  1. Wow, and all this just because the kids wanted to name a toy bear after a legendary boxer...
  2. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) Summer Sanders blows them all out of the water I still watch Figure It Out reruns. And I thought Ann Werner was cute...
  3. Too late as they go by quick, but thanks for the heads up. I always appreciate someone sharing a good deal.
  4. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 12:49 AM) Jeez, Butler is such a garbage program. Don't actually have to have basketball talent to play there. Just jack up 30 3's from the short 3 point line and can win most games. I would actually root for Duke over Butler. What Butler does isn't basketball, it's just horses***.
  5. A pair of jeans, brown dress shoes, and a couple of DVDs
  6. Bulls are horrid. I'm tempted to not watch them unless they trade for Kobe.
  7. DePaul barely beat northwestern. I need the headshake smiley back.
  8. They re-ran that elite 24 at the rucker thing on espnu, but I only caught the 4th quarter. It was from months ago. And just as I suspected, it was all about the guards putting on a show, as most all-star games are. Some nice players though...
  9. Too bad hamilton doesn't know what to do with the talent.
  10. Something I found kinda interesting from today's Tribune in an article about DePaul recruit Jeremiah Kelly: Also of note is that he's at the same school as Tyreke Evans now.
  11. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Yes, Riek is terrible. He would be better off not stepping onto a basketball court again until the draft and hope he gets taken for his potential. I've seen two games now from him where he was standing under the basket with his 7'2 frame and still couldn't muster up enough athleticism to dunk the ball and missed the layup several times. He has nothing in the way of an offensive game, and blocks several shots just standing on the ground because of his again 7'2 frame. I don't even know if I could call him a poor man's Hasheem Thabeet. I've been hearing about John Riek Suas for a while now since DePaul was in on him very early along with his other Sudanese teammates at OSNA in New York, Teeng Akol and Leek Leek. John Riek and Teeng have since transferred to other prep schools. Coach Wainwright sure does like going for foreign kids now... Anyways, John Riek just blew up practically out of nowhere in one camp, so that's where the hype started. It's very probable that he shot up way too high in the rankings, but he does have some defensive post presence with his legit 7'2 size, which doesn't show very well in those all-star games. He's extremely raw from what I've seen, and he's a foreign kid who has not been here long nor has played much organized ball. The ranking is clearly based on potential because of his size, which, as they say, you can't teach. But yeah, he does look very offensively-inept, and kinda slow and just rumbles along. I agree with you on that, from what I've seen. Still too early to tell for me though. There's always value in a legit 7'2 young guy who shows potential in rebounding and blocking shots. And I did not know that showcase game was gonna be televised. Much appreciated if someone posts if and when they show something like that again on TV.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) Did you read the book? You're probably trying to tell me that the movie was more faithful to the book than Gene Wilder, but I could have done without jack sparrow as Willy Wonka. It looked and felt ridiculous so I only got through about half an hour of it. And yeah, I read the book, when I was a lot younger, although I didn't read the second one. Neither movie was how I envisioned it though.
  13. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) Good ole Rivals basketball rankings. John Riek #5 player in the nation. Just awesome stuff. He may not even step on a college campus.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) The more recent adaptation, with Mr. Depp, was quite good. Wow...
  15. Good site showing those black friday sales?
  16. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) whos DSL?
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) I think it depends on which 5 pros you'd be playing against. Does anyone remember the IIT summer basketball tournament? It was basically pick up games which included the top local HS, College and pro players. Brad Sellers (remember his soft, sorry ass?) got dunked on, not once but twice by two different HS kids in one game. I also saw a HS kid block one of Jordan's lay ups and I mean cleanly pinned it to the glass. So, I tend to think it's possible. But did a team of high-schoolers beat the pros? That's kinda the little argument going on here. The argument isn't "can you compete against a WNBA team?" He's basically saying that he is absolutely positive that him and his group of friends would beat a WNBA team, and it's very easy to doubt that. When I was at FSU, about 4 girls from the girls' team lived in my dorm, so I got to know them pretty well. One of them was dating a football player, and I heard about a time when her and a couple of teammates played a pick-up game against three football players. The football players did win. That's why I'm glad someone asked what sports and at what levels this kid and his friends have played, because those FSU guys were freakish athletes, a couple of whom did also play basketball in high school, and capable of beating very good female basketball players. Yes, it's possible that a group of kids who played a little bit of high school sports, none of which was basketball, and didn't go much further can beat a top WNBA team in basketball, but I don't think it's probable. Sounds more like bravado to me.
  18. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Terrific 2nd half by CU to win that. But I'm sitting here wondering, what is DePaul thinking going to Creighton to play their first game of the season? I wouldn't care if you're the number one team in the country, you don't do that. Yeah, it was a terrible idea from the start. Most of us fans were against it because of how terribly we've started each year under wainwright losing to bradley and because we're so young this year. I think part of the problem is the circus, but still not the type of team we should start off with. Well, at least our black uniforms looked nice.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) Offer a horrid start by CU where they were down 15 or 17 at one point, they end up coming back and winning by a dozen. The 2nd half was all Stinnett, unbelievable performance by him in his first college game. Just a typical DePaul game. Came out looking good, at one point with a 17-point lead in the first half, but then wainwright forgot to mention that they would press and move the ball around to shoot the 3. We had around 30 turnovers, which sealed our fate. More of the same under wainwright. We had the better talent, evidently clear as the bigs overwhelmed them inside, but they had the superior coaching, much more poise, and home crowd pumping them up. Bad scheduling once again even after wainwright had vowed not to start another year against this type of team after the same thing happened last year losing to bradley on the road. I honestly expected a loss as we always start unprepared under wainwright and we have so many first-year players, but what kills me the most was the first-half tease. Mac had some nice moves at least. Dar tried to do too much. Hopefully my De La Salle Meteors won't be as disappointing tommorrow.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) (Some) people are calling Tucker the next Wade. Is he the five star that Wainright (sp) pulled in? Well, we only played one exhibition game, but a couple of people that saw him said he was very exciting and impressive, with the potential to be the most exciting guard we've had since maybe Rod Strickland. I myself did not go and have only seen one game of his on-line (Michigan state playoff game which I believe went to overtime) along with the usual highlight packages. Obviously not a current Wade at this very moment, but maybe the potential is there. I'm holding off on any high expectations until I see the team play a few games. One similarity I would see is that both probably drive to the basket better than they shoot. I'll go with a very poor man's Wade for now. Oh, and as far as rankings, both Mac and Dar were generally top 50 with Mac being ranked higher. Too bad with that mbakwe kid, and your new uniforms look pretty bad. I like the idea as I'm a fan of throwbacks, but not the execution. Should have at least gone with a more traditional cut and not that nike system of dress crappy cut (with nike owning converse). With your back-court, you guys will be just fine.
