  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) I've already talked about this multiple times back earlier in the thread. I highly doubt taxes go down.
  2. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) If there were no illegal immigrants receiving social services, healthcare, schooling and the like then those services wouldn't have such a big workload and we would indeed pay less in taxes. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalrelease.html According to this there is a net negative of 10.4 billion in 2002 and I think its safe to say that has grown since then. You are a U.S. citizen if you are born on U.S. soil.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) If nothing else, let me say this: through the cowardice of our elected officials and the idiocy of our immigration laws, we've put ourselves into as bad of a situation as we could possibly be, and if nothing is done, it's going to just keep getting worse. In my opinion, the worst attempted fix for this mess is a gigantic, hugely expensive, massively disrupting deportation. A much better method would be to realize that this situation exists not because of the people looking for jobs, but instead because of the inadequate laws, and we should find a method of addressing the problem in a forward looking manner, not a backwards looking one. If we obsess over "These people broke the law and must be punished!", we're just going to wind up making the future worse.
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) ok, then, Enstien of the "immagration issue", what's your solution? ANY bill that legalizes or puts these people on the path to citizenship is amnesty. They are being rewarded for entering this country illegally. That's pretty cut and dried. If they pay fines for their offenses and are put on a fairly strict path towards citizenship that must be earned, how is that amnesty? How is paying fines a reward?
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) Out of curiousity has anyone done a study for how much it would cost to add 12 million people to our social entitlement programs and the subtraction from the tax base it would result in? Not to mention adding in the lost purchasing power from the resulting wage inflation price increases for industries that take up a higher percentage of income of the poor, such as food stuffs? Do you think we'd be paying less taxes if there were no illegal immigrants? If so, how much?
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) No. That's a scare number. Wait, wait...could you please give us the real number?
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) Common sense to you = amnesty. And it's wrong. lol I've never stated that.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) It wouldn't cost that much. lol... QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) Furthermore, if it means so much to these people, why is it that I know PERSONALLY of cases which many of the "illegals" didn't even care enough to participate in their own "protests"? This comes directly from their family members who wanted to "support" their illegal brothers and sisters in these marches, but the illegals didn't care. I wonder why that is? Uh, so what? Some had to work. Some fear being arrested and sent away. Some probably don't give a s*** about protests. Expecting 100% of illegal immigrants to show up is just silly...
  9. Do you people advocating deporting 12 million plus people realize how logistically ridiculous that is? A more common sense approach would be much better.

    QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) Well I'm a junior this year and I've narrowed it down to: DePaul Butler Wabash IU I'm visiting all of them within the next month, so I should have a better idea of where I want to go then. I also went to DePaul if you have questions.
  11. -Ozzie not completely satisfied with start. Happy with Thome. -Aaron was one of his favorites. The kid played hard. But a middle-of-lineup guy was needed. -Being candid is how he's always been. Speaks his mind. -It's a shame he's the biggest star because they have a lot of great players. He can't go anywhere in Chicago. The only good thing is that they pay for his drinks. -Not yet as popular as cubs. Long way to go. They're bringing in the young kids as fans. -They have fun but have to listen to the boss (Kenny). They have to protect Buehrle from injury. -Still feels like another World Series team to him. Have a chance to compete. -Sleepy is his favorite soxtalk poster.
  12. Buehrle topic: Wilbon sided with Kenny. Because you're under contract making millions, you can't risk injury. Tony said people never get hurt doing it.

    QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) I'll be going to Florida State University in August. Where are you gonna live? I was there for a couple of years so lemme know if you have any questions.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) but don't play games and act like this isn't almost exclusively one country we are talking about. You're right. We're only talking about the USA. How it affects our country should be the only issue, not where they're coming from.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) I have a hard time rationalizing the reward of illegal behavior, basically on the basis of geographic luck. Immigrants from Africa, Asia, and Europe have to go through a rigorous immigration process to become citizens of the US. People from our hemisphere know that they can sneak through our borders and wait long enough for immigration to become a hot button issue, and wait for someone to offer them citizenship the easy way. Not sure where you're going with your new "racism" angle, but there are also illegal immigrants from Europe. But of course geography plays a role. It has always been easier, less costly, and more convenient to move people short distances as opposed to much farther ones. Also, I highly doubt anyone comes here with the plan to "wait long enough for immigration to become a hot button issue, and wait for someone to offer them citizenship the easy way". And the language in whatever laws are made will not read "only for Mexicans and South Americans." It's for all immigrants.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) Why should Mexico and Central/South America by and large be favored for jobs in the US just because of the geographic luck of a shared porus border. You kinda answered it within the "question," no? It's sorta like asking why it's cheaper to go to Wisconsin Dells than to fly to Paris or Rome. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) Why should potential Africian immigrants be penalized because they didn't have the ability to hire a Coyote to smuggle them through the dessert and hideout until the next amnesty was granted? Answer is they shouldn't. Its racist in its roots. If we opened this up to the world, we would have no problems replacing the illegal labor, and it would all be done legally.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Immigrants aren't a burden on the economy, its illegal aliens that are a burden. One group did everything they were supposed to be here, the other violated the sovereinty of the US to be here. There is a big difference. We may have to call on the Predators to take care of them... QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) So just because it is easy to buy illegal social security cards, companies shouldn't be responsible for who they hire? A survey of about 80 sex offenders in Chicago turned up that about 75% didn't live where they said they did, should we stop tracking sex offenders? People with expensive printers make easy and believable counterfiet money at home now, should we quit charging people with counterfeiting? Just because it wouldn't be easy to enforce, doesn't mean it isn't the right thing to do. Yeah, they should be responsible. I was just providing an easy excuse that came to mind. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) A guest worker program is exactly what is needed, except it needs to originate with people applying from outside of the US, and not after committing a crime to get into the US illegally. Are you one of those who thinks we should kick out the 12 million already here too?
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Don't forget, the place to talk about Bulls basketball is now http://www.talkbulls.com/forums/index.php!!!!! There are discussions about the Bulls playoffs and even the MVP race in the NBA. It will also be the home for game threads throughout the rest of the season and the playoffs, plus all draft and free agent news. Check it out if you have not done so already!!! Remember this is one of the lastest projects from the people who brought you this website, so if you love the Bulls and Soxtalk, Talkbulls should be in your favorites now. [/shameless plug] Very shameless (even though it's the best up-and-coming Bulls site of all time). But the link didn't work for me.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 08:07 AM) Do you want to end illegal immigration today? One provision would do it. Fine companies who hire illegal labor $50,000 per illegal hire, and give some one the resources to enforce the new law. I guarentee you that the incentives to hire illegal workers under the table would quickly disappear with those kinds of finds looming overhead. We don't need bigger walls, or amensty programs, or guest worker programs, we need to remove the incentives for being in the US illegally, the biggest of which is gainful employment. If the US were to ACTUALLY address that one issue, the rest of the issues surrounding this, would quickly disappear. but as usual, the big picture of this issue is totally being missed, and I have no doubt my kid child will be wonder WTF we were doing in 1986 and 2006 by repeatly missing the boat here. Nowadays most working in factories and such jobs use fake, stolen, or borrowed documentation. Some of them are good. It's not even tough to do. Drive down 18th or 26th Street and you can find them on the streets. It'll be such an easy excuse for those who hire them. Imagine the legal battles and companies finding ways to say they didn't know the documentation wasn't good. And I still would like to see information from a credible source (not a link from a site with an obvious anti-immigration agenda) that states that immigrants are such a burden on the economy. A sound guest worker program is the best possible solution.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Its HAIR people. It grows back. Paulie wishes...
  21. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Anderson just looks lost... Not a bad point...hope he puts it together 'cause he's definitely not my favorite player at the moment...
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) See, I disagree because basically now we're saying there is a risk in anything he does, and like I said I would bet there is more risk in some of his daily routines then there is doing this. What if he goes shopping and has a watermelon fall on his foot?? Anyways, I think both of us will agree this is a dumb argument, we're arguing over a giant slip n slide basically . I'll just let it go, no need to keep arguing. The purpose of a tarp isn't to slide on it. And aren't the Sox more liable if an injury occurs on the field as opposed to if he injured himself at home? Kinda made me think of the titans sending mcnair home so they're not liable if he gets hurt at their practice facility, if I understand that situation correctly...
  23. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) new soxtalk rule. you two both ignore each other and are not allowed to quote and respond to each other's posts. jesus christ. That would be boring...
  24. Better yet, what are you eating today?
