I would highly recommend 1 point per carry for RB's if the QB is going to get a point per completion.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Garland is most effective when he is getting ground ball outs. He's not doing that. He's flirting with disaster. If he somehow escapes here, it will be on sheer luck.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Ricardo Lavolpe is full of crap. I've been saying it's time to give Hugo Sánchez a shot at the managerial job. I've gotten tired of Lavolpe and that comment was stupid. :banghead Oswaldo had some dumb comments too. I like that it's a rivalry, but Mexico really needs to step it's game up now.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) I gotta give props to US's game. They definately deserved the W and will do good. Beasley impressed. I'm only upset Mexico didn't have Cuauhtémoc Blanco. This guy is on hell of a player for Mexico. Too old...too slow...too much of a problem... I used to be a big fan of Cuauhtemoc (hell, I used to even get his shoes), but he slowly started to lose favor with me because of the antics. Some were calling for him on the team, but I was not surprised to not see him on it. It seems like there's too much politics in who's on the team and who isn't anyways.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) In Azteca its hard to play due to the altitude and the crowd. Not many teams get a win going there. But when it comes to neutral turf the US just has Mexicos number. Borgetti is a tough guy and has a good ariel game. But the US defenders are getting bigger by the year and we are starting to stack the deck on the backline like the english. If you ever want to see an impressive backline check out the english in person. Everyone of them is like 6'2 and above. Its hard to outjump them. Beasley creates a unique challenge for Mexico as he runs at a good pace and can explode. Donovan is worthless and disappears in big games. He will score 4 goals agains poor teams but disappears in games against good talent. Mexico would create nightmares for some of the European teams and should have a good chance at getting through to the knockout round if they dont get either England, Netherlands or Brazil or Argentina(or their arch nemisis the US). Those are a few teams that they just dont matchup well with. It's great to see great insights like this, and I'm glad there are fellow soccer fans on here. And at your Donovan assessment. And oh yeah, OM, Fonseca wasn't doing too hot. I was disappointed 'cause I like his game.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) I'm still wating for Mexico to qualify. No surprise here. And the Mexico team leaves a lot to be desired...

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) This was a tossup game, with us as the underdog Saying "it's rutgers" doesn't mean s***. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Rutgers was 4-7 last year and didn't make a bowl game. Seriously though...it looked like a nice win from the highlights, but it's just Rutgers, and a home win at that. Anyways, congrats to the U of I fans. -
QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Why can't we compromise at both the shaved head and a big goatee? He needs something to show with his hat on the mound. It would just look too david wells to me.

QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Can you imagine Jenks with a fierce beard? Say hello to Wickman II I'll have to respectfully diagree. All he needs is the shaved head and he looks so badass.

Quick question: Was there any logic given for why snipers were reportedly shooting at helicopters transporting hospital patients and others? I only caught some of that briefly in the morning but had to hurry out.

QUOTE(heirdog @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) My sentiments exactly. I would be the first to agree with Ross that he could have and maybe should have been up in the middle of the season, perhaps for good. But injuries to Crede (and other IFs), Pods, and our need for extra bullpen arms cost him a spot since Konerko and the DH position (which could be anyone when Frank is not here) have been our most consistent in term of not needing rest or injuries. Konerko does not need his legs because even when he is 100% healthy, he doesn't have any use for them. So circumstances and the way Guillen uses his players all over the place made Gload the odd man out. Talk to Guillen about it, vent to Buerhle about it, talk to your best friend at home about it, just don't blurt it out to the media the day you are called up. I bet no one even cared and his teammates might even agree with him but it sounds like pouting to a team that just doesn't need it right now. Do you think his comments will endear him to Guillen and get him more PT? I doubt it, and judging by Guillen's response, looks like Gload has already fallen out of favor with him. He was sent down after 13 ABs this season due to injury and then never really had an opportunity to come back...s*** happens like that especially to the 25th man on the team. His roster spot was always tenuous at best because if we needed an extra pitcher the last position player would go. And they both went...Gload and Harris...now both are back so suck it up and play ball. This isn't a Wally Pip/ Lou Gehrig situation so we shouldn't feel bad for Ross that he had a good September in 2004 and never really got a chance to take Konerko's job. Hell, when you're pretty much a career minor leaguer, you are known for your perserverence so go out and have another decent September, be a good teammate and maybe you will have an increased role in '06 with the Sox (especially if we don't resign Kong) or another team. Couldn't have put it better myself.

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) The Score reported that it was a 6 yr deal worth 63 million. With incentives, it could reach up to 70 million. -
QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) before we got blum, konerko played like 2 months straight, he could have easily been up during that period. 1st base isn't the most demanding position...

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) I disagree. The most important hitter on the Sox is Jermaine Dye. When he's slumping, our offense sucks. When he's swinging the bat well, our offense looks much better. I disagree. The team was doing very well to start of the season, and that was during the period the many on the board had unofficially anointed him "dead."

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) Actually with the very high price of health insurance, and in my case the difficulties in acquiring a personal policy (high risk pool), I was working for a company out of Dallas as well as working my business. Pressure washing is primarily an evening and weekend deal, when business are closed or at least slow (Walmart at 2:00am is amazing). IMHO, they somehow caught wind of my after hours (my words) activities, set me up, and adios. I knew something as up for the past few weeks. Changes in attitudes, changes in latitudes. Thankfully, I can laugh or I would go insane*. Now I can get back to reclaiming my spot as the #3 post count champ at Soxtalk. *used by permission. Sorry to hear that... But anyways, happy b-day!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Here is the logic of the pessimists. If the Sox lose the World Series on a fluke play or an umpire's call in extra innings of Game 7, they'll say ... "See, I told you they couldn't win it all." And they are happy they can say they were right. If the Sox win it all, they can say "I'll glad eat crow! How 'Bout Dem White Sox!!!!" And they are happy they won. Pretty f***ing pathetic. Wasn't sure If I could put it in those terms, but since a moderator said it... Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) You and the rest of this board can keep saying that, but it won't make it true. If you want to believe you're a better fan than me, I'll let you. Nope, I don't believe I'm a better anything than anyone else... I was just making an observation about the ultra-pessimistic Sox fans. -

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Here's how I see Milkman, fathom and whoever else preaches this attitude when they go to a game. Hand over ticket to get in park. Walk to the seat. Look at the field. Watch the first pitch and then say....This one's over!! They ain't won in 87 years so why should I think they're going to win this. Let's get outta here. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) Of course there's a chance. The Royals can win every game for the rest of the year. We can win the rest of the year. But, our record against playoff teams isn't good, and our pitching against those with good offense isn't good either. Add in playoff experience, and it doesn't look as good. It seriously sounds like you'd enjoy predicting failure more than having the team succeed in the playoffs...
