
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) I'm speaking for myself, not everyone else, and I can guarantee you I didn't call Count an ace Contreras is an ace.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) in fact they are saying it is MORE likely that Thome is on the juice that I-roid. And that thome has gotten bigger over the past 5 years. Link?
  12. Thome has been HUGE for us...which is why I'm baffled as to why he's being criticized as if he was one of our starting pitchers...
  13. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) Yeah but......once in the playoffs I guarantee our guys would be just as jacked as everyone else, this is just a grinding part of a long season. I don't think any playoff team has ever just laid down, even the Skanks after their 3peat from 98-00? Yep. Everyone seems to forget how s***ty we were looking the second half of last year. Just get to the playoffs, and anything can happen. This team has the players (damn you, SPs) to do it.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Last year's team was one that could obviously win it all if it made the playoffs, but they looked so much like a team that was pulling an epic choke job (15 games to 1.5 isn't very good). I honestly thought that team was going to screw us all and miss the playoffs, but the day they clinched not pulling that off I thought we'd win it all. If this team clinches a playoff spot, I'll expect a 1st round exit unless the starting pitchers remember how to do their job. NO, it wasn't that obvious AT ALL. And if (more likely when, I believe) we make it to the playoffs, I like our chances once again.
  15. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) Yup, with 4+ ERAs. Two aces! Better than the players that you wanted in your sig...
  16. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) Yes, but there's nothing stopping KW from improving a bad situation. If he didn't want to own up on Vazquez being a mistake, then shame on him. The starters haven't performed, but who's the one trading for them and signing them to long-term contract extensions? He's the one that picked them. It's his mess. The two pitchers that he's signed for extensions recently are Contreras and Garland, and they're our only 2 pitchers pitching their worth...
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) I'm eagerly anticipating SSI's pull baseball post tonight. lol...
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Ozzie is too stubborn to put Bmac in. Remember last year he decided to use Timo at 1st base, instead of calling up Gload. In his revisionist history Bmac was bad last year, Timo was great, and we won everythin due to him resting our starters every other game. I think it helped. Nobody got injured.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) I'm at work. If my fiance messes up taping Prison Break, she'll no longer be the future Mrs. Fathom lol...
  20. Get that kid onto the basketball court fast!
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I still stand by my statement that if we don't make the playoffs, the turning point of this season was Joey Cora sending Iguchi homer on Tuesday night in the 5th inning with 2 outs. Prior to that play, we had our swagger back and were rolling. Immediately after that, Vazquez gave up a 2 run bomb, and we've been playing with no intensity since. Noo, I was at that game. Looks and feels like this series will dictate a lot.
  22. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) Curt Schilling is a better pitcher than anyone we have.
