  1. Just got home... Well, the jets flying over certainly gave me chills, and it was worth it just to soak in the pre-game atmosphere and the unveiling...But the rest of my party didn't wanna stick it through... The upper deck, minus the first 5 rows, stayed dry for the first 15 minutes but then we got soaked the next half hour or so... So what are they updates? Is it gonna start back up? I heard chatter on the train that it might be played Thurs.?
  2. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) i agree but i'm not buying the "if we don't have illegal immigrants no one will do those jobs!" argument. I also don't buy that mcdonalds would suddenly pay 15 bucks an hour if there were no immigrants...
  3. Only 75 bucks for this all-leather beauty...what a steal...
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) No prob. And Sleepy, here's the link ya lazy bum. http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/library/reports.htm
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) Really? I love Vitale. I think he's good for the game. I don't find him annoying at all. He's enthusiastic with some catchy phrases, but no real concept of evaluating talent. And the annoying part is the duke-slobbering. Off the top of my head...calling jay williams and duhon possibly the greatest backcourt of all time prior to that particular season starting? Begging for battier to be the 1st pick of his draft class?
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) I might have to pick one of those up.. they look real nice. Sweet hat. Is it gonna be used all season long? That might be kinda pretentious... I'm sticking with my WS cap.
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 01:55 AM) When's the first player going to try to wear his jersey backwards on purpose?
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 01:39 AM) the question isnt if they can... its why.... Because it looks ridiculous. The NBA is a business, a product, and it has uniform regulations just like many other companies do. They have a right to protect their image. And the NBA isn't all that strict. AI gets to wear his sleeve and 'Sheed always has shoe straps flapping all over the place, just to name a couple. Let's be completely honest, it's done more as a fashion statement than for actual use.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) Whether you think they're ugly or not, there is 0 reason to ban them. I agree with the others who said the NBA and NFL are starting to piss them off. 0 reason? The NBA can regulate what the players wear on the court. Seems like 100% reason to me.
  10. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) here's some numbers here. doesn't have the "lifetime" cost of 100,000...but does have some good numbers to look at. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalrelease.html it puts a rate of $ -7,000 as the average each illegal immigrant household contributes to the united states per year. Looks reliable.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) The NBA is beyond ridiculous. They continue to drive me more and more to the college game by worrying about such trivial things. Plus I always though the tights were used for compression. No one is going to tell me they are stylish. You know they were meant for trying to stand out, but they look f***in' ridiculous. Purple tights under yellow shorts isn't meant to be more of a fashion statement? I don't completely agree with the dress code when they are off the court, but I certainly do agree with standardizing uniforms while on the court. The NBA is certainly within their right. Personally, I also don't like seeing that players now wear something underneath their jerseys. And it only would have been a matter of time before some players came out wearing speedskating suits under their uniforms.
  12. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) Over an illegal immigrants life time they each cost around $100,000 more than they contribute. Source?
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) www.yahoo.com U.S. Surgeon General's Reports (1988, 1990) Thanks for the link.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Studies have shown that the lungs of a person who smokes for years then quits return to normal within 1 year. Cillia regenerate making this possible. Also within a year the risk of coronary disease is reduced dramatically, and within 5 years the risk of stroke is that of a person who has never smoked. "How Quickly Do the Benefits of Quitting Start?" * "Just 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and pulse rate drop to normal and the body temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal." * "A mere 8 hours after your last smoke, the carbon monoxide level decreases and the oxygen level in your blood increases to normal." * "Just 24 hours after your last cigarette, you substantially lessen your chances of having a heart attack." * "Two days after your last cigarette, you will notice that your ability to taste and smell is enhanced." * "Three days later, your breathing should be noticeably better because your lung capacity will be greater." * "Your circulation will improve and your lung functioning will increase up to 30% within two weeks to three months after quitting." * "Between one month and nine months, the cilia in your lungs will regenerate, allowing your body to clean your lungs and reduce infection." * "One year after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker." * "Five years after quitting, your risk of stroke is reduced to that of a nonsmoker." * "Ten years after quitting, the lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smokers. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas decreases." * "Fifteen years after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmokers. (U.S. Surgeon General's Reports (1988, 1990) And please don't mistake my comments as a defense for lighting up anywhere.. it's not. But if you're going to make such strong statements you should have the right infomation to make them. Link? I'm curious to read more.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Against the Hawks. Wallace simply isn't that good. A good role-player at best. He hasn't come close to living up to the hype he had coming out of Alabama. He's a freakish athlete with minimal skills. Much like James White. No, he's first in steals and 10th in blocks while avg. 15+ points and 7 boards against the entire NBA. How is that not good, especially for a former 25th pick?
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Compared to foreign aid it's actually quite significant, according to the foreign aid numbers from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Total U.S. foreign Aid (aid for development, disasters, etc.) was about $19 billion in the last year numbers are fully available at their page (2004). QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Just doing the math that sounds like $1333, per year, per person. Its really not that much if you think about it. In fact I would imagine the number is WAY higher in reality. Yet that is money that they are earning by working. That doesn't seem like it's stealing from America's pockets as it's been portrayed. It certainly isn't just 16 billion being handed over. Because they work, they are a positive factor towards the economy, no matter how people try to spin that. If the concern is that some of those earnings go untaxed, why not the same antipathy towards foreign aid? It certainly does not cause the same uproar. After all, that is 19 billion tax dollars being given away that is not going towards assisting American citizens. I would also hope for the same type of uproar towards careless and needless government spending.
  17. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) Following our nation's immigration laws certainly is ideal. That's not what I asked.
  18. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Why can't we tax the money these illegals repatriate to Mexico? Seems like it would help defray the costs of the social services they swallow. It would also deprive the Mexican gov't from the second largest source of income in their country. It can be taxed. Sending money to Mexico is not free. And welfare and most social services are not available for illegal immigrants. Not sure how they're "swallowing" it.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) Ideally, we'd be able to ship them all out and make them come back legally. How is that ideal?
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) I've seen these. Very impressive. Too bad James White will be the next Gerald Wallace at the nba level. Gerald Wallace dropped 41 last night and leads the league in steals....10th in blocks...
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) LOL, no green necassary But he's been making b****es look stupid since January?
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) It dropped 7K in 1995. So you're predicting another strike? I wouldn't equate the same type of fan loss after a strike as not making the WS, especially if we put another run at the playoffs and stay competitive again. Let's give our fans a little more credit. I don't know the exact number as to how much the ticket base grew from last year, but there's no way we lose them all in one year.
