This was another one of those shows that lost my interest after about the first season...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) The point is anything can happen, I don't think any of us think the Sox are going to lose the division but stranger things have happened and nothing is over until it's over, imo. I completely understand that point. If it were any other team, I'd be saying the same thing. But since it's the team that I follow and support, it pains me to hear the pessimists, and I'm the pessimistic type myself. I just prefer to think positively. In my mind, we've already made the playoffs. That's just me, though. I keep thinking that if I will it, maybe it will actually come true this time. Everyone else is free to be as pessimistic or optimistic as they'd like. Besides, the odds are hugely in our favor. I refuse to think of the negative things that have a tiny chance of happening. I honestly think we can't blow this...

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Assuming the mediocre Indians play 6 over .500 (I think 28-22 is the very top of what they can do, but whatever), The Sox would have to lose 34 of their last 50 games. I can't think of a stretch the Sox have had in the past ten years (other than possibly august of 99) where they have been that bad over that many games. But...but...but...dodgers...60 years ago... :rolly

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Sorry guys, but the inconsistent Indians, Hunter-less and hitless Twins and terrible Tiggers are not good enough teams to win 40 of their last 50 games. It's not going to happen. Period. It's not over 'til it's over!

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Let's compare apples to apples, guys. Since divisional play began, what's the largest lead blown? In particular, since the three division format was introduced, what's the biggest lead blown? My point? Back in 1951 it was perfectly reasonable for an elite team like the Giants to overtake another team that had a helluva season, even though the Dodgers had a 13 game lead. There were only two leagues and no divisions. Oh yeah, and my other point is that again, if the Sox blow this I will eat a car. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! :rolly

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) the student that plays chief illiniwek goes to an actual reservation and learns the dance from them. still stupid? Yep. We don't need more proof that white people can't dance. -

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Someone posted this in another thread, and the Irish community could give two s***s about ND's little green dude. He isn't drinking heavily, beating up people and randomly pissing on blarney stones. He's not stereotypical at all. What Downey fails to realize here is that while some of the Indian mascots perform religious rituals, the ND leprechaun isn't doing anything. He's not praying in a church or eating the sacrement. He's holding up a sign that says "Let's Go Irish." But have you seen just how ridiculous he looks? I can see where you're going with the religious rituals idea, but that isn't really the case with most of the mascots that are being banned. I think it would be less of a problem if the mascots didn't do such ridiculous and idiotic antics. That dance that the illini mascot does is horrible. If using that type of mascot, at least do it a lot more respectfully. There's definitely a difference between that stupid dance and Chief Osceola throwing a flaming spear into the groud while riding a horse before FSU games, in my opinion. I'd rather see a representation of a noble warrior than a dancing idiot. The same can be said about that leprechaun. When do you ever see Irishmen doing pushups while being held up in the air or being tossed back and forth holding up a sign while being held by your legs? Not very honorable, in my opinion. -
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) See, I feel as though the White Sox fans are considered the "red-headed step-children" that Fisk has just had to deal with. On the excerpts I heard of his speech, what he said seemed sort of forced and half-hearted. I understand he is a new-englander, and it seems like he'll always be a Red Sox in his heart and treat the White Sox as his "second team" and the White Sox fans as his "second fans" I really don't like that treatment. I understand he had a falling out with Sox ownership that resulted in bad blood and sealed his entry into the hall-of-fame as a Red Sox, but it still makes me feel kind of bad. That can definitely be the case, and I've wondered that myself.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) I have always found the divide between pet animals and food animals and our industrial killing machines to be fascinating. Imagine the view of our society from the cows perspective. We breed them by jamming a hand way up there, with semen taken from a bull, then snatch away the calf so we can drink the milk. We load them into cattle trailers and bring them to feed yards where they are fed to produce the current best beef possible. Low fat? Well marbled? Not a problem, change the diet. Then they are lead to slaughter, moved along a conveyor, and fed to people who are outraged that a kitten suffered a similar end. And don't get the wrong idea, I too, was outraged that someone would do that to an animal. BTW, in Gale Sayers autobiography he talks about killing his family dog with a knife when the dog was too sick and they could not afford a vet. In the country, animals are put down all the time. Usually a gun shot to the head. One well placed blow, would have been equal to the fate cows have. Any vegetarian besides ChiSoxy around? Excellent points. It is definitely disturbing to hear about animal cruelty, but I also do not understand why the same sentiments aren't given towards the less cute and cuddly animals that also suffer animal cruelty. To me, they're all animals. I don't really sympathize for one type of animal over another. I should also add that I've never had any pets so that probably is a factor for me.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Well, that's the closest guess (the first part, not the mugger part). I was finished and preparing to, um, cleanse the situation, and the wallet fell out of my front pocket. Don't ask me why I kept it there but sometimes I do. Anyway, I don't usually let the pants fall completely to my ankles. That just seems preschoolish to me. The belt area was actually around my thighs, next to the bowl rim (you mean that's not normal?). I guess with the pocket somewhere near the bowl, me shifting my position, and the lining in pockets getting hung up, I was bound for tragedy. SFF Isn't that hook on the door for taking your pants off and hanging them up?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) I wasn't talking to you. You b**** and whine about everything White Sox no matter what, so I'm not even going to bother anymore. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) That was the best showing by Jenks over a 2 inning stretch. Well, not always. -

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) no, he's cute, loveable, teddy bearish jenksy Settle down, batgirl... -
The 2nd season was somewhat disappointing after that GREAT first one.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) yep, that illinois I is real offensive. Umm...I'm fairly sure the 'I' is safe, as would be the Nike-generated 'FSU' sign that Florida State uses. I think they would be referring to the Indian head displayed in your sig. It was interesting to read about it as an issue in Illinois while I was at FSU because it was never an issue in Florida. Permission was also granted from the Seminole tribe. Anyways, it's dumb that they're doing this. The 'PC' thing is getting ridiculous...

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) I've never done the one-night-stand thing. Thats the truth. Call me old fashioned but I think you should know a woman for more then 2 hours before you take em to bed with you. Pass that on if you have kids. I think I'll be able to make mine as God-fearing with an extremely guilty conscience as I am. Mistakes will be made, but let's teach 'em enough sense to not put themselves in that dangerous of a situation.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) Almost. Well, yeah. You can't be sure about anything really. But that was completely beside the point.
-
QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) I refer back to my earlier post. I sure as hell don't want one if she's gonna run off with 3 guys while drunk on vacation wasting my hard-earned money. That would mean I failed as a father, and I can almost assure you it wouldn't happen on my watch.
-
QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) Uh, redandwhite, if the BoSox were in the AL Central, they'd be 8 games behind the White Sox. So until the Red Sox win another 8 in a row coupled with an 8 game White Sox skid, my vote goes to the White Sox. Excellent post.

QUOTE(Li'l_Soxette @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Sox won..wooo hoo! Bout time they kicked the Blue Jays back to the hometown...and haha Not all of us say eh...just ask Steve..lol. Go Sox! Ps...glad to be around a good bunch of fans. Welcome.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) WTF? It was on already? DAMN THOSE AFTERNOON GAMES! THE TV GUIDE TRICKED ME! THE 7 PM GAME MUST BE A REPLAY!!! DAAAAAHHHH!!!! Well, at least they won ~_^

I never doubted. Maybe.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Marte worries me, but in no way is Viz better than him. Seriously. I question whether's he's actually watched vizcaino pitch for us this year.
-
I keep sayin' it... Iguchi is f***in' badass.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) Who else besides me has more faith in Vizcaino than Marte? I guess Vizcaino is one of those pitchers that you need to give a lot of work to in order for him to pitch well. Wow...
