Speaking of cell phones, it's kinda annoying when people remove the phone from the side of their head after listening to the other person and bring it directly to their mouths to speak...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) I don't get it. They beat one of the better teams in the country, shouldn't they be excited. Its just like when Iowa beat IU at home. That was the 11th ranked team in the country. For crap sakes its Iowa, what the hell else do they got to be excited about? The growth of corn (ya I'm harsh, but still, they got reason to be excited when their team takes down the 11th rated team in the country). Same goes for Michigan. Thats one of their biggest wins in a long time and against one of the top schools in the big 10 (my opinion is that they are talent wise the best). Plus had they lost that game they'd really have found themselves in a hole in the conference race. Now MSU is in a bit of a hole. If you're unranked and beat a top 15 team, might as well... -

NBA's Most Improved Player

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 02:37 AM) But Garnett has more talent in his pinky than Chandler. Jermaine O'Neal is also much better. Maybe if Chandler was more physical, he wouldn't need any more size. But he isn't physical. He doesn't even know how to go to the basket except when he's going for a tip-in or a putback. And why does Chandler flex? It's not like he has anything but twig arms... Ahhh, Chandler frustrates me. Mainly because Elton Brand was stupidly traded for him. Not to mention the fact that Chandler is making over $60 million dollars and looks like a massive bust. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) For over $60 million dollars, Chandler's good games shouldn't be 11 points and 8 rebounds. But anything is an improvement I guess. :headshake Apparently we have to really lower our expectations for him now... Let me know when he gets double digit boards in two consecutive games. That's all he's bein' paid to f***in' do really... -

NBA's Most Improved Player
SleepyWhiteSox replied to hammerhead johnson's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Yeah, although it would be strange to put a guy who just turned 23 on a list like that considering that he's a good 3 or 4 years away from his prime. A list like that is a good idea, though. It would have to be a guy who is in his prime or past his prime, IMO. I'd probably start with Lorenzen Wright, who actually seemed to care last year. All players past their prime got worse. That's why they're past their prime. -

David West. It's a miracle that the Hornets are winning as many games as they are, and it's basically been all about him and ROY on that team. Anyways, that's my choice. -
Artest NOT NOT Traded
SleepyWhiteSox replied to RockRaines's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) Alright, enoughs enough. I'm sticking up for Artest. Seriously? QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) The Pacers screwed him over in this. No one communicates with him, no one tells him (or his agent, who he's told is handling everything) about this move. They don't approach him and they don't communicate they just do it all behind his back. Who is he that they have to tell him? What has he done for the organization to merit that sort of respect? Far better players who have done far more for their organizations have been traded and made much less of a mess of it. It's common knowledge that the NBA is a business and being traded is part of that business. Small price to pay for the millions upon millions that they're making. Why b**** when you already know how things work? Move on to a different profession if you don't like it. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) Plus the whole freaking reason Artest demanded a trade was because they went around his back and were trying to deal him to Sacremento earlier in the season. He didn't want to go there so he figured he could demand a trade and than find a way to get to a team he wants. It was pure speculation. Why do you think he turned around and said he changed his mind and wanted to stay with the team? He found out he was making an ass out of himself over speculation and tried to go back. He has done nothing in the NBA to gain the status of the type of player that deserves to have a say in where he should go. The pacers stuck by him after all of his bulls*** last year, and this is how he repays them. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) They screwed the pooch and I'm sick of everyone slamming Artest. He's done a lot of stupid s***, but this wasn't his fault. Actually, he screwed them over. He lashed out without even knowing if the rumors were true or not. They were surprisingly loyal to him after last year, yet he dicks them over once again. He's a disgrace to his profession. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Personally, I think Artest should be banned from the NBA until he gets help and a professional will say he can handle everything that goes with being an NBA player. Maybe this will increase the chances of Peja winding up on the Bulls in a couple of years. Hasn't that been the rumor for a while now? I agree with both points. And here's some interesting quotes... -

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) Also the problem with the nba isn't the talent level. Mostly it is the commitment to defense and team basketball. Most of the players are currently just looking for the big pay check... and we all know offense =$$$. Therefore the lack of defense. The perimeter defense is just unbearable to watch most nights...unless you get lucky with a good matchup. Only problem I have with that is that nobody can consistently hit a damn jump shot. Defense and team bal isn't the only problem... -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) Deal off, I don't blame Ron for not wanting to go there. Sacramento sucks this year and they're not getting any better. As far as the Pacers getting Peja, that was a dumb move for them. He is often hurt and IMO is on the downside of his career. I do. He's a f***ing idiot who has not earned the right to pick and choose where he should play. And Sacto would have been much-improved by artest's playing abilities... It seems that Peja was probably the best they were gonna do. You can't win a trade when everyone knows you're dying to trade the guy. -
Congrats.

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) Guess some don't realize the talent that is on this team. The bulls are easily one of the deepest teams in the league, and i also agree we need a superstar type player ( believe we have one in the making in deng). Actually i don't think he will ever be a super star but a type 20 player int he leaguye is not out of reach for a player of his caliber. If you guys do not feel they can win a championship by the 2008-2009 when do you? Five years... ten... twenty? This team has to play it's cards right like i said, otherwise we will continue to be a 6th-8th seed. Deng and Kirk are the only talent, and neither will ever be a superstar. Role players like songaila and othella are going to be past 30 in 3 years. And you most certainly have to factor other young teams around the league improving as well, both through gaining experience and free agency. A lot of things have to go right for the Bulls to be a championship-caliber team within the next 5 years, and saying they can just aquire a superstar is much easier said than done. In 3 years I still see this team as no better than a 4 seed in the East, but I hope they can prove me wrong. As of now, I personally don't like the make-up of the team. It's going to essentially be the 3rd rebuilding process now, and the past few years have shown that there are no guarantees that this organization is the type that is going to make all the right moves. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 01:58 AM) They would help initially, Kobe would pass, get the ball back, then basically go 1 on 1 with whatever scrub was guarding him. Listen, it was a great, great performance. I know it sounds like I'm hating. I just think the last 7 minutes or so of the game were retarded. You're right, it sounds like you're hating. He sensed that he was hot, could make history, and did not want to pass it up again as he did last time. I don't fault him at all and applaud him all the way... -

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) Back when Kobe was in his second year, I bought an autographed picture of him for like $30. I hope it ends up being worth more than that and I'm sure it will be, even though I'm not a huge fan of him. Now that you mention it, I traded for a couple of his rookie cards back when I was into basketball cards...I guess now would be a good time to look into prices...Anybody know a good site? Does Beckett (I think that's how it's spelled) put their price guides online? -
