QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) It truly amazes me how dumb their entry requirements are. I got around a 3.7-3.8 GPA in high school; however, I got a 23 on my ACT, because I took it while a Sox/Cubs game was going on (I couldn't concentrate one bit!), and didn't get in solely due to that ACT score. However, this black guy who was in the same graduating class of mine (NOT an athlete, fyi), gets a 3.0 GPA, 24 ACT, gets in JUST SO THEY CAN MEET SOME RACIAL QUOTA! It's about time for society to get rid of affirmative action, because these african americans of today never experienced theh oppression their parents and grandparents faced. Uhh...maybe your 23 had more to do with it than you think... That's not exactly a score that's gonna 'wow' many schools, regardless of the silly excuse. Sometimes you have to overcompensate just to even things out.

Lee rounded up in Brewers' herd

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) There was a question of work ethic with Carlos, at least from Kenny's point of view. It's been known that Carlos or Konerko had to go in order to free up the payroll to sign some guys this off-season. Konerko was a Kenny guy; Carlos was not. I also get the impression that Ozzie did not want him either... I don't know. -
Lee rounded up in Brewers' herd
SleepyWhiteSox replied to Yoda's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It's been said in other articles that the players that had to go were traded or let go. The implication was that they did not fit with the team philosophy and did not belong. Sort of an "if you're not with us, you're against us" idea. It's fairly obvious how that applies to maggs, but not as obvious with Lee. Was it just his not retaliating for the Burke incident? Is there more to it? -
Lots of shrugging going on... It's all MTV hype that suburban white kids are spending their allowance on. 50 piggy-backed off of eminem. eminem was hyped up for being white, and has basically been more about the hype than the actual product... I liken them to cubs "fans" who know nothing about baseball but crown the urinal because it's the "cool" and fashionable yuppy north-sider thing to do... Most mainstream rappers suck. eminem and 50 are horrible. You have to go below the mainstream, or maybe a Kanye West-type, to find the better talent...

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) What was the difference between super admin and admin? Same goes for super mod and mod. C'mon now... That's like asking what the difference between Superman and just plain "man" is...

I thought there would be more 773's... HOLLA

It's all speculation. Year after year, the so-called experts are wrong.

QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Cannot disagree with this viewpoint. Both sides should zip it, and move on. I know the papers need something to write about, but this whole thing has been beaten to death. I can disagree. Maggs seems to be talking about the Sox non-stop. If this is all Ozzie's gonna say, than it's fine by me that he made his statements. Now he can move on...

"My cleats are falling apart, but i'm waiting..." "we're all waiting!" What the f*** are they waiting for??? I hate that commercial. I didn't know what it was advertising the first few times...I had never heard of dick's sporting goods, but I'm never going there because of those damn commercials...

The hustle part was meant for Eddy... I'm sorry, guys. Sometimes what I'm seeing from Tyson is misguided hustle, but I do give him credit for playing hard. He just looks so awkward when he gets the ball... I'm a Bulls fan and I like both of those guys, but to me, they're still huge disappointments. You don't trade a former number one to for a 2nd pick that can't score. He just looks so awkward, as I stated above, when he gets the ball within the offense...Learning ONE post move isn't too much to ask for. It's a necessity if you want to start in the NBA. Don't give me the Rodman argument 'cause there's no Jordan averaging 30 or Pippen averaging 20 on this team...And as much as I wasn't a fan of Rodman, he knew the game well and did a lot more of the little things that you guys want to say Tyson does, and he did it better. And YES, he does make simple mental mistakes, although Eddy is a lot worse. YES, the ball seems to slip through his hands sometimes. You have to admit his hands aren't great. I'm watching the games and calling it as I see it... There's still a long way to go, but I'm liking the improvements. My only fear is...is this the best the 2 of them can do? Have they reached their peak? Will Eddy ever rebound and play defense? Is Tyson going to get any better?...I want them to keep improving... Let's not forget this is a contract year.

You're so screwed...I'm googling your name right now...Yep, there's the home address... Kidding. Awesome job. It's a many a sports fan's dream job, no matter where you start...

He's definitely earning his playing time with his hustle and smart decisions...both things that I wanna see from Eddy and Tyson... Once Ben learns how to play D, Duhon will be a solid back-up for Hinrich and his scary shooting %...

I watched it too and did find it as a bit of a diss that we weren't even mentioned when they quickly spoke about the ALC, while they were still able to throw in an indians mention...Chicago is the third biggest city in the U.S... And as far as not knowing the name, it was certainly a diss when you consider it's only been changed once... Can't you just say Comiskey and move on?

Tyson would be such a force if he knew how to score... He'd be getting his minutes and putting Kirilenko's, and Big Ben's, to a lesser extect, blocks average to shame... Is he not learning anything from the vets? I thought that's what we're paying Antonio Davis for...
-
Othella!!! I'm really liking how he plays. I never thought I'd ever say that... He's not the most talented, but he plays aggressively and makes smart decisions... Unlike Tyson who plays hard but doesn't live up to his potential and doesn't make the smartest decisions (That airball inside the free throw line with about 1:40 left?). Or Curry who does none of the above... Ben is gonna be a star once he learns how to play D. I'd liken him to a guy from tonight, Arenas, but I don't even wanna think of all the ways that can be shot down...

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) I didn't read this full article so I don't know if they touched on it, but awhile back when this first went on Ebay someone noted that there's some legal thing with the Fleet Center where it could only be renamed a certain number of times. I guess paperwork had been processed for a name prior to Fleet buying the rights, so that, plus Fleet, plus this auction would be the limit. Making it a permanent name. I doubt it'd stick, but it's what got NY people bidding. They're auctioning it off for a bunch of dates. Like 5, I think. I saw goldenpalace.com has one coming up...

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) We had Channel 1 also. Never really liked it that much. They did have one or two hot anchors though. You guys got to see channel 1 at school??? DAMN I wish I could watch the spice channel when I was in high school...

There also have been many cases in which these things turn out not to be true. When delving deep into the psyche, untrue "memories" can be brought about, mostly because a psychologist will unknowingly (or possibly knowingly) lead a patient in that direction. Certain events will be misinterpreted as molestation, and outside knowledge of such occurences can cause a person to add things to the events that aren't true. The recovered memories are essentially being manufactured. It's really tough when dealing with childhood memories. This is just a phenomenon I did a little bit of research on a while back. I'm currently studying psychology, so it interested me. Of course, I have no idea if this is the case for this situation. I just wanted to share that bit of information.

Temple's Chaney should be fired...

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) While i do not think artest should have been suspended nearly as long he did jump into the stands. Which is a big difference. There's also a huge difference between 3 games and 70. That was my point. -
Temple's Chaney should be fired...
SleepyWhiteSox replied to Goldmember's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Something more severe than 3 games is necessary... It was just so blatant. The clear intention was to hurt somebody, and that has no place in sports, especially college where you're supposed to be somewhat of a teacher and mentor. It's called good "sportmanship." Sending out someone who hardly plays to do that and almost bragging about it afterwards...Maybe not bragging, but he certainly didn't seem remorseful until after the media picked it up... The kid got his arm broken, for goodness sake... Look at it this way: Artest didn't break any bones but got suspended about 70 games. Three games doesn't do any justice. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) Hey, if you say so. They're all trying they're bestest to play some D, but Tyson has what it takes to be an NBA first team defender. You don't agree? That's fine. An MVP is a team's most valuable player. In the case of the Pistons, it's Ben Wallace (although you probably think it's Rip or somebody ) In our case, it's Tyson Chandler. Warped sense of what an MVP is? In the commercial sense, sure. It's one of those completely retarded concepts like pitchers not being considered for MVP awards in baseball, but whatever. You said it yourself..."Tyson has what it takes to be an NBA first team defender". He hasn't even reached his potential... I agree, and I like Tyson's aggresiveness. But there's no one player on the team that stand head and shoulders above the rest, and my humble opinion is that the play of Kirk, Deng, or Ben is more important. -
