Official 2007-08 College Basketball Thread

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) Offer a horrid start by CU where they were down 15 or 17 at one point, they end up coming back and winning by a dozen. The 2nd half was all Stinnett, unbelievable performance by him in his first college game. Just a typical DePaul game. Came out looking good, at one point with a 17-point lead in the first half, but then wainwright forgot to mention that they would press and move the ball around to shoot the 3. We had around 30 turnovers, which sealed our fate. More of the same under wainwright. We had the better talent, evidently clear as the bigs overwhelmed them inside, but they had the superior coaching, much more poise, and home crowd pumping them up. Bad scheduling once again even after wainwright had vowed not to start another year against this type of team after the same thing happened last year losing to bradley on the road. I honestly expected a loss as we always start unprepared under wainwright and we have so many first-year players, but what kills me the most was the first-half tease. Mac had some nice moves at least. Dar tried to do too much. Hopefully my De La Salle Meteors won't be as disappointing tommorrow. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) (Some) people are calling Tucker the next Wade. Is he the five star that Wainright (sp) pulled in? Well, we only played one exhibition game, but a couple of people that saw him said he was very exciting and impressive, with the potential to be the most exciting guard we've had since maybe Rod Strickland. I myself did not go and have only seen one game of his on-line (Michigan state playoff game which I believe went to overtime) along with the usual highlight packages. Obviously not a current Wade at this very moment, but maybe the potential is there. I'm holding off on any high expectations until I see the team play a few games. One similarity I would see is that both probably drive to the basket better than they shoot. I'll go with a very poor man's Wade for now. Oh, and as far as rankings, both Mac and Dar were generally top 50 with Mac being ranked higher. Too bad with that mbakwe kid, and your new uniforms look pretty bad. I like the idea as I'm a fan of throwbacks, but not the execution. Should have at least gone with a more traditional cut and not that nike system of dress crappy cut (with nike owning converse). With your back-court, you guys will be just fine. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) Very interesting game in Omaha tonight, Depaul-Creighton. Both teams are very young but also very talented, should be a fun game. If you have CLTV, tune in at 7. I'm not familiar with their young players, just that they have 6 freshman and 3 transfers. Maybe an MVC fan is more familiar with them. Must be good as they're favored by 3 in Vegas. As for us, I'm very excited to see our new guys, with Dar Tucker and Mac Koshwal in particular. Coach Wainwright has not named a starting 5, only that Draelon Burns will be in there for sure, but Mac is a captain and I'm sure should be starting. Dar might be also. I'm worried about both another very slow start under Wainwright and the opponent we're opening with but am very excited to see what we have and how the new guys respond. -
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) My God I hate watching the Hawks play. I force myself to when I watch Marvin play, but it's disgusting. It's like watching an un-organized AAU team, which is really saying something. This is true. I've caught a couple of their games myself. They have soo much talent on that team, but it seems like absolutely zero coaching is going on. I still haven't looked up who their coach is because I was meaning to after watching how they basically just played like they were in the playground and relied on their talent that first game.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) but I could definitely see 22-12-2 on that team with regularity. With what's around him, it's certainly set up that way, but we shall see...

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) slow-footed mediocre point guard Well, now you're just underrating him... I'd be a little sad to see him go too as he won me over throughout the years, but for Kobe you do it without hesitation.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Marvin is ready to breakout this year at 21 years old. He was at 13 ppg and 5 rpg last year, and should up those to closer to 17-18 ppg and 7 rpg. He was great in preseason, game has matured. Same break-out talk as last year. We shall see...

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) You think Chris Paul is better than Deron Williams after last years playoffs? You must think austin croshere is a superstar... I don't base things on a few playoff games. He had a breakout year and a very nice playoff run, but Paul had an injury-plagued season and has shown flashes of something more. Both are very good PGs and the future at the position. I know you're a huge illinois homer, but to say he's clearly superior at this point is very much a stretch.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) as good as CP3 is, but Deron is the superior player.

Couple of notes nobody probably cares to hear about but me... DePaul opener @ creighton will be shown on CLTV, Nov. 9th. NOT the opponent I want to open up with since we've started very slow under Coach Wainwright and we're young this year, but I'm still excited for the college hoops season to begin. Also, Mac Koshwal is the first freshman to be named a captain in DePaul history. Can't wait to see all the new guys play. -
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) Nothing. His answers to every question were: "Don't know" or "Maybe." Oh, but he'll be generous enough to answer some softball questions from fans on foxsports.com. It was absolutely hilarious. When he gave the quick, monotone "Don't know" it literally made me chuckle. "Not sure" Then he said he answers questions on some sort of blog because he does want the fans to be in the know. I can respect that.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 01:15 AM) Don't know if Skiles would allow for Nocioni to be traded either. Can't for a while anyways, but I'm not a fan of his contract. I don't think a lot of people who have grown fond of guys like Gordon and Tyrus realize just how much we need and how much better the Bulls can be with a go-to superstar of Kobe's caliber and how much they overvalue the Bulls' depth. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) My guess is, Kobe to the Bulls for Gordon, Thomas and Noah plus a future 1st. So how would this work money-wise?? Personally, I'm all for trading any and all of Gordon, Tyrus, Noah, Noc, Griffin, and however many first- and second-rounders can reasonably be traded to get Kobe. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:25 AM) It hurts the depth at forward immensely Pick up a guy like Juwan Howard. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) Either way, he needs to get his ass into gear, or he will end up more like Cleveland Cavliers Shawn Kemp versus Seattle Supersonics Shawn Kemp. I think he was the cavs' first All-Star starter ever. But yeah, I know what you're saying and agree with it.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) Alright, I pushed back the draft to Saturday night at 9:30 central. That's the last decent time, so if it doesn't fill up I'll end up deleting it. Good because I was planning on going to see my old high school, De La Salle, play tonight. I'd be fine with at least 8. Did you post the info on talkbulls? C'mon dbaho and hammer and any of the other NBA fans. Yeah, I'm calling you out. Where you at anyways, ranger?
